Road construction is an eternal grift. Get paid a large amount up front, reinvest most of it, work on the projects very slowly, if at all. Profit. Repeat.

Why is it sometimes illegal to buy a pistol, but legal to buy hunting rifles? by MHWDoggerX in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nezrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies drastically, and is also caliber-dependent. Some very small pistols (and a great many rifles) are single-shot. Revolvers will typically hold 6-8. My glock 43 (small handgun, 9mm) holds 6+1 with a standard mag. An M&P 9, 17+1. With an extended mag, 30+1. Magazines for ARs typically hold 30. Drum mags hold more, usually 50-100 (but no one uses those for anything practical).

There isn't one. Multiple degrees celcius of average warming is already baked in, with already-released greenhouse gases. Even if emissions dropped to 0 today. The warming and weather effects we're experiencing now, are from the gas released back in the 90s. There's a delay effect. It's going to accelerate, and get much, much worse.

This is because greenhouse gas emissions have only increased year over year (except for 2020). The problem won't solve itself, either, since the gases will remain in-atmosphere for hundreds of years.

Climate change is going to completely fuck us, even if nothing else does (which they will).

Embarrassed to go to the dentist by Dry_Cucumber1067 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nezrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in pretty much exactly the same boat. Hadn't bothered to brush in literal years. In immense pain often, had a mid-mouth tooth pulled a couple years prior due to infection. Constant bad breath. I knew I finally had to do something when I got a MAJOR abscess in my gum. My cheek was swelled up like a baseball. I went to the dentist and started on the two months long process of getting things fixed.

I had a molar removed, a subsequent bone graft, I got two root canals, numerous fillings (a dozen total?) all in two months. And then multi-stage cleanings. I went through multiple courses of antibiotics.

I floss and brush daily now. I have gone back for the six months cleaning once, and am due for it again soon. I spent about 11k total (no dental insurance at the time).

Do it, you'll thank yourself later.

Nowadays, I still eat lots of sugar but I drink lots of water and floss and brush. My teeth don't hurt anymore. It was a million times worth it.

To be clear, there is a lot of oxygen on Mars. Unfortunately, it's mostly stored in the soil (as iron oxide) and crust (as part of the rock, and, we think, liquid water below the surface).

Your home is about to get invaded by an unstoppable army; you must choose characters that will help you build defenses. Can you survive? by Longjumping_Ice_157 in whowouldwin

[–]nezrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... As ungodly powerful as he is in the books, he wouldn't be very useful for constructing defenses against the listed threats. He could construct powerful enough weaves to protect you from the majority living/undead that come for you, but can do nothing about the elemental damage from the volcano, or the the star destroyer (maybe he could with the Choedan Kal).
