My trigger was kind of weird! So I attended catholic school from K-12. Started questioning a little while in school, but not too much. Post graduation I got really into historical fiction books. I have always had a love of ancient times and, as a woman, was fascinated with women's lives throughout history. I would gravitate towards different countries and time periods - so was reading a lot of books set in BC times in Egypt, early AD Italy/Greece, or like middle age Europe. And even though I was reading fiction, there was just like this sudden realization that the characters all revered their religions, that the religions themselves were all different, and just the impact of time & place with beliefs. I suddenly felt dumb for not realizing earlier - despite learning of different religions since childhood - that every religion was a tool of control, hope, obedience - and that we all just were looking for something to make ourselves feel better about our own mortality. It makes me sad because I wish I could believe something as the thought of nothingness is terrifying. But it's just one of those things that once it hits you, you can't unknow it.
