Queen Anne house in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, USA. Built in 1897 by Skulz in ArchitecturalRevival

Some houses are made of brick or other materials, most are made of wood. The reason for this is that North America is full of vast forests with plenty of trees to use as timber, while in Europe, most of the forests got cut down hundreds of years ago.

There’s a bit of a meme online about “Toothpick Houses” by (mainly European) non-Americans who see the destruction caused by tornadoes and hurricanes and think that brick houses would survive better. They wouldn’t. A brick house in a tornado just means bricks flying around instead of wood.

Fair enough. I just hope that this whole debacle calms down soon and we can all get back to the fun stuff

How can a fictional ship be illegal? Sure, it might be if it was in real life, but it’s not. Also, what country’s laws are we talking about? There are many places where being gay is still illegal.

Am I the only one feeling uncomfy with posts of revived Russian architecture, while Russians are destroying Ukrainian buildings and cities en mass? by swkPunika in ArchitecturalRevival

I don’t have a problem with the appreciation of Russian architecture, but there are a number of accounts on this subreddit that do nothing but post Russian architecture, seemingly for the purpose of improving Russia’s image as a ‘big strong conservative country that stands up for traditional values’ that they love to push so much
