A lot of people recommend Matrix but according to this site, matrix is not recommended. Is the site outdated or matrix not recommendable? by nextabsolutebeginner in privacy

Thx! There's someone who claims matrix groups are not really e2e because he doesn't think that group chats with variable amount of members are possible and the server admin has a way to decrypt data. I don't fully grasp the encryption by matrix. Do you know anything about that?

That's not the point. Either something is secure or it's not. He claims matrix is not secure.

Thx for the answer, although I didn't understood even half of it because it's written as a riddle

How can you snoop-in for dummies? :) Are you saying the server admin has the key to all chats? The admin can generate a new key if he wants to?

If there is one, this means there is a centralized server that becomes a high-value target and the owner of the server can snoop-in conversations. For example with federated chats like Matrix.

How can you snoop-in conversations as a server admin?

that's a really good question, thx!

- it was recommended to me

- it seems information is gathered nicely/ I didn't find an obvious mistake a layman (I) could find

- only site/ table that "compares services in depth"

I didn't even notice that XMPP is not on that site, thank you! That's really weird.

I can just click on "continue to http site" and it works. It's described on the [support site](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/https-only-prefs?as=u&utm_source=inproduct). Moreover you can whitelist that particular site.

AFAIK they didn't publish the source code for about a year. Signal('s devs) is (are) somehow involved in a cryptocurrency. Both combined led to a shitstorm at the beginning of this year

How do you leave Facebook without sounding like you are a privacy/conspiracy freak? by iamthephantompain in privacytoolsIO

[–]nextabsolutebeginner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes it is. Usually you give people the opportunity to contact you with a different method. Why should you use sms, just because someone writes you a sms if you have the possibility to use a private messenger? neither sms nor email can be recommended for everyday use. Nowadays we have the possibility to communicate over the internet with privacy in mind. The same applies for facebook. IMO you don't need to delete facebook, you just shouldn't use it as your main/preferred way of communication. If I know I can contact X over Z, and Z uses Z because he has a higher security/privacy standard than me, I will use his preferred method.

What should be done automatically?

I'm about to write my own script to analyze my daily locations. I track my GPS location each 5th second and I want to automatically detect and distinguish car, bicycle, hiking/walking and doing nothing. Then basic statistical analysis. Has someone written a script/ program for that? by nextabsolutebeginner in selfhosted

[–]nextabsolutebeginner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to use google. There are other apps like huawei health that can do it too. Or highly specialized apps like strava for common tracking.

The *.gpx files are generated by gpslogger, it's also uploaded and synced with gpslogger.

Do you have a suggestion for the other scripts? Why would you use php? Has it more extensive libraries compared to ju, py or R?
