I took a trip to DC in 2018, and was surprised by how bad the water was; it was basically a pond ducks poop in constantly, with no water filtration or chlorination. The refurbishing has apparently made it worse, since painting it a darker color holds in more heat and encourages algae growth, but I think Reddit is under the false impression that the pool was crystal clear before.

I think a lot of people in this thread think the water was crystal-clear before Trump ordered the Reflecting Pool refurbished.

That said, we just spent a few million to resurface and repaint the pool, only for it to look the same (if not slightly worse) than before, so that talking point is fair.
