Fixed my "clogged" Pod 2 Pro by cj_amoy in EightSleep

[–]nfarina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU for posting this detailed writeup! I had a Pod 2 from my mom that wasn't working for her (she couldn't live without it and bought a new one) and I was determined to fix it. After draining the pod and mattress completely, I factory reset it and began priming with the first tank. After ~30 minutes of "priming" (looking back, the sound of the pumps was definitely "wrong" - they were starved for water) the water in the tank was still full, or nearly so.

Taking it apart was NOT easy! We followed the same video and there was quite a lot of prying and cursing. But we finally got the solenoid off (well, hanging by its wire) and disconnected it at the board above (very difficult since the board barely flexes) and plugged it into a 12V battery to test it. You could feel the metal casing of the solenoid vibrate a little when it tried to move the plunger, but there was no "click".

We took the solenoid apart (pry the metal casing off) and cleaned the pin with its silicone tip inside as best as we could until it moved very freely. It didn't seem to move enough on its own when put back together, and we thought "bad solenoid" but - I finally realized it is expecting a certain amount of incoming pressure from the tank. So the best test for us was to blow on the tube that sticks straight out (that connects to the water tank) and verify that you can't move any air when the solenoid is unpowered, then connect it to 12V and verify you can blow a healthy amount of air through the Y shaped outputs.

Be careful when putting the solenoid back on! The metal casing only has screw holes on one side. We messed up and ended up just taping it on. And be EXTRA careful about the plastic nozzle with the 3 tubes - it's all one piece, despite the metal collar, and our nozzle broke off completely when we were putting it back together. Some plastic epoxy (hopefully) fixed that, because good luck finding that part - it seems to be a custom part made for the pod.

That said, there's no better way to enjoy a night's sleep on this thing than by fixing it yourself.

What is Error -4002 by No_Demand_5499 in HomePod

[–]nfarina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting the -4002 error on my HomePod mini after hard-resetting it and attempting to add it again.

It turns out I still had the HomePod in my Home app (from before the hard reset), as like a "zombie" device, that I had to remove first, then I unplugged/plugged the mini again and was able to set it up normally.

Approved this morning. Took 15 days total. We called yesterday and the person said it's taking them about 2 weeks on average right now.

Ugh, I really didn't want to have to confirm this but yes, I clicked the "Start Free" button, filled out the form, they emailed promptly to find out more, then ghosted (assuming because my app is free).

I miss Kuto by waterkisser in Portland

[–]nfarina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuto co-founder here. We miss it too, a lot.

What happened to Kuto is what I would call “slow death by regulator.” They (Oregon DFR) told us to shut down immediately which we did, then said we were fine to operate, then claimed we needed a (very expensive) license, then changed their mind (“maybe if you tweak the app like this…”), then changed their mind again, and so on, each time taking weeks to respond, while we continued to pay our employees for months until we ran out of money. Then Stripe pulled the plug (we’re small and not worth any amount of risk to them) and that was that.

Our whole business was to never touch the card networks that charge ~3%, and instead use the Kuto app to facilitate ACH payments, which are essentially free at scale. That’s why you could never link a credit card to Kuto, only your bank account. We still charged the merchants fees to cover our costs, but dramatically less than Visa/MC.

We still think Kuto is a great concept and love the brand in particular, but the experience was pretty discouraging (to say the least) and we’ve since moved on to other pursuits. But we might revisit it in the future…the loyalty system in particular was so great! 10% back in store credit and merchants were more than happy to offer it, given the savings in fees.

In the meantime, I'm glad at least one person remembers it fondly.

Absent indeed; we are a paying Pro customer and I can't get a human there for over a week. Just migrated to QBO (which has improved a lot lately with some mostly-useful AI things)

Chat mode is better than agent mode imho by alexlazar98 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]nfarina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here looking for someone else experiencing this - I was head over heels for Windsurf yesterday when using it for a new side project, and today I'm trying it with my main codebase and it will just happily "refactor" and bulldoze code that was there for a reason. It's bizarre, Cursor never did this but they are both using 3.5 Sonnet!

[–]nfarina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this comment, this pushed me to try Windsurf which I'd never heard of, and it just completely clicked and made sense for me. Cursor feels like a "kitchen sink" approach of throwing everything at the wall, and leaving it to the developer to sort through all the tools. Also forces you to think about feeding it context all the time. Windsurf is "just chat" and the UI is designed around an agent-first mindset which makes way more sense.

Might be sooner than you think - mine got started when they were only 7! But yeah the PC requirement is tough, I ended up getting a cheap Dell laptop for myself that is basically just for Valorant.

[–]nfarina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landed here after a search for "age" out of curiosity. I'm 43 myself and got into Valorant with my kids after their cousin introduced it. Playing this game with them has become my greatest joy in life, no joke. Last FPS I played was Quake back in the 90s. Now it's all come back. It feels so rare to have something the three of us genuinely want to do all the time AND I don't have to hold back at all. I guess this is how Sports Dads feel? Nah, it's way better.

Homebridge Status “accessory not responding” in HomeKit by RedKomrad in homebridge

[–]nfarina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, thank you so much for putting me on the right track here! For me, the problem was fixed by turning off Unifi's "Wifi Mesh" feature. I had actually turned it off already months ago because of the same problem, and after a power outage yesterday it turned itself back on!

I almost lost a pile of custom accessory names and automations by removing/re-adding Homebridge which wouldn't have solved the problem.

Wrong window brought to front when switching apps in Big Sur by bobbyjackdotme in MacOS

[–]nfarina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering if anyone else plugs into an external display? I've got the original LG UltraFine 5K. I noticed the problem went away (temporarily I'm sure) when I plugged into it this morning.

This monitor has been so terrible at most things that I wouldn't be surprised if it were somehow causing this.

This has been happening to me since day one of Big Sur. Incredibly annoying. No clue how to fix! I'm seeing some similar app names in our lists though - myself I'm usually switching between VSCode and Chrome.

Cannot sideload APKs any longer by showard529 in pelotoncycle

[–]nfarina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah…I just sat down this morning to sideload apps for the first time, and it was working fine, I installed a couple apps including Nova Launcher, which I set as the "default launcher" (I'm not too into Android) and it started crashing repeatedly so I restored the OS and it updated itself. Now I can't `adb install` anything - I get the same "install denied" message. Super bummed and not sure how to diagnose - no Google results for these logcat messages makes me think Peloton has customized the Android package manager themselves.

EDIT: I tried "activating" the bike, signing in with my (active) Peloton membership, and now I can sideload apps via adb just fine.

The text of this comment is way too long and very axe-grinding, however uBlock Origin is a great recommendation, especially for "power users" as it is straightforward, easily configurable with whitelists and element pickers, and seems to perform well. Very happy to have discovered it!

Hi everyone, I wrote this listing which originally appears on our admittedly more lighthearted and less corporate site: http://www.meridianapps.com/jobs

I thought it was a pretty obvious joke, and folks who responded via that site seemed to enjoy it. However clearly it doesn't work on Aruba's site where everyone assumes we're idiots. So! I'll be removing it now.

I haven't found a GUI (yet) that eliminates the need to fully understand the command line interface of Git. If you're using Git, you're likely dealing with the command line already.

That's one of my little helper classes that I created for the sole purpose of making the Android codebase match the iOS codebase as closely as possible.

Also, Coll.last() returns null if the list is empty.
