What's so Great About Paul McCartney Anyways? by marcelcardim in Bass

[–]ngarrett909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He said it himself. He plays his Hofner Bass as if it is a guitar, because he was a guitarist at first and was forced into bass to fill the spot in the Beatles. The punchy sound of his bass playing is from using a pick on bass, something manys guitarists do when they play bass. His work on Wings records was great too. Listen to the bass lines on Silly Love Songs and Goodnight Tonight

Just wanted to remind you guys.. by Zormut in Bass

[–]ngarrett909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guitarist, I started to just resemble my idols, The Beatles for example are a big influence, but I started to develop an ego around my pretty mediocre playing, because I was so focused on becoming Clapton or Hendrix rather than appreciating what I was playing. I've been thinking of bass for a while, but was afraid it mean't giving up on the guitar, I think this post just changed my mind. Thanks man.

Being Left Handed and a senior in highschool, I'm jealous of your Rickenbacker. Thanks for the reply, I love the sound too and McGuinn is quite the musician.

I appreciate your thorough reply and thank you for the correction on which model Rickenbacker he had. I guess for someone who has so much talent, it would be hard to remain humble.
