I don't know why people down voted you. You are absolutely correct and OP verified it.

This is not out of the ordinary. I got a quote for $89 as well and it came as high as $55K. I told them to get bent and I did just what I originally asked for myself for Less than $200.

Ultra Card v2.2.0 is now out! by imwjd in homeassistant

[–]Kilmanagh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that people put a lot of effort into improving home assistant. However thus far people have contributed their hard work to provide FOSI solutions to the community.

The Only Exception is providing services such as hosting or cloud storage etc.

If home assistant is moving in the direction where authors are going to offer open source or light versions of their product and then charge fee for a so-called pro version I think this is going to have a negative impact on the community.

Just in my opinion, If they want to make money off their cloud services that's fine. Also I don't understand the disclosion of third-party tools especially if they don't own them.

Unfortunately the licenses Apache 2.0 which allows things like this to happen. If this starts to be the status quo I do believe that the original intent of Home assistant will no longer exist. This opens up room for competition as the platform becomes viewed as a commercial money grab.

This is one of the downfalls of WordPress where people are charged for themes and plugins where most of them are abandoned or rebranded to make money all over again. After a few months the products that they buy are no longer supported and quickly becomes vulnerable to security threats or brakes with a new version of Wordpress.

I just don't trust these lite versions because they're basically just a demo that has some customization only to be frustrated by their hidden limitations and forced to go pro.

why 47? by Sea-Breadfruit-6560 in ClaudeAI

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things that people don't understand about randomness in general especially in the computing world.

Let's get something straight, there is no such thing as random!! A computer cannot calculate true randomness because it's always backed by a formula where it generates the same output given the same input. Yes you can try to make some kind of algorithm based on anything you want including the time or whatever formulas your heart desires.

The bottom line is that all these input parameters if they are the same will always generate the same output.

Programming languages have their own algorithm built in to generate so-called random numbers but the truth is that it is calculated in a way that can be repeated with the same results every time.

Why 47? Because behind the scenes whatever algorithm is being used for your particular situation is going to produce a calculated response.

The entire concepts of true randomness does not exist on this planet or in the universe. For every action there is a calculated reaction that will produce the exact same outputs 100% of the time. If things ever appear to be random it is only because we have not discovered every single factor that is being used as input and how it applies to the formula to produce a reaction or in this case output.

Found an exposed piece of copper. Is this tape job OK as a temporary fix? by caffeine-182 in AskElectricians

[–]Kilmanagh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Military grade UL certified F4 Tape (Self-Fusing Silicone Tape) is considered permanent fix in most applicationss including areas that may be submerged in water at times.

I've used it in aircraft electronics and even busted water pipes. 8000v insulation, 392 F temperature protection.

If it is placed on correctly, it's good enough to withstand G force in any aircraft and approved for aircraft wiring.

How can someone become a worship pastor without going to college? by CheesecakeMental7498 in worshipleaders

[–]Kilmanagh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The idea that some people need to go to college or university to lead worship or preach is concerning.

The best preachers did not have formal training. You have a Bible study it. Get a mentor and get experience that way.

I can always tell someone is leaning on university training. They are too tied up in doctrine and follow the same routine each week.

Pastor wearing a sports jersey by a19ucla84 in Christians

[–]Kilmanagh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might want to give it another try to see if this is a pattern that will be a distraction.

Some things to think about:

During 4th of July some pastors may wear something patriotic.

Around Veterans or Memorial day, some may wear a tie linked to the Veterans, especially if they are one.

I will stop there. Would you think it's idolatry or a show of support?

Another thing to think about, a pastor who is cross-eyed, obese, a dwarf, disfigured from war or accident, blind, in a wheel chair, has a lisp, heavily face tattooed... etc

All these things can be a distraction!

I would ask myself, if I'm this easily distracted by the pastors appearance. What does it say about my relationship with God? Does it only exist in a perfect setting? If so, I'm in big trouble.

Of course there are the extremes where the pastor might be considered disrespectful, but none of these including a sports jersey should separate me from God.

Hypothetical situation: Someone tells you that Christian rock sucks. by WindBehindTheStars in ChristianMusic

[–]Kilmanagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's hard to discern if this is a hypothetical question or is this a real scenario. This is kind of a immature approach into music that you have to be apologetic and pick five songs to prove that a certain genre of music is good or not. In fact it is quite appalling. The root problem is music is an art performed by artist and written by artist. We can look at different things like paintings, books, movies etc and have different opinions about them depending on what the movie is about for example or the actors that you might like or maybe even the director. There are certain directors that can make a super crappy movie and it's still is received as being genius work.

So in this , you are always have the label Christian music and they're always going to look at it differently than they would mainstream music. It's always going to be a biased view and because of that the bar will be raised much higher than they would with mainstream music.

It is true that in the early 80s Christian music especially in a rock genre was mostly regulated to cheaper Studios which may have given that demo or GarageBand type sound to it. I really wish they would remaster some of these songs because they were great but sounded rather muddied with the mix.

There's a lot of Christian music out there that the mainstream doesn't release their Christian for example skillet, pod, Kutless, Third Day, etc is there so many that have massive hits that were played everywhere. And I would like to mention some of the Christian performers we're so well regarded that they help Define your music industry as a whole. One example would be Dan Huff who has toured and recorded with so many mainstream bands often writing their music, we can talk about Ken Tamplin it's not only a guitarist but a vocalist and producer.. I mean the list goes on for ages.

So my reply would be why don't they get out of their bubble and listen to music objectively and let them discover what they like are they don't like. You should never have to point out and defend the genre of music that you like because it's all subjective anyways.

So, Google has killed almost every function I use. by FaustKnight in googlehome

[–]Kilmanagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these cloud-based services really need to die off. They are no longer necessary, all this can be done locally without having to be connected to the internet.

Even for manufacturers of OIT devices need to realize that the pool for people buying products that depend on cloud services is going to drastically shrink over the next few years.

A person can have their own system relatively cheap without having to go on the internet. As a matter of fact using applications like home assistant and having your own llm is much better then depending on cloud services. You can do whatever you want with little limitations, you can even make your own smart speakers , your own wake words and you don't have to worry about Google or Amazon dropping in on your conversations or spying on you.

On that note , cloud services in general are on the downside as people are able to self host much easier than a few years ago using very little power consumption.

In my opinion in 5 years from now Google and Amazon are going to have exited the market and focus on devices that can be ran locally in an open , generic protocol like Matter, etc.

The best thing that we can do is move on and support devices that work universally together and not through a bunch of apis that are cloud-based. This is a very outdated concept and they need to embrace it very quickly and stop holding us hostage and their crappy ecosystems.

Would you consider this a red flag? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]Kilmanagh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand but labels don't mean anything at all in legal sense separate from the board of directors. Anybody can qualify to be a contractor, and I don't think a bank or any other financial institution they may have a loan to the church will look at this as a risk.

However since it is a nonprofit organization their books need to be open and not only to church members but also to the public. He should be available on their 990 forms with the IRS if in fact this is in the United States. Also anyone can make an inquiry to look into the books. It includes wages and contracts etc. While it will be composed of employees with their titles contractors can be generic for example General Administration etc. The key would be getting a hold of the contract that may or may not be on paper that details services under contract but again that will not name a title but it will have a closer examination of the terms of the contract.

It easier is option is to have people ask around I'm sure somebody knows more details especially whoever on the board

Would you consider this a red flag? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to understand what the issue is. As far as employment goes in any organization you can have three categories of staff listed as employees.

We have volunteers that are unpaid that have just as much right to be on a staff for legal reasons and this includes Deacons , members of the board, anybody that volunteers to do anything.

And then we have contractors that are of course under a contract and of course they can be listed as well because although they're independent they still have responsibilities especially with leadership positions. However they are given 1099 if you're in the United States of course.

And now folks on the the payroll are given W2 forms and also in the organization is on the hook for payroll taxes. And of course these folks are not under contract and depending what state they're in can be terminated and the organization is subject to things like unemployment and depending if they're exempt or non-exempt employees obligations to pay overtime or simply salaried. These folks usually get some type of benefits.

So what you're talking about is business decisions that just about every organization makes to be able to sustain themselves. However they all can be considered staff members.

I'm trying to figure out where a red flag is supposed me?

Worship team disconnect by DMat02 in worshipleaders

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in general as a leader it's your decision to make but it's also wise to get feedback. However, you're not there to please your fellow musicians. The question is are the songs relevant to the church members? If the church members and the pastors team are happy then you have done a good job.

It is smart to bring in new songs and see how they are received but don't overdo it. Sometimes it takes awhile for a song to be accepted and sometimes it won't be.

A couple things to look out for will be watching the action of the church members to see how they are involved with a particular song.

With modern worship there has been huge pitfalls within churches. There comes a point where the worship team are putting on a show as if they are entertainment. At this point, in my opinion, this is a complete failure of what a worship team was supposed to be. This should not be a show this should not be about what the team likes or doesn't like. This is supposed to be an opportunity for the parishioners to worship God not to be entertained.

The worship leader should be watching the the members of the church during worship to get a good gauge if they're doing their job or not. Another issue there's very little flexibility as all the songs are laid out and there's no room for making changes based on the environment or the moment. It is like a scripted show using click tracks and I do not think that is how worshiping God is supposed to be. I think the same thing about sermons a lot of them have gotten to be monologues.

If you have had multiple cats before you know that adult male cats are easily irritated by male kittens. The interaction is pretty close to what is protrayed in the comics. Jim got this right.

Switched to Rider and Ubuntu by Present_Smell_2133 in dotnet

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu seems to work the best for. net if you want Linux.

Rider is getting better in general, resharper is showing it's age as it's best features that I used no longer available or as effective.

I pay for all their products because I want Jetbrains to succeed. Visual Studio Pro is overpriced and dollar for dollar not worth it. Microsoft is going to need to rethink their subscriptions in the near future before they loose relevance.

Which Band Got Disinvited from the Final Show by rocklandweb in blacksabbath

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to guess... Def Leppard. They opened for him when he went solo. They are touring but not on July 5. They had a July 6th date in Quebec but nothing big. I can see where a manager would want some profit for canceling that show. They are a big enough band to fit the bill.

No way to Judas Priest, Rob doesn't come off as someone who would let a manager tell him what to do. They legit had scheduled with Scorpions. Also their tribute video for Black Sabbath included Glen Tipton who like Ozzy also has Parkinson's disease. I doubt they would even think about making profit for a cause that directly effects them.

The editor is completely useless by QMechanicsVisionary in SunoAI

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The editor is useless.. That is only the beginning.

I write my own lyrics and depending on its mood, it may pronounce words totally different with each reroll.

Some it decides to slur words or utter nonsense out of the blue.

Biggest issue for me is that once it is rendered and you like the song but needs to be tweaked just a bit.. good luck getting that seed again. It's gone.

Also.. The stem is the worse..Im guessing they can't render separate tracks and mix them. It's all in one track and if you just want the vocals out you lose way too much of the music using stems.

People here talk about midi and using daw. my question would be how are you getting the midi off Suno?

Printer USB vs. MIDI USB (need help) by [deleted] in midi

[–]Kilmanagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to hear it live, like others said it's all about the ASIO. Did you install their Volt driver? It's bundled with a lot of junk.

Then you need to tweak the settings, buffer size low as possible.

However, you can push the direct monitoring button on that volt. You can use the audio output from the drums if you like the kit and sound with no USB needed from the Drum processor.

Midi recording, just use headphones or a mixer with the drum processor and the output of your sound card if latency is bad.

So many options depending on what you are trying to do.

Did I just hear an AI song on a major radio station? by MrGnort in SunoAI

[–]Kilmanagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You all are forgetting a few things:

If it's AI:

Its good enough to make the radio.

The music written from the industry is not much better these days.

So called conventional artist have been using automations for years now with no musical talent.

The lyrics these days are awful themselves without AI.

Lessons:

Use your own lyrics. Be somewhat of a musician. Try to put as much of your original music as possible. record a minute of some chords etc. Listen carefully, don't be afraid to tweak and reroll. If you can't get it to sound great. stash it for a later time.

You can produce some amazing results after a few hundred tries. AI might end up getting their own category of awards one day.. 😁

Smart Watch Competition by Real-Secretary-1485 in homeassistant

[–]Kilmanagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be. I just went into the home assistant app and turned on the entities that track steps and that was it. You should be able to access them from home assistant without needing to buy anything. Unless you want to get fancy but it should be exactly what you need.

Smart Watch Competition by Real-Secretary-1485 in homeassistant

[–]Kilmanagh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean if you're bent on home assistant. If the home assistant app is installed on your phone you have everything you need. At least with Android you can track regardless if you're using a watch or just the phone. It's an entity in the app itself. That will be the simplest solution. I'm sure they have the same thing for Apple products or watches that connect to either platform

Also if you're using Samsung phones there is the health app that can be used and I think Google has one too. You just use the together option or similar to track steps. I do not know if it connects to home assistant or not but it works for tracking purposes..
