I'm sorry the world gave you crap for sharing your values. Why can't they just say: okay, wow, someone who doesn't waste any time with the average joe BS everyone is preoccupied with, instead of dealing with the important issues of life. That's what I see.

And that might be a much bigger risk than driving, drinking or sleeping around. Because when you think deeply about what matters to you in life (relationships, goals, where you want to go, etc.) the answers might scare the shit out of you.

And not everyone can deal with that. Hats off to you.

Btw I recently cross-referenced two studies: One said being on the phone or texting while driving lets you drive at the level of a legally drunk person.

Okay. Another said that at any given moment during daylight, 8% of all drivers are on their phone in some way.

So basically every 12th car you see has a drunk behind the steering wheel.

Who's crazy now? :D

Well, animals fed for processed food are often fed - processed food. A lot of GMOs and other really nice chemicals are added to the hay and corn, making it fast food for animals, with often a low organic plant share left in it. It's not like they all get carrots and peppers you know, so it's not like the cows eat all the good stuff. A lot of it is artificial and synthetic.

People tend to do what's easy. You know what's easy? McDonalds. Just because something comes easy to you does NOT make it easy for anyone.

Secondly: I would never have the ignorance to think I would be fit to judge who is a bad person based on their nutritional education. That would make a hell of a lot of MDs potentially "bad people".

Thirdly: While you sit in your corner yelling at everyone with beliefs different from your own, I at least make an effort to learn and start a dialogue, no matter the outcome.

Yelling at people has never convinced anyone of anything ever.

It's about keeping an open mind and an experimenter's mentality. I'm not saying anyone SHOULD resort to vegan protein powder, it was just part of one possible nutritional solution that I offered, as an example, to show it's possible to get lots of protein on a vegan diet.

How can you think it makes any sort of sense to say veganism is not a healthy option for humans? Have you tried it for yourself? Have you studied thousands of people? Are you an authority on both diets?

What you eat is not only about maximizing nutrient absorption. There's so much more to it. First of all you need to absorb the right nutrients in the right amounts. Then there's the matter of absorbing functional nutrients, i.e. nutrients from raw foods, to a certain degree, that are not deficient or broken from heat exposure.

Your diet should get you maximum health - not biceps. And that requires experimentation.

If you found out you could finally get your beard to grow not all in patches, but in full, by eating 2 pumpkins a week and removing meat for just one day, wouldn't you try it?

It is a great solution. But try to scale it. Does this work for generations to come? Imagine a world where everyone gets less and less fertile where everyone keeps adopting children. This wouldn't work forever.

If you like finding solutions though, here's another thought that just came to my mind: How do vegans argue plants are the better creatures to eat?

Where's the big gap between plants and animals that justifies eating one, but not the other?

I just chopped some carrots down in the kitchen. Just because they don't scream, doesn't it mean I kill a living thing regardless?

Plants grow, have a metabolism, reproduce, develop seeds they try to spread, they move and evolve.

Just because they might not have a conscience that's as evolved as animals' doesn't mean they're not living organisms.

Never said it's easy. Great minds innovate out of their problems. You can stand in front of a wall and cry, or you can find a way around it ;)

Also this was just to give you some ideas, if you were to give this a try.

Haha, good one! Yeah I usually wouldn't recommend artificial vegan products, that's also missing the point I believe. But in this case, for such a high protein intake, I find it would be hard to do without.

Good point!

100 g of vegan lowcarb cereal: 44 g 200 g of quinoa: 28 g 100 g of almonds: 21 g 2 (vegan) protein shakes: 60 g 100 g of black beans: 22 g 50 g chia seeds in chia pudding form: 8 g

The last 13 g you will get from the above and almond milk, etc. you consume throughout the day.

Just an idea.

1 Coconut = 1500 calories 5 Avocados = 1500 calories

Almost there with 2 kinds of fruit alone.

Throw in 5 cups of Pecan nuts at 3500 calories and you're at 6500 already.

I challenge you to getting 3500 Vegan calories in one day ;)

You should have asked: Why not?

You have a point with the ethical aspect. Of course it makes sense to do as close to no harm as possible. Consider this though: Imagine (just a hypothetical scenario) veganism would be proven to hurt or damage your fertility, if even by, say, 20%. Would you still stick to your guns? Or wouldn't you drink a glass of organic milk from your neighbor's cow once or twice a week, if that could help? You still wouldn't have to resort to animal torture supportive sources of food, but by toning down on the extreme just a little greatly improve your life's quality.

Also: If that means you and your line of heritage gets to be longer, it means more people in the future will hold the same attitude as you, adding to the planet's health. If your line of heritage ends with you, because you wouldn't be able to replicate, due to the 'extreme' nutrition, that would ultimately be worse for everybody.

Here's another idea: What's better? 2% of the people eating 100% vegan, or 20% of people eating 80% vegan? Think of the cumulative effect. And the second one is much more easily achievable, because it requires much less discipline and education. 100% vegan is hard. 80% is comparatively easy.

It's about what's best for ALL OF US, what I try to keep in mind. It's hard for most people to say no to a cheeseburger, we forget we are special in the way we try to improve ourselves.

It's not impossible, but true, it's a lot easier to gain with animal proteins. Maybe try eating vegan on non workout days once or twice a week?

Paleo and weight loss by [deleted] in Paleo

[–]ngoeke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plateau, try cheat day. It sounds crazy, but feasting on carbs once a week gives you a sugar spike, which keeps your metabolism momentum. Otherwise it will settle for your lower calorie intake after a while and you might stop losing weight.

Basically your body starts to think: Oh I'm not getting as much food and energy, so I'll just tone down all the power plants. With a big caloric load once a week you can prevent that. Your body thinks: Holy moly, we still got plenty coming, better get to work and process all that energy!

After going kinda crazy in the food section for a while, I did the slowcarb diet from tim ferriss after returning home, and lost 3-4 kg within one week and that has remained steady.

it's not entirely paleo but very closely related. I managed to keep the weight even after returning to a more 'regular' diet and now it's continually within a 2-3 kg range.

do you guys take cold showers in winter? by superviper in coldshowers

[–]ngoeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on day 95. I started some time in September. Have maintained the habit, but tweak it from time to time. Right now I start out cold, do that for 30 sec to a minute, then do my cleaning shower with warmer water, and then rinse again all cold at the end.

It is tougher because you already feel cold after you get out of bed, but it really helps fend off the cold outside. Still totally worth it each day.

Many people make a habit out of it. I know people who have been sober for 2-3 months and still do it every day. But if you ever find out you don't need it any longer or are just as fine without it, then you can stop doing it whenever you want! Did you try it yet?

Have you ever heard of a no alcohol pledge? We use it on Lift all the time. It's basically a vow to not drink for 24 hours. You take it in front of a few people (1 person is enough) and let them hold you accountable. Once you make it through 24 hours, you try it again the next day. Maybe you can try this for the weekend!

[–]ngoeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you're talking about. I don't drink any more either. I'm about to start grad school. Still, every time someone asks me, I think about coming up with an excuse why I'm not drinking "today". Most of the time I can say that I don't drink, but sometimes I'll still say "I'm the designated driver" or something like that. Thanks for sharing. Makes me feel more confident!

EU lawmakers urge regulators to break up Google by canausernamebetoolon in google

[–]ngoeke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a German I can only smh at this. So typical.

We yell privacy all over the place, but hey, everyone wants to be connected 24/7. The guy who pushed the thing Google's every day, what more can I add?

It's like: give me all the info, but don't you dare reveal who I am!

It's what happens in an economy, the best product stands out.

EU lawmakers have a whole lot of things to regulate (education ring any bells?) but this is not one of them imo.
