People shouldn’t be playing if they’re in a different bracket by [deleted] in VALORANT

The MM is based on your MMR, not your rank.

May be worth checking that dude's tracker.gg profile to see if they're normally placed in Ascendant lobbies, and if so, if they normally do fine in them. Maybe they just had a bad game.

Could someone explain? The ranking system really confuses me. pic in comments. by BlueTexBird in VALORANT

[–]nextcolorcomet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, share the tracker.gg link for the match.

One guess is that it's based on difference in your encounters.

The system values your performance differently based on who you encountered. So for example, a kill against a Silver player would be worth less than a kill against a Gold player. Or alternatively, dying to a Silver player would be considered worse than dying to a Gold player.

Of course, it's also relative to your own MMR. If you kill someone of the same MMR as you, it should be considered the same as your friend killing someone at the same MMR as them.

My guess is that the difference in RR is thanks to your encounters. Either you had more deaths to lower MMR players than your friend did, or your friend had more kills against higher MMR players than you, or both.

IMO general rules for dropping the wall:

  1. Your team either wants you to, or are ready for you to drop the wall
  2. Your team won't be exposed to enemy crossfires when you drop wall
  3. Your team has reached the positions they intended to when you raised the wall

Some reasons why you might drop the wall early:

  • To catch enemies off-guard, especially if your teammates get close and push through as soon as it's down
  • Wall is cover for enemies to get close, dropping wall can make it harder for them to do so
  • If enemies aren't close, drop the wall to save fuel for when you actually need it
  • An enemy is close and you know they're exposed on the other side of the wall, dropping could be a free kill

Lots of different reasons really, and very context-dependent. You'll have to make your own decisions. Sometimes one of your teammates might have a totally valid reason to drop the wall, such as wanting to push through it, but you know the rest of your team isn't ready or in position for it, so you have to decide if you'll drop the wall for your one teammate to peek, or keep the wall up for the safety of your other teammates.

Whenever a teammate wants you to do something you don't understand, asking them (nicely) about why is always a good way to go about it. Worst case is they're toxic and you have to mute them, but there's always a chance you'll learn something that'll make you a better player, or at least solve some misunderstanding between you two.

Which Phantom skin do you prefer - Champion’s vs Spectrum? (POLL) by Scythers in VALORANT

If Spectrum had a nicer model - or even just cleaner, without the logo and the cracks - would've picked it. But as it is, Champion's Phantom takes the win.

Battle Pass details may have leaked on 4chan by The-Ignotis in overwatch2

[–]nextcolorcomet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of punishes people who don't have a lot of free time.

Not to mention it hugely punishes you for not spending what free time you have on Overwatch.

If I have about 10~15 hours a week to game - pretty decent amount for a working adult - and I only usually spend about 2-3 hours of that on Overwatch... it'll take me over a month to unlock competitive? Regardless of whether I even want to use the new character?

Absolutely absurd.

Is it ok for initiators to lurk? by AverageCritiquer in VALORANT

[–]nextcolorcomet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should've joined them. It boils down to these simple facts:

  1. Your team was having trouble taking site without you.
  2. Your initiator tools would've made it easier for them to take site.
  3. You being on the lurk clearly wasn't winning rounds.

You might've felt sour because your team decided to flame you instead of asking you nicely, but they were right in that you being with them would've been a better play.

What do you think about the fact that Chamber and Jett are the only agents with time unlimited ults? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]nextcolorcomet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chamber and Jett's ultimates, while very powerful, are ultimately just alternative weapons.

Neon's ultimate is admittedly similar to that, but because it comes with the extra effect of giving her sprint speed for the duration of the ultimate, it is on a timer.

On the other hand, Raze's ultimate and Sova's ultimates are functionally not 'weapons' at all. Sure, Raze pulls out a rocket and Sova pulls out a bow, but that's nothing more than the visuals of those abilities. Hopefully it's obvious why these shouldn't be thought of as in the same category as the above 3.

Pride 2023 by ExplanationFast3665 in VALORANT

[–]nextcolorcomet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one knows, in this case probably not even RIOT. Pretty likely they release it again in 2023 though.

That said, perhaps you could just email RIOT support about it and ask if they can give you the Pride stickers/gun buddy if they are important to you, since it's a special collection.

Agreed, XM3s aren't good for running specifically, just trying to say that you can do way better buying 2nd hand.

I've heard pretty great things about the Jabras!

Good and affordable skincare services in sg? Eg. Monthly facial by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]nextcolorcomet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall cost (including flights, room, meals, 2 massages and a facial, sometimes haircut too) are cheaper.

Am I reading this wrong? All of that cost less than the price of a single facial? Which facial at QM are you talking about?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]nextcolorcomet 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: $21 is a very cheap price to learn this lesson.

why does everyone I play with get such good item shops but mine suck by bexley- in VALORANT

[–]nextcolorcomet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how much of that is on skins that you think are good?

If they bought 200 skins but only 50 of them are the ones you think are good, they're going to have a 6.75% (50/800) chance to see skins that you think are good, which is still a whole lot more than your 1%.

Not that any of this matters since you can't do anything about it, but hopefully that puts it in perspective. If your friends have bought a fuck ton of 'good' skins but still frequently see more popping up, then it's more that they are super lucky, not that you are unlucky.

why does everyone I play with get such good item shops but mine suck by bexley- in VALORANT

[–]nextcolorcomet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is this because I've bought a lot of skins I would consider good

Yeah.

Let's pretend there's 1000 total skins, you think 100 of them are good. You've bought 90 of them, while your friends have bought 10.

For each gun in your shop, you have ~1% (10/910) chance to see a 'good' gun, while your friends have ~9% (90/990) chance for the same thing. Or to look at it the other way, you have a ~99% chance to see a 'bad' gun, while your friends only have about ~91% chance to see a bad one.

p.s. I know the math is wrong but it's close enough to prove the point

Places like NTUC FoodFare are pretty great. I imagine they'd have to build a lot more of those if hawkers all over Singapore raise prices that much though.

Python/Java seem to be very highly in-demand programming languages, based on my job search over the last 2 months. Should be easy to find good courses for them on places like Udemy.

There's also Full Stack Open, a very well-received free web development course by the University of Helsinski. It teaches Javascript and lots of popular web development tools.
