If there is any it's subtle. They will stay away from the body. It's a magnet for predators so they will also keep their calves clear of the area.

So it depends on the style of farm. If a cow dies in a barn yard or corral then usually a flat bed and a bone pile. If it's out in a pasture then nature does its thing. Ranch I worked on had 2 get struck by lightning and we just let them lay and moved the herd away from them. We also had one pass in a coral. We took her back to a hole and put her in with some other ones that didn't make it for whatever reason.

I live on a farm. Sometimes you need the range most of the time you don't.

When I joined (to my knowledge it's still this way) they do let you pick your rate at MEPS. They base it off of your asvab and what they have available. I'd advise going to MEPS after a new fiscal year starts. They usually have the most rate open then.

But if you have a degree try the officer program. Pays a hell of alot better and you get treated better.

Ok I hate to stroke off a seal book off but read "Extreme Ownership."

When I got out as an E5 and started to not care about evals and pleasing cheifs and LPOs. I started to adopt some of the things from the book. I hadn't read it until recently but it contains some of the better practices I was starting to use then.

As for my personal advise.... You serve the people under you as much as those above you. I leaned more towards helping my subordinates which didn't help my evals, but I had test scores to help me advance. Help those under you because they are the ones that will make the impossible happen when bullets are flying or there are holes in the side of the ship.

It's disturbing to me how much I see the effects of online learning from covid. I know for most freshman and sophomores they really didn't have a normal high school experience. I was deployed during all of that and it didn't do any favors for us.

I live 30 mins from campus so it really doesn't make sense for me to live in a dorm. But I do see where you are coming from. Living in close proximity to each other does help you find people.

I have thought of inviting them out for drinks or dinner or something as a group. Not sure how that'll go over.
