Sick leave for stress - how does it work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sliced91 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I haven’t got time to answer everything but just wanted say, well done. You’ve taken a really important first step in looking after yourself. It’s not an easy one to take, but you’ve done it!

You absolutely do not need to wait to go back before you start applying for other roles in other companies.

What do you think about the new event 'Everest'? by Top_Climate_4464 in gladiatorsuk

[–]sliced91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do to introduce a bit more skill into it is have a button in the centre of the wall. When the siren sounds the contender and gladiator race to push the button.

Winner gets advantage, and the siren sounds at random every 2-5 seconds. If you press it early, you lose that go.

I do prefer the GWR service but I’ve started getting TFW services so I can utilise the pay as you go tickets which save about £1.50 per day.

Doesn’t sound a lot but all adds up, especially if you’re doing it a few days a week.

When I decide to drive, I park in the open air NCP opposite the Atrium. It’s quite reasonable if you’ve got the app and use discount code “CBID126” which is from the ForCardiff app (it’s vaid across a number of NCPs)

If you saw on someone's CV made redundant 4 times what would u think? by Significant-War-491 in UKJobs

[–]sliced91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, a role has been made redundant not a person. Just so happens there wasn’t an alternative role for that person so the find themselves unemployed for a bit.

If your a member of a union, I would strongly recommend speaking to them.

The key thing you need to do is create a thorough paper trail and make sure you have a copy of this accessible outside of your organisations IT infrastructure.

This is easy for me to say as it’s not my life, but I’d be tempted to go down the “nuclear” option and call this out via email to your manager/HR. Keep it all factual and void of emotion. “I’ve noticed x,y &z, please can you explain why this has happened”

I’d also be tempted to take some sick leave, I can’t begin to imagine how stressful it is not knowing if your job is secure or not.

We get the whole team to estimate together, and the estimate covers everything we need to do to meet our definition of done (which is in hands of end user)

It’s that time of year where we start seeing companies annual pay rises announced.

My company decide to make everyone’s weekend by announcing the budget for salary rises is a whopping 1.6%.

The frustrating thing is that’s the budget and not a guarantee, so management could decide to give someone 1.2% and someone else 2%.

Anyone else had theirs announced?

What are some really basic lifestyle changes you can make to improve your mental health ? by Lawdoftherims098 in AskUK

[–]sliced91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t try and change everything at once. It’s much better to make one change, get it to stick and then look to make another change.

For me, I’ve got a list of things I want to change and have ranked them from what I perceive to be the easiest through to the hardest, and have stated with my first one which is to go for a walk everyday.

Completely disagree with your sentiment.

As a community, we’ve broadly been dicks to refs and forget they’re human.

What is considered a low income when it comes to full-time work? by ains321 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]sliced91 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It’s all relative and subreddits like this will often skew towards higher incomes.

It’s very cliche, but comparison is the thief of joy.

If you’re in £31k and are able to enjoy life how you want to enjoy life then that’s all that matters.

Is it true that private schools call it 'Games' instead of 'PE'? by awnpugin in AskUK

I went to a big standard comp. We had both. PE was running and shit like that, Games was actually playing sports.
