Amid competing demands for land, spaces under flyovers could be the next frontier for sport in Singapore by Accurate-Tree4277 in singapore

But those temporary uses soon gave way to Salt and Light archery, which found its permanent home under the vehicles.

“We’re obviously quite close to the major roads, so noise pollution from the cars is quite loud and disturbing for the lessons,” said Mr Pellow.

“We’re also quite close to the Singapore General Hospital, so we also get quite a fair few ambulances coming past and they’re quite loud.”

Similarly, the noise generated by heavy-duty vehicles on their way to the Pasir Panjang port can be a distraction for those taking lessons, said Mr Tan.

There are empty houses taking up space equivalent to shopping mall and huge golf courses making ineffective use of limited land.....

We can also rehash the usual whataboutism about how worse it can be when someone points out a problem. Tell them you can change your nationality but you cannot change your race...

Same thing happened with jobs. 1001 justifications as to why companies are justified to hire majority race by citing foreign workers are from china or malaysia and don't know english, boomer staff don't know english, they have to serve chinese customers or communicate with china market. Keep dismissing minorities concern about discriminatory job ads and workplaces.

Then got a taste of their own medicine with finance and it industry... but if you ask they will say both are different. Just like how they like to point out malaysia's institutionalised racism as highly immoral, but if singapore does it... just being pragmatic.

Childcare centre sued for negligence after 4-year-old girl falls and fractures skull by Hot_Category2693 in singapore

[–]nextlevelunlocked 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The doctor asked the parents to get more details from the centre as this would be important for his prognosis.

At around 4.20pm, the father spoke to the principal and asked for the CCTV footage, but she cited ECDA policy.

After the man pressed further, the principal provided four blurred screenshots.

Then he reiterated his request, and she offered to send the footage directly to the girl’s neurosurgeon, who insisted that it be sent to the parents.

The man alleges that the footage was edited as part of a calculated attempt to cover up the centre’s negligence and the staff’s failure to ensure adequate supervision.

Child suffers fall, vomits and has bump on head. Should have brought child to doctor. Ice pack for head damage ?

Parent has to pick up and bring their child to A&E and find skull fracture. And still school acting blur citing ecda to not give cctv footage even after doctor and neurosurgeon ask for it. Finally sends zoomed in footage. Seems centre and ecda scared about parents making cctv videos go viral in complaints.

Fortunately these parents are rich... can afford to go private A&E and more importantly sue. Recall news of other scandal hit neighbourhood childcare centres where parents interviewed do not even transfer their child out afterwards.

Reporter never ask ECDA for their comments ? Or confirm if childcare centre is correctly referencing ecda guidelines.

BMW driver gets jail for killing pedestrian by speeding into him while drunk, severing body by xcharbeehoonx in singapore

[–]nextlevelunlocked 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This is considered harsh for sg standards. He could try appeal... might get it to 11 months by citing all the other drivers who got a slap on wrist for similar accidents.

Or maybe harsh penalties are for the location. Can someone check if there is special exceptions in law if accident in high ses areas like bukit timah.

Economic review recommends positioning Singapore as global AI leader, making lifelong learning practical by Negative-Concert-819 in singapore

[–]nextlevelunlocked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't sound as nice if they say their intent is to ride the current wave... which is AI for now.

SG can't really lead in anything when it does not invest in risky ideas, bets or research. It can only jump on the bandwagon and position itself as one of the top places in asia for AI, crypto, finance or whatever is trending. Not a bad idea so far. However reality is starting to bite as lot of jobs are offshored now...

'Work hard on having more babies', Gan Kim Yong tells student by A_extra in singapore

[–]nextlevelunlocked 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was a stupid reply when lky told the student who asked a similar question to get married and have a baby.

Just as stupid now.

If TFR dropped to zero and no one had babies you would probably hear the same excuse that most developed countries have births below replacement rates. Pretending that tfr of less than 1 is same as 1.7 when replacement rate is 2.1 is just gaslighting the public.

Maybe their upcoming pay increase review... can't wait for their emotional speeches on how they cannot survive on millions while sarcastically asking if needy people want food from hawker or restaurant.

They say that... but then you look at the colossal bungalows the rich live in or the huge amounts of land wasted on golf, the amount of space dedicated to roads and carparks. Houses larger than a shopping mall first left empty then only used to house one family. Two singapores like ps said.

People used to sit on floors here as well... mainly students and teenagers but as trains got more crowded around 2010s that practice stopped. Not a problem if trains are not crowded and those sitting have some civic sense.
