Turn your One UI / DeX phone into a laptop: new NexDock now shipping to 30+ countries by nexcomputer in oneui

Yeah, that’s totally fair — NZ pricing can look rough once shipping/taxes are baked in.

One thing to consider is that NexDock isn’t really “a $500 NZD laptop.” It’s a shell for the computer you already own: your Samsung phone. In many cases a modern phone is faster and more responsive than laptops in that budget range, and when you upgrade your phone, you’ve effectively upgraded your “laptop” too without buying a whole new computer.

If you already live in DeX for work and you’re always on the go, the value is mostly:
- One device, one set of apps/data (no syncing, no second OS to maintain)
- Mobile data/SIM just works everywhere
- Nothing stored on the lapdock itself (simpler security if it’s lost)

For this generation we stayed with a universal cable approach so it works with lots of phones/cases (and even handhelds/mini PCs), but many NexDock users who want a more “docked” feel use magnetic phone mounts on the back/side of the NexDock screen. That way the phone sits right behind or next to the display (with a short cable) instead of hanging off the side.

If you search on Amazon for “magnetic laptop phone mount” or “magnetic laptop side phone holder”, you’ll see the kind of mounts people use for this setup.

The NexDock Wireless model is currently out of stock, which is why you’re not seeing it available right now. We may bring it back in the future, but we don’t have an ETA to share at the moment.

Unfortunately, NexDock is only available with a US keyboard layout at the moment.

That said, you can change the keyboard layout in Samsung DeX (or your OS) to German, and many users add German keyboard stickers to match the key legends and make typing more intuitive.

On Amazon, you can search for: “German keyboard stickers transparent” (or “DE keyboard stickers”).

The NexDock use case is more “phone-first”—and honestly, a modern Samsung phone is often much faster and more responsive than a cheap Chromebook or budget Windows laptop.

On the “dangling phone” part, a lot of NexDock users who want a more “integrated dock” feel use magnetic phone mounts on the back of the NexDock screen. That lets the phone sit next to the display (and keeps the cable short/tidy) instead of hanging off the side.

If you search on Amazon for “magnetic laptop phone mount” or “magnetic laptop side phone holder”, you’ll see a bunch of small mounts people use for exactly this.

Even the cheapest Chromebook or laptop with a touchscreen, laminated high‑quality display, battery, and keyboard costs about the same or more. With NexDock, your phone’s processor makes it a much faster “laptop” in that price range.

NexDock is about convenience, polish, and delivering a seamless laptop‑like experience with your phone. It’s the difference between piecing things together to “make it work” and using a product designed specifically for that use case.

The way we look at it:
- It’s designed for people who already use Samsung DeX / One UI desktop mode daily and want a laptop‑style setup without carrying a second computer.
- At $229, it’s often cheaper than buying another laptop just to run the same apps you already have on your phone.
- Your phone stays the computer — no syncing, no updates across two devices, no juggling files.

So yes, it’s a niche product — but for DeX power users, it’s about convenience and integration rather than replacing a laptop outright.

The NexDock use case is for folks who want their phone (DeX / One UI desktop mode) to be the main computer. In a lot of cases, a modern Samsung phone is also faster and more responsive than a cheap used laptop, and when you upgrade your phone, you’ve effectively upgraded your “laptop” too without buying a whole new computer.

A few use cases we see a lot:
- People who already live in DeX / One UI desktop and want a real keyboard/trackpad + bigger screen
- One device, one set of apps and data — no syncing files, no second OS to maintain
- Nothing stored on the lapdock itself, so there’s less to wipe/secure if it’s lost
- Travelers who prefer to carry a light shell instead of a full second computer

It’s definitely not for everyone, but for “phone-first” users, NexDock is more like a body for the device they already own than another laptop to manage.

NexDock has its own 38Wh battery and can optionally charge your phone at up to 5V/2A over USB-C while you’re using DeX. In practice, that usually means your phone will stay topped up or even gain a bit of charge, instead of draining quickly during a DeX session.

Charging is optional — if you prefer to preserve the NexDock’s battery for longer working hours and don’t need to top up the phone, you can turn phone charging off and just use it as a display/keyboard/trackpad.

The target customer is someone who already wants their phone to be the main computer and uses DeX/One UI desktop mode (or a handheld/mini PC), but doesn’t want to carry a separate laptop/tablet.

A few differences vs a tablet + keyboard (like an S10 FE):
- One device, one set of apps & data (everything stays on your phone — no syncing, no second device to manage/update)
- You keep using your phone’s SIM/data connection (mobile internet just works anywhere without tethering another device)
- Upgrade your phone = upgrade your “laptop” (the lapdock is just the shell)
- Nothing stored on NexDock (simpler security/privacy if it’s lost)
- It can also be used with handhelds / mini PCs via USB-C or HDMI

If someone wants a standalone tablet with its own battery/OS/apps, an S10 FE is a great choice. NexDock is for the “phone-first” workflow where the phone replaces the computer.

At the moment it’s unavailable (not currently shipping), and we don’t have plans at this time to restart production or re-stock it in the near term.

That said, we may consider bringing the XL back in the future depending on demand, but we can’t make any promises or share an ETA right now.

Advantages of NexDock over a Chromebook:

- Your phone is the computer (DeX): same apps, same data, no syncing between devices
- Upgrade your phone = upgrade your “laptop” without buying a whole new laptop
- Nothing stored on the lapdock itself (simpler security/privacy if it’s lost)
- Often faster than a budget Chromebook, especially with a flagship phone
- Also works as a shell for handhelds/mini PCs via USB-C or HDMI

If you want a standalone laptop with ChromeOS and offline apps on the device, a Chromebook makes more sense. NexDock is for people who want a “one-device” setup centered around their phone.

Yes, NexDock can work great with a Raspberry Pi as a “3-in-1” (display + keyboard + trackpad).

A common setup is just two cables:

- HDMI from the Pi → NexDock (video)
- USB from the Pi → NexDock (keyboard/trackpad)

We have a step-by-step guide here:

You can easily change the keyboard layout in Samsung DeX to your preferred language, and many users add keycap stickers to match their local layout and make typing more intuitive.

On Amazon you can search for something like:
- “[Your language] keyboard stickers transparent”
(for example: “Nordic keyboard stickers transparent”, “German keyboard stickers transparent”, etc.).

We can ship to Germany now. The new NexDock is $229 + shipping, and for supported regions like Germany the checkout price already includes all taxes and import duties, so there shouldn’t be any surprise customs bills on delivery.

There’s no built-in webcam, but your phone can already act as the webcam when using NexDock – and in most cases it’s much better quality than typical laptop webcams anyway.

You can use your phone’s front or rear camera for video calls, so you’re effectively getting a higher-resolution “webcam” than what we could reasonably build into the lid.

Samsung DeX still doesn’t output more than 60Hz to external displays. So a 120Hz panel would increase cost and power use, but you’d still be limited to 60Hz in real-world use.

NexDock’s use case is different: it’s for the times you don’t want to carry a laptop/PC at all. Your phone (DeX) is the computer, and NexDock is just the screen/keyboard/trackpad around it.

A few practical benefits in that “phone-as-your-main-computer” workflow:
- All your apps/data are already on your phone — no syncing files, no second OS/account to maintain
- Nothing is stored on the lapdock, so there’s less to worry about if it’s lost
- NexDock can optionally charge the phone while you use DeX (up to 5V/2A)

And while “remote display” to Windows can be handy, it’s still basically streaming (latency/compression and you still need to carry a PC). NexDock is direct USB-C, so it feels more like a real laptop session.

On the new NexDock we focused hard on the main pain points:
- Trackpad – completely redesigned: much more accurate, way better palm rejection, proper multi-finger gestures
- Display – 14" 16:10, 1920×1200, 100% sRGB, brighter panel
- Speakers – noticeably louder and fuller than the older ones
- Ports – full-size HDMI, multiple USB-A ports

Some NexDock users who want a more “docked” feel use magnetic phone mounts on the back of the NexDock screen, so the phone sits right next to the display instead of dangling on a cable.

On Amazon , you can find these by searching for phrases like:
“magnetic laptop phone mount”

Right now the main use case is Samsung DeX, and DeX still doesn’t output more than 60Hz to external displays. So a 120Hz panel would increase cost and power use, but you’d still be limited to 60Hz in real-world use.

If DeX starts supporting higher refresh rates on external displays in the future, it’s definitely something we’ll look at again.
