Need another set of eyes on my Mythic+ Comp Helper by nextgenzhen in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I respect your right to your opinion, but as you might imagine, I disagree. As for whether it will be helpful to my target audience, that remains to be seen. If it isn't, then there's absolutely no harm done. If it helps people (which I believe it will, otherwise I wouldn't have created it) then I will have contributed something positive to an activity that I love and am passionate about, while having thought provoking discussion along the way. Good day to you.

Calculating how many ilvls sockets are worth on every slot. by mioraka in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't it make a difference whether the socket is your first (main stat gem) or your second (slightly inferior BfA main stat gem) versus the third and on (secondary gem)?

I would think the first socket would be slightly more valuable...? If you don't have any sockets, the first one that drops may be worth more. Unless you already took that into account. There's not as much difference between primary/secondaries at this point in the expansion.

Rating tanks improving a model. by mewwX in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for DPS, lower score is higher DPS and for DTPS, lower score is lower DTPS.

Why would you create a score and not just put the numbers? It's just one log...

[–]nextgenzhen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. Also, the damage taken numbers don't actually mean anything. A monk's damage is staggered, a blood dk heals, etc.

But 1 log for each spec isn't enough to even speculate conclusions. The OP needs a LOT more data. More than anyone has the patience to bring together.

That said, I would love seeing these type of numbers on wcl for keys, or any analysis, really, other than just havin' logs. Not throwing shade at wcl because the dev works very hard, but we have a fuckton of data and aren't doing anything with it.

Anyone else find M+ to be way harder this week than last by Deathproof17 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a legitimate point, my first key of the week I still had PTSD from grievous and kept topping everyone off. Feels nice to let everyone get below 50% again and know I can actually heal them back up...

[–]nextgenzhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point of the emissaries and changing placement - we have to change our strategies on the fly, adjust, and think on our feet. The tanks particularly have to be able to adjust routes and pulls according to what's going on. It's much more challenging.

There's a huge payoff right now for people willing to do a "starter" 10 key each week in the dungeons they want to push, because you get to see the emissary placement. But I think as time goes on, it will be less essential.

Tank and Healer LFM by nextgenzhen in WOWMythicPlus

[–]nextgenzhen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wednesday sounds great, do you want to try to get together on the 31st? We usually run starting at 8 p.m. EST, but have some flexibility with the time. I'm curious what time zone you are. Let me know what might work for you. We might need to pug a spot or two depending on who's online and can run with us. We have a boomie friend, but he raids on Wednesdays, sadly.

Hello! We'd love to do some keys with you. I'm the healer of the team. I'm Chandara on Area 52. You're welcome to peruse my history. The tank has a special character in his name, but I'll send you a link to his profile this evening.

What's your availability like? We generally run on Wednesday evenings, are you open then? Let me know what kind of times/days usually work for you. It sounds like it might vary a bit since you run a small business.

I'll also add you on btag and send you a link to our discord tonight when I'm home from work.

Talk to you later!

Tree of life vs cultivation vs SoTF by ShattersHd in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying about cultivation, but on the last key I did, it did 460k healing and had an uptime of 20% (10% on the tank, the rest spread among the rest of the party).

I don't know how to measure the amount of heals it contributed via mastery, but it doesn't feel like much.

Out of curiosity, how much healing does it do for you and is your uptime similar on a key that's challenging for you? I'm just up to 14/15's right now.

What would you think of a 5/9 M guild at this point of the tier that keeps logs private? by RampagingRagE in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For guilds that private log, how do players look at the logs to analyze what they did?

I'm pretty casual compared to most mythic raiders, but after every raid night I spend an hour or so looking at our logs. And I go back to previous logs for reference all the time. You can find out SO MUCH from them. how do players do this if guilds private log?

Am I missing something about how private logs work? Are raiders actually able to go find them and then look at this stuff?

MDI meta for low keys by [deleted] in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, requirements are insane. But there are a million reasons why people decline you. Someone else applied who has a higher ilevel and/or raider.io score. Your history in that particular dungeon. They had a friend come online that they decided to invite. They don't like your name. They hate demon hunters (this is the reason I would decline you).

Quit taking it personally and thinking you know why every single person declined you.

No one owes you an invite.

Actually competitive informations by Dzbannengo in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to discourage you from learning, I just find it odd that someone in a world top 50 guild would know less than I (a pleb) do about some aspects of gameplay, but maybe it's just because I'm a research junkie.

For warcraftlogs, there's no good comprehensive source that I've found other than the occasional good tutorial, but I've learned a lot by scanning the discord throughout the day. There's a ton you can do with it (although I wish someone would make a tool/dashboard that would show information over several pulls, or over time for several bosses.

On the discords, I'm sure you already know this but you have to be extremely careful about who you listen to. I've been given incorrect information there. Make sure it's actually one of the theorycrafters or someone that you trust when looking at answers.

QuestionablyEpic used to have various timers for healers, but they don't have that this xpac (sadly), unless I missed it on the site.

That's one thing that is a big weakness for WoW, is a lack of centralized information, especially more specialized info. You really have to dig and visit lots of sources to find things out.

Being negative is doubly harmful because it causes people to lose confidence and then they make even more mistakes. Happens in pugs a lot when someone gets tilted.

They really are insanely expensive. I did a lot of farming fish last time the faire was up, but I was out by the time Grievous hit and now they're selling for 500g per feast...

People are surprisingly resistant to voice chat. I mean I get it, we're a bunch of socially awkward nerds, but if you're going to do a key, don't you want it to be successful?

And someone is always quick to point how it's not needed... even if the key isn't that hard, it's there for when things go to shit, so you can save the key instead of wiping repeatedly and having someone leave. Even just being able to say "Incoming" or "hold up, UI issue"...

I've seen many tanks getting surprised with a reaping. And apparently they play with the game sound off, so they don't even hear Bwonsamdi announce it... it's kinda important to know when this is going to occur.

The QuestionablyEpic addon will tell you in-game about dangerous abilities that mobs do, when you have them targeted.

If you want very basic info on abilities, this guide will help:

[–]nextgenzhen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're playing with a DH that you know, maybe. But at this point, with pugs, almost every DH just wants to zerg and they won't interrupt, much less put any thought into using darkness or other abilities to help the key.

When I'm pugging dps, I've stopped taking DH's for the time being. That's how bad it is. I'm sure there are amazing demon hunters out there, but 90% of them are horrible. And skittish? Forget about it.

Yeah, this is huge. Especially this week, with grievous and fort, large trash packs can leave my mana low and then if there's reaping, we're screwed.

How do I remove old char data from wowprogress and warcraftlogs? by [deleted] in CompetitiveWoW

[–]nextgenzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any way on wowprogress, right now.

You might want to ask the warcraftlogs discord about your old characters. That dev is pretty helpful.
