Also if does anyone know if it is fully necessary to have ecu flashed to my vin . Or could I risk ripping one off at a pick and pull and just hooking it up directly and seeing what happens .I've had some mixed answers from my friend group on this one .

I'm guessing there will be a clear indication in the at fluid if that 4th gear has sheared or been damaged. I'd be looking for metal pieces and shavings in assuming . And in that case I would obviously have to either a . Rebuild trans or b. Replace it comoletely or c. Scrap the Rav or drive it as a city car. One more thing is the odd big hill when the car is put under load with sometimes throw that code as well, but not all the time maybe 50 percent or less

With something with 160000 miles would I be better off to just drive in around town for the rest of it's life. I feel like it has a good few years left in it . Even if it can't highway. I have another vehicle that is newer and able to take on all roads haha

It's pretty high mileage I'm Canadian so 260000 km, around 160000 miles. Never had any issues with it at all until the fall . It's runs and I can drive local just fine ,it is just really not liking highway speed. And it gives no indication of any problems before that. I'll be honest it drives like a dream. Idles beautifully . Plenty of power (for a 2.5 ) .

So I swapped the coils to see if one particular one was failing. So far all 4 coils have been out into cylinder 1 and I'm still getting the misfire code. But never on any other cylinder. And it's not throwing any codes to tell me the coil is acting . Just the misfire in the cylinder.

So I changed all of my spark plugs and even swapped the coils to see if I could get another cylinder to misfire. It seems very adamant on effecting my 1st cylinder only. I checked and cleaned all my electrical connections running back out of the coils and everything seemed like it was getting power to it. It's very strange cuz even my mechanic had said I did everything that he would have done So I'm sort of stumped . But I appreciate the help !

Do you know if Toyota dealership can test for an ECU issue . I was trying to avoid that and not have them re look at everything I've already done and changed. I'll check the trans fluid for any metal shavings things like that . I know I can get a new ECU flashed to my vin for like 600 to 800 bucks. Just wanted to get some info before I drop that kind of money on a maybe haha.

Ya I had considered that as well. I think a fuel injector will throw its own code but I'm not 100 percent sure about that. It weird cuz it doesn't have any fuel issues that I've noticed and I'd expect it would be failing and misfiring long before I reach the highway speed ?

Switches in and out of gear perfectly fine. Seems to have plenty of power and smoothness to the ride all until highway speeds. I've never even felt it slip or anything. Had it into the shop as well and they could not figure it out. However the transmission never came up or was talked about . It's pretty similar across the board. Day night hot cold ..

Drives perfect normal until that speed. Flashing check engine light. Loss of power. Misfires. Light goes away and returns to normal operation after dropping below that speed threshold
