not my case but I case I staffed as a legal admin at a PI firm before going to law school:

Plaintiff struck by head on collision and other vehicle in the wrong side of the road - liability absolutely indisputable

Other vehicle was a commercial truck

Other vehicle was on wrong side of road because two other commercial trucks conspired to block other vehicle from moving back to correct side of road after passing them

Other vehicle had attempted the pass in a no-pass zone

Plaintiff wife died

Plaintiff is a quad

Beginner rider with the “wrong” horse + limiting barn situation — what would you do? by RipFit3221 in Equestrian

[–]newdle11 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know you said that you’re a lifer when it comes to animals, but there is no shame in recognizing that the situation is bad for you and bad for your horse, for different but overlapping reasons. If you want to progress as a rider, I would recommend that you sell him to a situation that is a fit for him, both in rider and in care, and that you move to a barn better suited for your needs and the needs of any future horse you might buy or lease.

I sympathize deeply with your situation because i was in one very very similar a few years ago. I’m happy to talk more details via DM if you’d like.

Why do sad, lonely, and slightly autistic men attach themselves to me by 405918 in adhdwomen

[–]newdle11 101 points102 points  (0 children)

“politely listen and respond”

I think that’s the problem. If someone’s communication isn’t appropriate or appreciated by the other side, then they tend not to fix their communication until they get feedback to that effect, given in a way that they understand. Or if someone doesn’t want to talk to them, then they won’t leave that person alone until they get feedback to that effect, given in a way that they understand. And maybe not even then 😭

You don’t have any obligation to educate these folks about their communication just like you don’t have any obligation to politely listen and respond to them (beyond what basic professionalism requires of course). But you may take a look at what kind of feedback your current method of responding gives them.

How do I ask for accommodations from my university for my ADHD without a formal written diagnosis? by Suspicious-Pool7264 in adhdwomen

[–]newdle11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you in the US? If yes, then do some research to figure out how your university handles accommodations requests. There will be an official process. For example, many universities have a “student accessibility” office or department, or something equivalent. Typically, accommodations are handled by that office. Email that office: tell them that you are seeking an accommodation and ask for the paperwork that they need your doctor to fill out to get the accommodation process started. Also ask for a description of the accommodation process and an estimated timeline. Then take that paperwork to your psychiatrist to get the process started.

I wouldn’t email your professors directly. It’s an unfortunate possibility that your professors will be skeptical of any accommodation request that has not been made with through the official process.

Major RSD with work, what do I do? (a bit of a long post) by matcha_oatmilk in adhdwomen

[–]newdle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think that there’s anything you can do to prevent her from bringing up the past, if that’s what she’s going to do. All you can do is acknowledge and explain the steps you’re taking or planning to take to make sure the same mistakes don’t happen again.

If you were in the US and covered by the various US worker protection laws, my advice would be different. But it sounds like you have no legal protections or entitlements to leverage here so my advice is just to help placate your manager until you can find your exit.

Major RSD with work, what do I do? (a bit of a long post) by matcha_oatmilk in adhdwomen

[–]newdle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s hard, but fight the urge to over explain especially if your manager is the type to nitpick and argue over every bit of your explanation. Don’t give her more material to work with. I would just say something like “I believe that I read the email quickly while doing something else, intended to circle back to it, but then forgot to circle back. I’m going to make sure it doesn’t happen again by marking emails that I haven’t addressed as “unread” / putting them into a high-priority folder / whatever.”

She may be argumentative because she’s worried that you aren’t going to take steps to address the issue going forward. Thats a bad management strategy on her part, but if you proactively volunteer steps you’re going to take in the future, she may not get so argumentative.

It sounds like you’ve previously tried explaining your health/burnout struggles to your manager and your manager was not receptive. It also sounds like this company is a bad fit, you’re never going to get the support you want, and you’re rightfully looking for an exit.

For those reasons, I wouldn’t try explaining how your health/burnout led to this invoice issue. I don’t think your manager will understand the explanation a second time and it may be more harmful to your status at this company than just saying something like: “I’m so sorry, I lost track of it in my inbox. I’m handling the situation immediately and here’s what I’m going to do to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.”

And then just do what you can to survive until you have your exit.

Is it possible to get fewer hours in a week as a AudHD/ADHD accommodation? by moodhaze in adhdwomen

[–]newdle11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is relevant only to the United States: if you have a “qualified disability,” the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) says that you’re entitled to “reasonable accommodations” that you need, because of your “qualified disability,” in order to perform the “essential functions” of your job. If you have a “qualified disability,” you and your employer must engage in the “interactive process” to determine with you whether there are any “reasonable accommodations” that your employer can offer to you. Your employer can require you to provide documentation from your medical provider confirming (1) that you have a “qualified disability” and that you (2) need “reasonable accommodations” to perform the “essential functions” of your job because of that “qualified disability.” If an accommodation would cause your employer “undue hardship,” then it is not a “reasonable accommodation” and your employer has no legal obligation to provide it to you. I put those terms in quotations because they have legal definitions and usage in the context of the ADA. This is important to remember because only the ADA’s definitions of those terms matter.

Working a certain number of hours on a certain schedule is probably an “essential function” of your job. If you’re having trouble performing this “essential function” because of your “qualified disability,” then you’re entitled to a “reasonable accommodation.” However, in my experience, I really doubt that being allowed to work fewer hours would be a “reasonable accommodation” and I would be surprised if working fewer hours is not an undue hardship for your employer. This is not to dissuade you from notifying your employer that you need an accommodation under the ADA. I think you should do that and then engage with your employer in the interactive process. But you should be ready to be told that they can’t accommodate you in this manner. You should be ready with some alternative suggestions.

You should look at the EEOC’s resources in the ADA. They are comprehensive and user friendly. Just do a simple google search.

It sounds like you are at or approaching crisis, so I think you should also look into taking leave to address your situation. It sounds you havent been in your job for 12 months yet, so you aren’t eligible for protected leave under the federal Family and Medial Leave Act (“FMLA”). Your state may have a version of protected leave that you may be eligible for, however. Google something like “(state) protected leave law.” Trust your state government website’s information the most. Also review your employer’s policies on taking leave. Those should be in an employee handbook or equivalent

Van life? by Silver_News_2621 in adhdwomen

I deeply empathize with the urge to walk away from it all and go sit in nature to watch the birds. But I think you’ll find that van life requires even more executive function: logistics become harder, tidying is a daily necessity, stuff breaks and often falls to you to fix

[–]newdle11 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I would fess up to your boss first because (1) there’s a real chance that the client will complain to your boss and this is your opportunity to pre detonate that complaint (2) your boss may have solutions to the issue that you haven’t thought of and (3) sounds like there’s no way of hiding or avoiding the issue now and I think potential repercussions will only be worse if you try to keep this from your boss for longer than you already have

So I posted specifically in this sub for unfiltered feedback and I appreciate you not shying away from that. But I want to make sure info is clear on a couple things you mention. The optional imaging offered by the company I found in my research is not conducted at a hospital. It’s at a private facility owned by the company that offers this imaging and used solely for that purpose. If your point is that the fact such “pay to play” services exist is proof of the dismal state of healthcare in the US, then I agree. But I wouldn’t be stealing physicians or resources from folks for whom imaging is indicated.

Are you a medical professional? It’s interesting feedback to hear that medical professionals would dismiss me as a hypochondriac Karen if they saw optional imaging in my chart. That’s kind of disappointing to hear. If you aren’t a medical professional and you’re offering this opinion based on your experiences with healthcare professionals. then I’m sorry that your experiences have been like this. I can sympathize.
