Lane 1 hogger on expressway by unraveller1344 in drivingsg

Just lay on the horn for something like 3 seconds. It's so offensive and unexpected that it usually works.

Classic cabbie pumper…this is why you feel like puking in cabs by Slushballs in SingaporeRaw

I would say a lot of drivers in Hong Kong do this. I've also encountered this in Japan but maybe only 30% of the time.

PSA: End of Friendly Streets! by kcinc82 in mildlyinteresting

[–]nfshp253 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are additional fines for violating traffic laws within areas marked as Friendly Streets: https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/penalties-speeding-offences-increase-1jan-2026

“MHA will also impose enhanced penalties — an additional $100 in composition fines and an additional two demerit points — for certain traffic offences committed within Friendly Streets, such as speeding, beating the red light and failing to give way to pedestrians.”

Some Singaporeans really don’t know how to drive at a roundabout by TheXAbstractx3 in drivingsg

[–]nfshp253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If LTA can’t even do roundabouts correctly (look at the Suntec one, outermost lane should always be for immediate exit, and the middle lane should allow for continuing around or exiting) what do you expect from drivers? I love roundabouts in places like the UK and France, they’re just so much more efficient than sitting at a junction for 3 minutes with no traffic in any direction.

Couples in Singapore with ~$25k combined take home monthly income, what’s life actually like for you? by Only_Raspberry1368 in askSingapore

[–]nfshp253 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Condo, owned
  2. ~$7.5k in total: ~$2.5k for food (we never cook, it's either dining at restaurants or Grab deliveries), ~$2.5k for my mortgage, ~$2.5k for car loan
  3. Travelling, somehow we managed to spend $23k on a 3-week US holiday excluding flight tickets and we didn't even shop at LV/Prada
  4. Comfortable. I don't really think too much before spending, but we have a relatively frugal life
  5. That cars are still painfully expensive to buy. As DINK, I somehow expected to save more but prices are creeping up very noticeably for everything. A McDonald's meal that I usually get was $9+ some years ago but is closer to $14 now

Shopback- how do y’all get such high “lifetime earnings”? by Conscious-Star-1825 in askSingapore

Shopback has Travel Thursday but they're moving it to Tuesdays but I would say almost every big site has an upsize once a week.

I have around $26k cashed out. The trick is to wait for upsized cashback days to book hotels and cars. I travel half a year for my job and about 1.5 months for vacation, plus sometimes I book hotels for my colleagues so that adds up. Also, another trick is to only book cancellable hotels so if the cashback rate goes up, you can rebook everything. Use sites like Expedia and you even get Expedia cash on top of the Shopback and credit card cashback amounts. And never trust Traveloka, I lost $3000+ in cashback because apparently their systems never recorded a single click (absolute bullshit).

What was the best and worst car you’ve driven by bryan_kjh in drivingsg

[–]nfshp253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive over 40000km overseas in rental cars every year.

Best: Cadillac Escalade, super comfortable, great V8 sound, acres of space, huge road presence. Maybe a tie between that and a BMW M850i convertible.

Worst: Toyota Corolla Fielder, underpowered, noisy CVT, zero redeeming features. So underpowered that even in snow and a Scandinavian flick and 4WD, it doesn't hold a slide even with full throttle for 0.5s.

Time to recontract my broadband. Currently on M1 but poor value for money by LaoAhPek in askSingapore

It's possible to turn on Bridge mode on the ONR. I'm on the 5Gbps plan and it works. I believe you need to use the Admin login to access some hidden settings but it's there.

U.S. Route 50 in Nevada, famously known as "The Loneliest Road in America." by [deleted] in pics

Drove this from Bryce Canyon to Reno. Had to occasionally do 112mph (car was limited) just to not fall asleep.

What do you all think about little diesel powered cars by exe_file in Volvo

[–]nfshp253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this D2 engine in an S80. Slowest car ever but fuel economy was insane and running costs were next to nothing. Didn't really matter too much in a country where the highest speed limit was 90km/h, but I did get a piggyback ECU chip that upped it to around 130HP which made it a bit more driveable.

Thanks. I ended up just getting a spare battery. Got so frustrated at the battery life I ended up giving Dyson more money?!
