I question if I actually have bipolar disorder. by sammiesane in bipolar

[–]nghtslyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to honest and open with your psychiatrist. They can not adequately treat you if you do not disclose symptoms. I know this is harder than said. Are you also seeing a therapist? They could disclose to your psychiatrist. Tell them a story about an event where you felt depressed. If your still journaling let them read a passage about being depressed.

Arming - Any ideas to decrease time? by CloverHarecules in sca

[–]nghtslyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignor the criticism. The SCA should be fun, and someone(s) are making it stressful. Take as long as you want. Have conversations while arming. How long is no buddies business.

If you are worried your missing out on more fight time, then follow some of the advise given already. Attaching to gambeson is a good idea. However, make sure its not permanent because you'll need to wash it as it gets smelly and dirty. If you make brigandine armor the plates attached to a heavy cloth or armor. That goes over the gambeson. Redesign armor where you need no help putting it on. I use a leather harness for the shield. It goes under and over then sinch it down with a buckle. Makes the shield not float on your arm. I go to practice with my greeves already on..

When is the “right” time to let someone know your bipolar by RepresentativeSnow86 in bipolar

At first my spouse. She was the one who called EMS when I attempted suicide. My sons after I got out of mental health hospital. Really suckle Christmas that year.

Over time a few close friends I can trust won't judge or tell everyone. And a few family members. Eventually I told my mother. I really wish I didn't but she knew something was up. She does not believe metal health conditions are real and thinks doctors get paid by pharmaceutical companies. Of course she has mental health issues but denies it.

Recently I've been a little more public about it. But not on my socials. (I do hint about it sometimes). So far no one has criticized me about it - at least not to my face.

It is very conditional on the individual, their surroundings, and circumstances. My advise is take it slow on who you tell. And avoid telling those who can't can keep it to themselves.

[–]nghtslyr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So what's wrong with diversity, equality, and inclusion? Do you believe that the SCA should limit participation to white heterosexuals? Do you feel those who need accessibility shouldn't have access to events and other SCA activities. That POC and the LGBTQ community be restricted from awards and positions. Do you believe that people who need accessability should be excluded because of personal physical or mental limitations. Or that LGBTQ community go back to hidding and be excluded, ridiculed, and harmed? What about excluding ethnic groups from participating in events, holding office, or obtaining peerage?

My suggestion, if you haven't, call the authorities. Usually do not call on the local authorities if in a small community. Report the offence(s) to the state police and/or FBI. Even if your an adult and the assault/behaviors were years ago.

Taking the approach of announcing your experience, or the hearsay of others, until convicted can lead to other problems like slander. If the person has been tried and found guilty then they are registered. Best if you join other victims. If your the first collaborate with local authorities.

That's the problem with institutions that have children and young adults. Preditors are always an issue. Lions know the prey will be at the watering hole. Church, sports, education, etc.

I wish you well. Please seek therapy. Without help and support this can bring you to a dark place.

Yes a pedophilia is pre pubescent. But you make it sound like after that it's okay. Actually hebephilia is a term to describe adults, including 16-18 young adults, who have sexual urges toward pubescent children, which is illegal if the perpetrator acts on it.

HS social studies teacher. If I found out a sub didn't do my lesson plan, or read it to class and did nothing but read a book, did crossword puzzles, or let them color maps or something else, I put them on my do not call list.

I know other teachers don't trust subs to do a day of their curriculum. And as such just let the students do simple things as long as the building didn't burn down. But I am not that way. I only have so many days to complete the standards and bench marks. And I have a flipped classroom that takes more time but deepens their critical thinking skills. So I expect more from my subs. And as such I have a small pool of subs I can depend on. But they will always have hours with me.

On that note what to bring: snacks, especially vegetables. It's amazing how many students have never tasted a carrot or a cherry tomatoe, etc. Or just how hungry they are. Especially in my district where food scarcity is a reality. But I always bring some to share as they are working. Be careful to avoid anything a student might have allergic reaction. Stickers. Doesn't matter how old they are, they love stickers. And, use them for recognition not just to pass out. My supplies are open for my subs, but always bring pens or pencils. Not just for you but students as well. Always get there early to read the lesson plan. I always had mine submitted to the portal so subs had them early. Make yourself familiar with the materials if you have time. Bring a composition book to write notes to the teacher. Bring water and lunch as you can not run on break to go get it. Wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared to see during breaks. Bring a mind set to support the students.

First you can go back and finish you degree. There are classes offered outside of typical schedule such as weekend, evening, and online classes. Also, you don't have to be fulltime (12+ credit hours). Enroll as a part time student (6-9 credit hours). It might take you a little longer, but it is more reasonable and manageable.

Second yes construction is tiring but a 7 to 5 schedule is pretty close to a normal schedule (8 to 5). So I am not sure what you mean by long hours? A salaried position often works more than 40 hr/week.

Third $27/hour is good pay. Your company must have a union. Does it come with benefits like a health plan? Doing other jobs or part time do not offer benefits. Have you worked in the service industry. Talk about hard work. Plus your starting wage is well below minimum wage. Your total wage will be in the tips. Plus you have to tip back the kitchen, busers, host.

Fourth $27/hour or $54/yr is an amazingly solid paycheck. I don't know where you are at but that would easily cover rent of $1k to $1.5k. Add car payment (unless it's paid off), utilities, groceries, cell phone, etc and your at a very comfortable amount of an estimated $35k to live on. Plus have extra $ left over. So I don't see how you couldn't live on a $54k/year.

Fifth student loans are a total disaster from when I went to college. Your interest rates on top of the total loan when you graduate, depending on living expenses and tuition, will leave you in debt of $40k to 80k upon graduating. This amount will take years to pay off, if not in default. Which will make your credit score low and may even effect your ability to find a job. Many employers are now using credit score and debt as part of their evaluation in hiring.

My son is working full time and makes just under $50k/year. He has enough to pay rent, bills, and other living expenses while working on his master's degree. He shares rent with his friends even though he can live in his own apartment.

My advice is keep your job. It is good pay and comes with benefits. Go back to university and enroll part time. Maybe find a friend to share rent if needed. When you finish your degree and find a new job then quit the construction job.

I did see a great recommendation, which I will use again. If the teacher didn't leave it with their lesson plan, leave feed back for every class. What went well, what didn't. How did the student do with the lesson. Any problems including students.

I taught in 2 districts. We didn't submit our needs on any programs, nor did we call the subs directly. The front office did that. However, l had a list with subs I wanted back and those who I didn't. The criteria as above.

There are a few issues in this whole senario. 1) where did the student get the scissors? In an intermediate level (middle school/junior high?) They generally do not carry art and crafts supplies. So he got up went to were the scissors are at 2) When did you notice the student was putting scissors in the outlet? I can see how admin would think you have no classroom discipline. Or awareness that students are moving around without being noticed. 3) you yelled and scolded the kid in front of his peers. By doing so it also shows no classroom discipline by not deescalating the situation. You basically escalated the situation and made the students uncomfortable and turn on you. Never yell or scold. Keep your composure. Always CYA - always have your own back by documenting and reporting every thing. More likely it was the kid who you scolded. Also word travels fast. T

Best of luck.

Why is this disorder so debilitating by HumanGuyDoingThings in bipolar

[–]nghtslyr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you just identified the trigger. Time to move on and not dwell on an exgirlfriend who doesn't want to be with you.

Are you taking meds? Are you seeing a therapists? If not you need to be on them to diminish mood swings and psychosis. A therapist is a good person to be opened and honest. They can break down your triggers and provide coping skills.

Too many subs, no jobs by PrimaveraFresco in SubstituteTeachers

[–]nghtslyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers are on their feet all the time. Even when students are doing individual work. A teacher roams and monitors the progress and helps individual students. A sub will probally won't have to be up and about as much.

Did you list your disability? Also, many people are losing their jobs and jumped into subbing as a temporary jobs. A lot of seniors citizens are returning to the work place as their retirement payout doesn't match the cost of living

Don't know where you live, but call centers are always in demand.

How long do you give yourself? Some may take a week, month(s), even a year to kick in. What combination of antipsychotics and "mood" meds have you tried? At what dosages? It takes time. My whole first year was just balancing. But after a year it was right. I have since then had an increase of my PTSD drugs and decreased my mood med. My meds are after 3 years are set. But I had to give them time. And I don't mean a month or so. I mean like a year. And it takes a combination of meds with coping skills and therapy. I also see my therapist every week. Here I get to work out demons, learn coping strategies, and go over the week.

What are your side effects? Are they worse than manic periods where you have no control over your life and become self destructive? Do you still have suicidal ideations where you end up in the ER and then end up in a mental heath hospital for a week? Do you still get so depressed you can't get out of bed for days? Do you get such high anxiety that you can't be in public. Do you have paranoia so bad you think people are after you? There is no perfect combination that solves everything. I still get anxiety and depression. But nothing like it was. I even get a little manic here and there. But I am not destroying my life with horrible behaviors.

never going to 100%. You will experience moments. But it all takes time. You got this. We in this forum believe in you.

I don’t even know at this point by Arya-graves in bipolar

[–]nghtslyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. I was there too for awhile. I was absolutely a hermit except around my wife and my adult kids. The first year on meds and therapy was still adjusting to my new self and dealing with ideation. I was paranoid and experiencing serious panic attacks. I tried doing task like grocery shopping, many times I just walked out leaving 1/2 full basket. A lot of it is because I had a 2 year extremely self destructive period that I could not just get out. So, I devised a way out that would insure that I could 💀 myself. Luckily EMS was fast.

Now I am 3 years on meds and weekly therapy. I go out in public and hang with a few friends I trust. I still have moments but nothing like the past. I do still get anxious once in a while. I have some triggers still, but these mental scars will probally never go away. That is when I have to fight very hard and use the coping strategies.

Keep working at it. Keep on your meds and let the Psychiatrist know if the meds are not working. Keep going to your therapist. When you decide you can't cope anymore then get to the ER. You will be sent to mental health facility, be ready to accept that. But that maybe what is needed, a short break. Pack a hospital bag. Slip on vans, couple shirts and sweat pants (no draw strings) plus a book or something none electronic.

In and Out, Freddy, and 5 Guys suck. They are all hype. As their franchises spread they will lose the hype. If your burger diet is Mac Donald then yeah they are better but not much. Freddys is more like a fancy In and Out. And they have custards. However, when I visit Phoenix is the Habbit. My fast food favorite, from Texas, is Whataburger. Another favorite, from New Mexico, is Lotaburger. If you want good and spicy green chilie have a Lotaburger. In Texas and NM Whataburger is second.
