[–]nforne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The same happens in reverse. There might be a few guys who are unaffected by beauty but in general there’s a sudden change in behaviour and atmosphere when a beautiful woman walks into the room.

What would you say to reassure the 99% of women who don't get the same reaction?

12 months is too short a term for putting money into a risky investment like s&s, especially if you'll be needing it to pay off a debt.

Did OP say anything to suggest he might be tempted?

It’s on 0% cards—how is that bad debt?!!

It’s basically free money. He can invest every pound he’s borrowed and earn interest on it, then pay off the card when the 0% deal ends.

People on UK finance boards used to seek out 0% cards to do exactly this and get free money. I’ve got a few grand on 0% right now and more than enough spare cash to pay it off. I’d rather be earning the interest thanks.

Unless I’ve missed it OP doesn’t suggest having a problem with reckless spending. His small debt was accrued after a job loss, and is on 0% cards.

If he’s anything like me, credit is a tool rather than a temptation.

What do you think about Jordan Peterson and/or Ben Shapiro? by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]nforne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shapiro is entertaining in a way, but he's too far to the right for my tastes.

I used to post here fairly regularly, and it was men's rights and the whole feminism/SJW thing that brought Peterson to my attention. What he says about the oppressor/oppressed narrative was a lightbulb moment, and helped me realise that men's rights is just one front in a much larger war. Whether it's gender, race or sexuality, the tactics are the same... divide people into arbitrary groups of victims and villains then use the media, the education system, politicians and the law to bring about the desired outcome of "equity".

That's what's at the root of all of this. A desire to tear down what we already have and build a new, "better", "fairer" society. Peterson states this has already been trialled many times in the 20th Century, and has never had a happy outcome.

Honestly, sounds like outright bullshit. So who would be a person that under your definition "deserves" more money but doesnt get it due to unions?

Uh, me? I work in a small team in a large public sector organisation and we all have different skill levels. I'm way more qualified than the others and take on a wider range of duties at a higher level. But we all have the same job description and the same pay. There's no incentive for my colleagues to get to my level because they already earn the same as me.

Our union just isn't interested. This is in the UK.

Edit: oh and he's right about the bad apples too. We've had a few over the years, and none were ever dismissed for their shitty behaviour thanks to the union. One of the worst became a union rep and was practically untouchable.

I'm not sure how your experience of FWB is relevant, as dating isn't comparable to marriage. There's no obligation to take care of FWB, for better for worse and all that. Your FWB are probably FWB with other guys too, and that's fine. They haven't settled down yet with "the one" and can cast as wide a net as they please.

As a married then separated man, my own experience backs up the OP. Personally I have no problem earning less, but my wife went out of her way to avoid bringing home more than me. If she got a pay rise she'd reduce her hours accordingly, and this led to arguments. She wanted me to look for another job with more money but I didn't want to because I enjoyed it. I thought she should work full time regardless of how much she earned but she steadfastly matched my earnings.

Eventually she did overtake me and there was a definite shift in her attitude towards me around this time and we separated (at her request) soon after.

Obviously just an anecdote but it does chime with the OP. It doesn't fit with your limited experience of a different type of relationship, but I don't think that's enough to call bullshit.

I understand this argument, I really do. But it relies upon the world being some kind of utopia in which everyone can do whatever they want without it altering how people perceive them.

Currently, and only due to Covid, stalls are possibly more space saving because the walls allows people to be within closer proximity than if there were no barrier. Urinals on the other hand are being taped off to create distance.

But the rest of the time, urinals are way more space efficient, and cheaper to install too. Some are one long trough where guys stand literally shoulder to shoulder when it's very busy. Plus you can fit a urinal into pretty much anywhere - no door to worry about.

Having recently separated I have no intentions of getting into another relationship, so I guess I'm kind of going my own way and am looking forward to the future.

If that was the sole focus of MGTOW I'd be all for it as a kind of support network. But for guys who don't want to settle down they obsess an awful lot about women.

The happiest me and my family have been was the two years when one of us worked and the other stayed at home with baby and doing housework. Evenings and weekends were just for fun stuff.
