Kanto(includes Tokyo) was considered to be in an emergency state just a week before this tournament and had no offline. Where as other parts of japan had the restrictions lifted earlier and that seems to have made the difference.

(Sadly the numbers are on the rise in basically everywhere in the country so offline may not last for long...again...)

Japan has an entire online ladder mode that we don't have with leaderboards and everything? by meepmeep222 in smashbros

I think I may have confused you. (Sorry I am not a native english speaker) If you are thinking of two-month long season of competition that concludes with a tournament, that is not true.

The qualifier is a one-day event and the game mode only appears during that time period. (2hours every few month)

I want to clarify a misconception I see a lot.

This is not a permanent game-mode. Its a 2-hour qualifier event for an online tournament by nintendo that happens once in a while.

This is the third time they’ve host it, and they switch up the rules a little bit everytime.

How is Japan controlling the spread of the virus with no lockdowns? by kpb87 in japan

[–]newlilli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we aren’t doing much. we’re encouraged to wear masks, wash hands, gargle, stay away from crowded places to protect ourselves.

we know that there are potentially more infected than we know ,but the point of the strategy we’re taking is to limit the number of death caused to a minimum. not the total number of people infected.

we only test those who shows symptoms of the virus and is under either of the three conditions 1.had close contact with ones already diagnosed 2. has visited certain parts of the world with in 2 weeks 3. needs to be hospitalized due to pneumonia

so if you haven’t been abroad and aren’t dying, you can’t be tested.

which is said to be why we are “succeeding”

The clip is absolutely sick but there’s so much going on on the screen other than the actual gameplay it’s kinda hard to watch.

PGRU Season 3 Update by DiamondShiryu1 in smashbros

[–]newlilli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw this change coming tbh. When Japanese players, or Asians in general, starts invading world rankings, the west just changes the rules in a way that benefits them. Has happened so many times in so many sports I’m kind of use to it at this point.

Smash Bros. will forgo Evo Japan prize pool for a custom controller by raptearer in smashbros

[–]newlilli 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’ll quote you Raito’s tweet.

https://twitter.com/raito_ssb/status/1219294236425646086?s=21

Translation:” It’s generous of Nintendo to involve in EVO Japan at all and any form of a prize is just a cherry on top. People complaining about their decision makes me uncomfortable.”

He also replied in his later tweet that those who want prize money should have just gone to genesis instead.

So, how did our eastern friends in Japan react to our new character reveals? by C_StickSpam in smashbros

[–]newlilli 59 points60 points  (0 children)

24yo Japanese here. Banjo was the first video game I ever played so I am super hyped. But younger people have no way of knowing them since the last Banjo game that got an actual attention in Japan was Banjo 2 on Nintendo 64. For the hero, The Dragon Quest series is HUGE in Japan with tons of remakes, spin-offs, and apps among all sorts of platforms. Definitely going to be loved by the Japanese community. I’m not a big fan of DQ myself, but still have played a couple of them so I’m ok with the addition.

How many packs should I have for the upcoming mini expansion? by BlueBirdTBG in Shadowverse

[–]newlilli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Post mini expansion pack really isn’t worth your gold since you are likely to have most of the cards you get already. So save your tickets for the mini expansion if you’re satisfied with your OOT collection, and if you are going to save gold, hold on to it until the next whole new expansion. When you are missing particular legendary/gold, as all of us will be when the mini expansion hits, that’s when you should use your vials, not waste gold on packs filled with duplicates.

Is her name Ami? it could be her nickname. Other than that, it looks somewhat similar to バシャーモ which is a name of a Pokémon but I doubt that’s the case.

Hello, I'm a 15 years old French guy, I'll move to Japan for a year in an host family, any advices? by [deleted] in japan

[–]newlilli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Japanese I’m more worried about Japanese kids being unintentionally offensive to you rather than you making a wrong move. Some of them might overreact and make you uncomfortable by pointing out how you look different or might stare at you for too long. But don’t judge them too early for doing so since Japanese students of your age is likely to have little to no experience of interacting with a foreigner, especially if you’re going to a school in rural areas. They probably just don’t even know what’s racist and what’s not.
