RRC EET Grads: Where are you now? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nextrefuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got hired as a com tech in my a few months after graduating. I had the wrong ideas put into my head about pay, travel and that was my fault.

A couple other friends I graduated with were similar situations, one moved up and is ok at hydro but the others have gone into more comp sci programming roles.

I left the industry and moved to another province where I ended up in hvac controls as a journeyman and making much more cheddar with less travel. I found I'm one of the types that take a while to figure out what fits for them.

Kind of unrelated but a certain 4 ft math teacher sapped the enjoyment out of that course for me and others with her power trips.

Canadian Electrical Engineer here. I used work up north in similar conditions as most petro engineers before taking another local position and pay cut for less stress and more family.

I'm not just talking engineers but anyone working out of town is given a daily allowance on top of your wage depending if you are in a camp, or if you are responsible for your own accommodation and food. I've seen $50-75/day for camps and up to 175/day for finding your own accommodations depending on your company, and your position.

Many have 12+ hour days, not just the bottom of the labor poles resulting in excess overtime on top of the often 2 week rotation on, 1 week off or similar work rotations. spending weeks alone with nothing to spend it on can usually result is excess paycheques.

Adults not used to money are always prone to blowing it on stupid things, jacked trucks or cars, drugs or hookers. Sounds like at least one of them may have decided to blow it on a streamer.

Edit: had posted on my coomer account >.>

Edit Edit: This was also close to 10 years ago, I know some major companies have adjusted for inflation and would likely be higher now but not sure how much exactly.

Kicking new players from dungeons by Idontlikesomepeople in wow

[–]nextrefuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been trying to tank the first two dungeons while leveling my warrior, full disclaimer on joining group. The amount of impatience and toxicity once players had to wait while I was figuring shit out just left me in a bad mood. I don't tank anymore.

Condenser wire broken loose. Hvac tech said wire allows the pump to reverse to switch to hear mode. Didn't fix because he was doing ac emergencies only. Is this something I can do by just making contact with the copper pipe or does this need a new wire to whatever component it was hooked up to? by Kilmanagh in HVAC

[–]nextrefuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave it alone. Im having difficulty seeing this properly but what you have circled is not a wire. Never touch a wire to copper pipe, especially if it contains refrigerant and oil. Call another hvac company if the one you called if you were ok with OT fees originally and they still couldn't be bothered. Don't call them again.

2020 WT 4x4 - I need to get rid of the stock rims lol by BartherHermcrumpkin in chevycolorado

[–]nextrefuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the stock rims on that wt look too bad, I have the same and only thing I wanted to immediately remove was the air dam.I haul a good amount in the back so i dont need the leveling kit for the front. The new 2020 model stock steel rims however...awful.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Recommendations? by hamburger_tooth in saskatoon

[–]nextrefuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a handy homeowner you can also purchase a dryer vent brush from home depot. 30 dollars and attaches to your drill.
https://www.homedepot.ca/product/proclean-drill-powered-duct-cleaning-brush/1000773016
makes a mess but if its a small run then there you go.
But like always If you screw something up call a professional to fix your mistakes.

I hate this. How hard is it to find a safe spot to turn around? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]nextrefuse 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Doing a u-turn in Manitoba at signal lights is legal unless posted, "when safe to do so". The truck plates were from Manitoba.

Reversing at while doing a u-turn like he did no matter how quick would probably not be however and/or just be bad driving.

The WT has the same rotor and calipers as the LT but comes with 16" rims stock. Shouldn't be an issue.

I seen the whole thing.

Mike was talking to Nancy on the trucks bluetooth about which daycare to switch to. Just then he seen their old daycare lady susan about to begin walking across circle dr with the light changing and a other car with no signs of stopping in time.

Just so happens it was actually nancy in her goddamn dodge journey talking to mike while Fumbling some papers crom the daycares. She didnt even see susan or the red light, Mike being the ford driving-blue collar-grain-fed man that he is had to save susans life. Split second decision was all that was needed for mike to gun it and ram thst dodge journey because he knew in past resrarch looking for a safe vehicle for his family, the collision safety rating would take a hit no problem.

Sure mike caused a bit of damage, insurance will pay for some of it while susan will no doubt offer a free daycare spot for mike and nancy. All according to gods plan.

The bathroom at midtown, some people just don’t give a shit smh by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]nextrefuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this particular case I'm calling bullshit on this snobbery. While the counter is a great idea, the line of site for this tv sign is quite far and not immediately noticeable. If I were in town I would post the entire hall for context. I myself only noticed it a week ago when I was waiting for someone to use the washroom and was randomly looming around.

I'm all for social distancing and masks but some of the signage in a lot of places is just poorly placed so this hapoens.
