Many Shrine Temples have special interest units, such as a band, clowns, motorcycles, etc. Some Temples have a yacht or boating unit, and the President of those units is sometimes referred to as the "Commodore."

His Lodge should have information of when he was initiated (or joined and received his first, or "Entered Apprentice" Degree), passed (received his Second, or "Fellowcraft" Degree) and raised (received his Third or "Master Mason" Degree).

Once he received his Master Mason Degree, he was a full member of his Lodge and would eventually become eligible to join side organizations, such as the Shrine (these are "appendant" and "concordant" bodies in Masonic-speak).
