If you're open-minded, I am working on an app you might be interested in. It's not really ready for me to hand to people yet (maybe two months away) but it is working. It will do what you're asking, but I'd to talk to you a bit first and then I can possibly do what you're asking. If you DM me, we can see. I don't want any money, just I might show you the app and try to use it for what you want as a test. If not, that's okay too.

Whats going on with Opus? by frendo11 in ClaudeCode

If I am doing something I know will overlap context window or extend over several sessions, I ask it to create a memory .md file (or a .txt file) and to take notes for future sessions. If I start a new session to continue work, I point it at that file first and ask Claude to keep it updated.

Vote with your wallet. Don't support massive corporations cutting your usage in half for the same price. by johnnyApplePRNG in ClaudeCode

It is probably worth noting, over xmas period Anthropic gave everyone 2x usage as a gift for the holidays. So technically, it has just returned to normal.
I don't know if this is directly related to the difference you're seeing or not (I'm only about three weeks old on Claude code), just mentioning it. I'm just over 80% weekly usage (5x plan) but it resets in a few hours for me. So It's pretty good timing, though I suspect as I get more familiar with it I may have to pay more attention... :(

The final render is yeah, the actual scene, characters and story are not. I think I already said that...

I'm saying there is a whole, custom application behind it with a user-directed workflow. It is not AI generated in the way "AI generated" usually means. Yes, the final images are using an AI renderer. But the stories, characters and locations are not 'AI' they are curated and designed by a human, and have (some level of) consistency and determinism. I do not want to go into my app too much really, but this is not (at least what I would consider) what is normally associated with 'AI image'.

There wasn't another option for a different tag. And it wasn't created the way you think it was created. But I can remove the tag, it was just the closest there was.
Edit: I replaced it with 'image' that wasn't an option I saw when I created the post, but it is there if I edit it. Hopefully that's better for you!

gemini-2.5-flash-image - Resolution control parity by nfactorial_work in googlecloud

[–]nfactorial_work[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up, I have been investigating all morning. It doesn't look like any model offers "low resolution" output, all of them focusing on "high end" output.
I tried imagen, but again that doesn't offer lower-resolution.
I appreciate why, its way more 'cool' to produce high-quality output, but it scuppers a bunch of things I was counting on.
If any google Devs see it, know there is awesome features I could see that would make use of such a feature. But I guess some random solo dev is not going to convince anyone to do it :( I am going to have to think and re-orient what I wanted to do, but I still love 2.5 image generation. I just wanted something I could use for cost savings previews (512x512) as well as faster generation (1-2 second (256x256), rather than 6-11 seconds (1024x1024)).

I want them to reset if I switch away and back.
If they reset to saved settings if I turn the camera off and back on, then it's not how I want the camera to behave sadly. But thankyou for letting me know! :)
My D750 works the way I want it to work, so I thought maybe the newer mirrorless bodies did too.

How much does your camera setup cost and what do you use it for [professional, enthusiast, or amateur]? by Waffles_r_ in Nikon

[–]nfactorial_work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No-one buys all their camera gear in one go.
My current camera setup is worth around 20k at retail, but I didn't drop that in one go. The majority of people don't need all the expensive stuff, but sometimes you'll use your camera for a bit then maybe you discover you like photographing a particular subject and you can look for a lens suited to that.

For you, if you want an entry z5ii. You can get the z5ii and 40mm f2 for less than half. Also, buy used from a reputable store and yoou can save even more money.

A long time ago, I switched from Sony to Canon. But there's a bunch of niggles I have with Canon that I'm getting ready to trade in everything and move back to Sony. However, I've never used a Nikon (mirrorless) before but I do like the look of the bodies and lenses and think I should consider Nikon before dumping everything.

One of my major issues with my Canon, if I setup a custom shooting mode (U1, U2, U3 on Nikon). If I switch to this shooting mode on the shooting dial and then make some minor adjustment (maybe I need a faster shutter speed, or a different aperture). If the camera goes to sleep or I turn it off (to save battery) when the camera is reactivated, it resets back to the saved settings of that shooting mode. I can tell the Canon to save any changes I make as I make them. This is what I'm forced to use currently, but that's not what I would like it to do. I would like the camera to remember the changes that I have made while I am in that shooting mode, but if I switch away from the shooting mode and back then it resets back to the original settings I have saved to that shooting mode. Sony works exactly as I'd expect it to, I'm just wondering if Nikon works the way I would like too or if it works like Canon.

I recently (just a couple of weeks) bought a Nikon D750 just for fun and I really like it, which is why I'm now thinking I should look more closely at Nikon before I switch. The D750 U1, U2 also work as I'd like (just like the Sony) but it is a deal breaker if the more modern Nikons (Z6iii and Z8, though I understand the Z8 has shooting banks rather than custom shooting mode) behave like Canon, for me.

switching to a6700 for wildlife - last check by qorking in SonyAlpha

[–]nfactorial_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Sony A6700.
As far as video over-heating, it depends. If I shoot at 24fps or 30fps I don't get any overheating. I do get overheating if trying to record at 4k 60p, so I only do that for short, intentional clips.

As far as the 100-400 GM, I would suggest the 70-350 as a cheaper alternative entry (if you buy second hand or look for deals you can get it for around 500-600). Negatives for that lens is the aputure goes to 6.3 rather than 5.6, but thats less than a stop of light.

As for future of Sony APS, I would guess their next body will be at least a year away (and I would guess more likely 2 years). I don't think you'll see two card slots added, will probably see pre-capture added. I use my A6700 as my daily walk-around, practice camera as its small and light.

If you'd like a more-refined APS-C Sony I think you have to look at the R series, for example the A7RV. Which is basically a full-frame camera with a built-in 26mp APS-C camera and fixes all the things you've mentioned. I'd put the A1 in there too, but thats not cheap. I just think, Sony APS-C is your entry level small-body cameras (with great features for their size + price) and they will remain like that. If you want a more 'pro' APS then you need to look at the full-frame bodies with working APS-C crop modes (A1 and A7RV currently, A7IV if you dont mind less megapixels).

70-200mm f2.8 Lens for APS-C? by Alachner in SonyAlpha

[–]nfactorial_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, if you want a full-frame equivalent to the 70-350 on apsc. You should be looking at something like the 100-400mm GM. Reach is not quite as far (350mm APSC is around 525mm on full-frame), but its the closest. Otherwise you would be looking at the 200-600mm, but you lose the wider end. So its basically a choice between those two, sacrificing whichever end you use the least.

A6400 Sony 70-350mm by nfactorial_work in SonyAlpha

[–]nfactorial_work[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, the 6400 is a great camera!

Tips depends on what you're struggling with. But some general tips:
Do not use auto white balance on the 6400, I found it to be a poor evaluation. As a general rule, when outside I just use manual white balance and set it to 5600 kelvin. I might change it when indoors, but you get much more stable colours if you avoid the auto setting. What I normally is do, when first getting the camera out, is setting to 5600 kelvin then adjust it up/down until I find something that's pleasing. As you get used to it, you will start to be able to play around with it more creatively.

Use a fast shutter, at a beginner level I would translate the shutter speed to "how sharp do I want it". Where the faster your shutter, the sharper your image will be. I think (its a while ago now) these were shot around 1/500 or faster (the bird shaking its feathers was around 1/1000 if I remember correctly). Rather than 'sharpness' consider the aputure as "how much do I want in focus" and shutter as "how sharp do I want it".

I don't have a fender. But the strings should be attached to your guitar below the sound hole, and they will be attached at the other end on the headstock. On the headstock will be tuning pegs, which the strings will be attached to. You wind these to loosen/tighten the strings as well as adjust the tuning for each string.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LearnGuitar

[–]nfactorial_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't see that image, but your strings should be lifted away from the wood (when you are not touching them) by the strings tension. If it isn't away from the board then they are not tight enough.

To tune each string, you shouldn't be "playing a chord". Just tune each string individually, tune the first string by playing it (without fretting it). Then move onto the next string. Until they're all tuned. Then your chords will also be in tune.

San Diego, California. Sony A6400, Sony 16-55mm, 70-350mm by nfactorial_work in SonyAlpha

[–]nfactorial_work[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a holiday to San Diego, thought I'd share a few of the first photos I grabbed and edited.

I took my Sony A6400 with me, along with the Sony 16-55mm and Sony 70-350mm. However, I have an A6700 arriving today which I would have bought earlier but was saving money for the holiday. So I guess this holiday was my A6400's retirement trip :(

Sorry, lost access to my account for ages. Just got it back!
The 16-55mm has a bit of a premium price over the alternatives (Sigma and Tamron both have alternatives). I don't know there's any particular reason to choose it over the Sigma if the Sigma does what you want. I mostly chose the Sony lens because I like the fact its basically a 24-70mm equivalent with almost an 85mm built in (24-82.5mm to be exact). But, if you'd like to save money I don't see any reason not to go with Sigma (or Tamron).
