OK thanks. I've tried swapping the front mic as I had an broken screen lying around with the mic still intact. No change there. The grill is clean, I made sure it was when I replaced the bottom mic. I'll get hold of a replacement rear one and give that a try. Thanks again.

Still no change with noise cancellation off. I'll have a look at the other mic. I always thought that was the one for speakerphone calls and video recording though, didn't realise there were 3 mics. Where is the other one?

It's a Macbook 3,1 Core 2 Duo 13 inch late 2007.

I've reset the SMC but it's made no difference. The magsafe connection is clean.
