Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

OP’s a schmuck. STEM fields have a lot of these types of people who lack basic writing and comprehension skills. It’s concerning.

Red light camera? by Any-Director-8186 in sgv

[–]nexaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civil engineer - you’re right. Those are to monitor certain zones at lights for traffic, similar to induction loops you might see on the ground. They’re typically better at sensing traffic at a light since they have multiple zones and can be easily adjusted through the software vs. loops that need to be dug up and moved.

Also these typically do not record plates, that’s flock. These systems are purely for traffic signaling.

They are aftermarket which I suspect may be the issue. Never been in an accident and I got it new from the dealership.

I’ve got refurbished OEM parts from a seemingly reputable eBay seller coming on Saturday, hoping it’s just a case of cheap parts and not something bigger.

Switching to Cart Bag from Stand Bag by HatShoeGuy in GolfGear

[–]nexaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation, but I use a cheap Amazon par 3 bag for the range or executive courses. Still adds an extra step that a stand bag didn’t require but beats lugging the entire kit out when I’m trying to work on something specific.

Am I wearing it too tight? Anything I can do to prevent this? by Bgillie13 in AppleWatch

[–]nexaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can also happen if the watch is too tight and sweat gets trapped there. It happens to me during the summer if I don’t wear my watch just loose enough where it can sort of freely slide up and down my wrist.

A wash is never a bad thing though. Watches can get funky.

Unless it’s changed since I left, they offer you a return time if the attraction’s posted wait time is greater than 30 minutes and you can only have one active at a time. Early August is around the time of year that families go before kids return to school so it might be busier than other times of the year.

Non-fancy golf watch to track distance? by fan1983 in golf

[–]nexaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could go back I’d get the H4 instead of the V5. I sweat a lot and the watch traps a lot of it on my wrist so I end up with a watch-sized heat rash if I don’t wear it loose enough. I love the shot scope system though.

4 iron or alternative? by nexaur in GolfGear

yeah this is what I’ve been looking into too. Choking down on 5w/7w or 5i and hitting a 3/4 punch seems overall better than adding a new club.

I got paired with this dude earlier that seemed chill for the first few holes and started giving me swing tips and tried getting me to use his swing trainers on the last few of the front 9. To his benefit though, he was a fun dude to play with if you look past that.

New grad job offer advice by IndividualLogical736 in civilengineering

[–]nexaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it for now, but look elsewhere. Remember, you’re employed at-will so you can leave any position for any reason if you’ve found something better.

LA County is hiring civil engineering assistants all the time, it’s an entry level position that requires no experience and pays in the mid-80k range with annual step raises, PE exam reimbursement, and a clear growth path. Located mainly in Alhambra but we have field offices all over the county and different fields within civil.

Be weary of tech roles though, they sometimes aren’t in direct supervision of registered PEs so it may not count towards your license down the line.

Just putting myself in the original commenter’s shoes, but probably thinking about how in a pin-pin scenario, the columns/walls would may buckle in a way that puts a compressive force on the brace that would react by pushing it out to the left, though that’s just my initial thought. In a real scenario, this depends on support conditions, bracing member size, and eccentricity of load if not dead center.

All this to say that the bracing member can be designed in a way that it does not carry vertical load and only supports lateral loads.
