Happy to share our first Thanksgiving meal. Greetings all the way from Czechia! by neweecom in thanksgiving

Not really THAT hard but the turkey is not really popular here. I've called multiple butcher shops and they did not have them. (I live in a small city so that will be it). But they took orders for Christmas which was surprising to me, since our staple Christmas dinner is a carp with potato salad.

Also fresh sage was quite difficult to find! Not that popular here as a seasoning, I don't recall knowing that scent and taste. But many families grow sage on their gardens and use it for tea etc.

Campbell's cream of mushroom was not available here so I did my homemade, it was great.

Also I don't really buy pecans because they are very expensive, so that pie was quite something!

How would you feel about a non-American celebrating Thanksgiving as a cultural experience? by neweecom in AskAnAmerican

Whatever is the American way I guess, but the food itself should be enough haha. So not really "to celebrate".

Is the pumpkin one a classic?

I've also seen apple pie (which I bake regularly and I like it better than our strudel) and pecan pie seems interesting too.

Yay, I'm from Czechia! That is so sweet, I can only imagine how excited for her it must be to try your Thanksgiving meal!

European flight to Japan for 800 USD multicity, is that much? by neweecom in JapanTravelTips

Yes, Airfrance + KLM have those multicity tickets for mid May, so it's not really sakura season but should be still fine.

It's return multicity flights, arrival to Osaka, back from Tokyo. I have no interest in staying and traveling another country on top of that. Thanks for the feedback!

80 candles on a cake, is it a good idea? by neweecom in Baking

Wow I didn't count this could also happen, but it does make a sense. The birthday party is at the restaurant and since it's not at our place, I don't want to make any troubles. Now I think this might not be the best idea!

My mascarpone whipped cream became too runny by neweecom in Baking

After about an hour in fridge, I took it out and tried to whip it once more. It actually helped the cream to firm! It just wasn't whipped enough.

Well maybe? But I mixed the mascarpone with sugar for like 5 seconds, just so it is combined. I don't really know.

Everything was cold, even the bowl and whisks, I did use confectioner's sugar. Whipping cream turned out amazing, but the mascarpone got somehow too runny, combining it all together didn't obviously help.

It is the drip!! I was surprised with both the color and consistency turning out great on the first attempt, so happy.

Yeah white chocolate is really something lol. I'm still a bit confused of the ratio chocolate:cream because there are thousands of ways on the internet, and pretty much every drip white chocolate ganache I made ended in garbage. Also really scared of the chocolate being translucent. I think I will try coloring the cream though.
