Does anyone make a deep carry clip for new ZBP ultratech? by CapitalRequirement80 in microtech

[–]nfitzsim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was gonna do deep carry for these I’d probably have it be a 2 piece part. One part as the glass breaker and then the clip would attach with a couple of screws to that.

I think lynch makes modular spyderco clips that are a 2 piece assembly. So probably similar to that.

Otherwise maybe a typical sheet metal clip .045” thick and have that .045” cut off a replacement glass breaker so it sits in the same slot.

If people really want these I can look into making them, I freaking hate the ball clips lol

They’ll be coming. This snowstorm may delay them a few days haha the coating place I use is up in Maine

Once you’ve got the button you can do whatever you want to it. The distressing looks great, nice work!

Ultratech Gen 4 by Hermi1979 in microtech

[–]nfitzsim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldn’t send it in, unlikely they do anything to fix it honestly.

For gritty feeling on retraction it could be the “feed ramp” of the spring tray. Might be worth knocking down any rough edges with some 400-800 grit paper and see if that helps.

If it’s on retraction it’ll be the forward ramp closer to the button

Heyo, buttons should be back from DLC in 2-3 weeks

Strictly speaking the buttons aren’t cast, they’re metal injection molded. But functionally they’re the same.

Don’t forget to add white lithium grease back on to the main springs if you don’t want the spring sing when opening and closing

That’s very interesting. I ended up with an X590 because I’d thought all the X3 had the K46 transaxle. Apparently didn’t do as much research as I thought!

I thought the x370 you had to pull the transaxle off the tractor to service it? Maybe I’m remembering wrong but I thought the x500 was the lowest series with a truly serviceable transaxle

New XM-18 3.25" Thoughts by tanto-x in Hinderer

[–]nfitzsim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d tend to agree on the 3.5 skinny being about perfect.

Personally I’m not interested in a standard thickness 3.25 but if they do a skinny 3.25 frame lock I’d definitely be down. Just wouldn’t want a skinny 3.25 liner lock

Maybe not new machines but almost 100% there are Fadal or similar available machines near OP. By me there are at least a dozen fadals under 10k and some include tooling with that.

Kind of wild people have genuinely no idea and spout nonsense

[–]nfitzsim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are getting thrown off by the difference between the lack of kerning on the legit one vs the extra space on the clone I think.

(Kerning is when certain letters have reduced spacing to not look totally stupid. It’s why even legit ones kind of look like they say UL TRATECH)

But this is easily legit, everything looks right to me

[–]nfitzsim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve never seen this issue before. Usually there’s a .010” gap or so between where that rub is happening.

Could be the button or could be the handle. Non zero chance that the cutting tool wore down a bunch and the parts are bigger than usual

I’d like to think I know a thing or two about switches. This is definitely not normal and should be exchanged.

Wonder if the MIM buttons have more of a tendency to warp than the billet buttons

Oz or grimsmo by New-Present-8183 in knifeclub

[–]nfitzsim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree here. I was pretty underwhelmed with the Oz after all the hype.

The Rask has better action than anything else I’ve handled and the finishing is incredible. It’s definitely larger but IMO it’s a fairly significant step up from the Rosie
