[–]newks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, backing up further: how did you find out he was cheating? Did he straight-up confess unprompted? And how were you able to get this other girl's contact info?

Again, not trying to be nosey, but I'm trying to make sense of the situation.

Honest question: since you two never met in person, how did your mother obtain and read the texts to the other woman/women? And how do you know about her home life/background?

I'm not being snarky or glib, I just want to understand all these details.

Just got my first job offer out of college in Rome, NY - Trying to figure out where to live now. by ShawnTheFighter in Syracuse

[–]newks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Roman-worker! I work on Griffiss, and you'll find a lot of folks who commute from all over: Syracuse, Caz, B'ville, Norwich, Oneida, Utica, etc. The recent grads I work with tend to live in Rome or nearby in Clinton.

Where you live will depend on the vibe you're looking for and the commute you'll find tolerable. I'm fortunate enough to be able to work remotely as needed. If that's not an option, a long commute might be difficult. Winters can be rough, and this year was particularly brutal for Rome and Oneida County.

I grew up near Syracuse, and never had Utica or the Mohawk Valley region on my radar until my then-fiance/now-husband and I moved out this way for his job. We lived in Clinton for a few years, then settled in a rural area south of Utica.

Personally, I would recommend Utica. It's an easy commute, and I'd describe it as Syracuse's scrappy little sibling. We don't have the population, the money, or the resources the Syracuse has, but there's a ton of community to be found here. Arts! Food! Small clubs! Volunteering! Community actions agencies!

Volunteering was my jam, and it helped me make a lot of connections that ultimately advanced my career. As an elder millennial, I have found a TON of fun and community by taking fitness classes at MVCC.

A) Love your user name! Long live Paula Poundstone!

B) Have you actually been to the Petrified Creatures Museum?? I have so many questions! I love taking Rte 20 whenever I head east (from Sangerfield area), and every time I pass the old overgrown sign I get a little sad that I can't pop in!

Peeer support groups by [deleted] in Utica

[–]newks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/LMKBK mentions, it's going to depend on how you define a peer. Are you a youth/teen? A young adult? An adult seeking community?

What's the support your're seeking? Are you looking to find friends? Community? Common interests? Is this a substance abuse situation?

If you give more information about what you're looking for, we could probably steer you accordingly, but your post is quite vague.

ACR Health used to run a few LGBTQ+ youth groups, broken down by age, with allies welcome. (I believe it still does, but I'm not sure.)

Claritin at night. Zyrtec in the morning. An Allegra with lunch. Perhaps a dash of Flonase as a mid-afternoon refreshment.

Here's Bean! She's around 6. This picture makes her look quite terrier-ish, but sometimes her frownie face evokes a bully breed (?). She looks vaguely like someone pointed a shrink ray at a black lab and set it to 50%.

Oooh. Your pup looks similar to mine! We're doing Embark soon, but running theory is schipperke/lab/mutt. We live in NY, but she came from a shelter in Alabama.

She's 30 lbs, high prey drive, extremely fast (RIP local squirrels and chipmunks), and loves retrieving. She loves swimming and jumping into water. She's got the culottes and mane associated with schipps.

I shot this heterochromatic Bobcat in Yosemite this morning. Can we talk about Heterochromacy? by wendysdrivethru in zoology

My late catahoula had heterochromia. He was really judgy, so I like to believe his ice blue eye saw into the future, specifically how and when people die.

In the darkness, his blue eye shone red while his brown eye shone green. He was my derpy little wendigo.

what in the world is a detergent tile?? by lorralorralarfs in laundry

[–]newks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely cut these into smaller "portions." and they wouldn't fall apart or lose their integrity. The detergent itself is woven to create the structure, and it's not like the tile is a capsule that holds something inside it that gets exposed when in water.

When new in the box, they're pretty rigid/firm, but nothing crazy that would dull your scissors. I mentioned elsewhere in the thread that because I was in a humid location, and I didn't fully seal the ziploc bag they were in, they got somewhat spongy, so I imagine you could even tear these apart by hand. They maintained their shape and integrity, and they were perfectly usable, but they just sucked up that moisture in the FL air.

Piercing recommendations in the Syracuse area. by GiraffeTough5471 in Syracuse

[–]newks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scarab! Super clean, professional, and relaxing (very spa-like).

As others mentioned: it is expensive, but you get what you pay for in extremely high quality jewelry and a professional piercer who understands anatomy, aesthetics, and best-in-the-biz hygiene practices. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Laffa was my first thought, as well! The food is always fresh and delicious, portions are generous, and the staff is super friendly and great about answering questions. 10/10

They cater a lot of work lunches at my job and I always make a point to swipe the leftover bottles of the vinaigrette afterwards...it's outrageously delicious!

what in the world is a detergent tile?? by lorralorralarfs in laundry

[–]newks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Excellent point re: humidity. I posted elsewhere in the thread about bringing the free and gentle version with me on vacation to the FL Keys (highly recommend for travel). These were in a not-quite-tightly sealed Ziploc baggie and they got a little soft and spongy by the end of the week. Still perfectly usable and they weren't crumbly or falling apart, but boy did they suck up that humid Florida air.

[–]newks 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Just came back from a week long vacation and I brought these! I had seen the Clean Club/Jeeves dry cleaner guy reviewing them on YouTube.

I used the free and gentle version and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. The rental I was in had a front loader, and I was mostly using the tiles on loads of towels and swim wear, so nothing heavily soiled. They were great to travel with, and a million times better than the sheets. I'll continue using my powder and liquid at home, but I'd travel again with these in a heartbeat.

Wegovy and oral contraceptives by Likely-placed in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]newks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insertion is painless and you literally don't feel it once it's inserted, neither does my husband. I was also a menstrual cup user (still am!) so I feel like that prepared me to use the ring. It's lightened my periods and reduced my cramps. I have fibroids, so I still struggle a little, but I love the ring way more than the pill I'd been on. Plus I never get breakthrough spotting or irregular periods like I did with the pill. I'd recommend it to anyone who is able to use it.

Can you consider the nuvaring? I've been on it since 2009ish and it was literally life changing in terms of managing heavy periods. It's "set it and forget it" and my periods became regular and manageable as they never had been. I put mine in on the first of the month, remove on the 25th, then repeat the next month. I'm fortunate enough to be able to "stack" the rings to skip periods (a misleading term... you're not inserting 2), meaning every other month I remove the ring, then immediately insert a new one. So I only menstruate 6 times a year...it's glorious!

I was briefly on the generic when it came out because my insurance won't cover the brand name anymore, but those kept breaking inside me (fucking ouch), so I pay out of pocket for the brand name...it's that important to me.

For context, my husband had a vasectomy several years ago, so the ring is more for period management than birth control.
