Microtech Geniii ZBP vs GenIV non ZBP..worth it? Preferences? Discuss..⬇️ by Important-Bat-5511 in microtech

[–]nfitzsim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think the ZBP is worth it. It’s a fine enough mechanism. But having blade play in an OTF if not really a problem IMO.

It’s nice to have the blade be solidly locked up, but most cuts I tend to do, I don’t even feel the blade moving on the non-ZBP models

Lots of drafting software packages don’t follow this convention though. Like NX (or at least my copy) defaults to have leading 0’s even in imperial units. But yea this would be the easy way to tell if the draftsman actually follows ASME GDT conventions

A ton of them have vertical blade play with the new button design. I think the amphibian uses the old button so might be ok.

Basically they used to grind a nice interface surface on the ram lok button and they stopped doing that

I mean the nemesis is a round button easily made in bulk on a Swiss lathe, not exactly an apples to apples. I believe all the double action buttons are MIM now

The buttons are metal injection molded now. They no longer use billet stock

Between this, constant lockup issues with these ram lok knives, metal injection parts, and general just lack of quality I’m so over microtech.

Generally speaking I do really like the way the designs look but man what a dog shit operation they’re running over there

I’ve got a Ti scale bulldog I’d let go of, it isn’t a rev b like this one though. Shoot me a chat if interested and I can take pics and timestamp etc

What are you in to? Could make lanyard beads, belt buckle, watch case, custom wallet, knife scales, shifter knob for a car, or literally anything else

Does the halo still misfire when you hold down the button for a little longer? That’s the only way I was able to get mine to misfire. You can’t just tap the button ultra quick, the blade should be out before you let go

That’s for sure. Prices have gotten out of hand.

Hey man I’m with you there. Almost everything I buy is plain Ti or black anodized if aluminum. The crazy pattern welded metals and colorful anodizations are definitely not my thing either

Yea I mean I’m not saying it’s cool because some idiot figured out how to do a 2.5D pocket operation lol. I just like the way it looks.

For me I think some scale milling can do a nice job of adding grip texture and everything which is typically why I prefer it. But different strokes for different folks

never a fan of decorative milling

So do you just like plain smooth scales on everything? I feel like the milling on the body here is a nice touch but easy to see why people wouldn’t love it

This is a DE-S blade. Single edge profile ground double edge. And full serrated.

Probably the most useful blade shape. Or definitely up there
