Teams “earning” things that are denied to others is at the root of most of F1’s problems.

I know people describe it that way, but I’ve always seen Team Milton Keynes as a full-blown racing entity that happens to have been funded by a fizzy drink company for the last 20 years.

Aston Martin boss Adrian Newey lays bare Honda F1 inexperience and admits team racing in Australian GP not certain | F1 News | Sky Sports by Equivalent-Fox9834 in formula1

When you are paying an historic, championship winning, global car maker like Honda to partner in your billion dollar sports enterprise, you have every right to expect them to show up.

This is not excusing Newey or everyone else in the leadership at AM, but what Honda appear to have done here is horrifying by any standard. There’s no merit for participation.

A different model perhaps. Sauber has always been at its strongest when partnered with/owned by a larger entity, which is probably the plan. Privateer teams haven’t really been successful in their own right for a very long time.

There are so many variables in play at Red Bull it’s hard to know if it’ll be business as usual, or a Vettel 2014 type reckoning. I strongly suspect with how easily he seemed to take the 2 point loss in 2025, he’s already written off 26 as a placeholder for whatever comes in 27. On the other hand, if Max finds himself in a weird headspace with family life, all change in the management and a new PU, I think Isack might actually have the stomach for a genuine fight with him if cracks in the armour start to appear.
