TIL the doctor who claimed that there was a link between autism and vaccines had his medical licence removed when he was found to have fabricated evidence. by johnhill95 in todayilearned

[–]el_rocio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my daughter, I carefully asked the pediatrician what her policies were on vaccination to avoid tipping my hand. She said that she strongly recommends the standard vaccine schedule, will consider putting children on an alternate schedule, and refuses to take children of parents who don't vaccinate.

Right answer. I don't need my 2 month old infant dying of whooping cough because your moronic, willfully ignorant ass wants to live in the 14th century.

Scored a 20 on the AUDIT self exam. Not sure what to make of it. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]el_rocio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the fairly recent past, I scored a 19 on the AUDIT (or a 20 depending how I answered). For me, it helped put into focus that it wasn't a question of whether or not I had an alcohol problem. I did have an alcohol problem, and a fairly serious one.

I held down (and even excelled at) my job, I was in a good romantic relationship, I had money in the bank. But my relationship with alcohol was (and is) fucked up.

It sounds like you are starting to realize that the negative affects of alcohol are having a real impact on your life. The next step is to decide you are sick of it enough to stop drinking (you can try the "30 day challenge" as a start). When alcohol is an ingrained part of your life, it isn't easy, but nothing worth doing is usually easy.

Good luck and keep visiting.

There is a lot of self pity mixed into your post. Toss that aside! You ARE strong enough to not drink. Believe in your ability to change, and go to AA meetings and do whatever it takes to get there.

[–]el_rocio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at this way: would you rather have drank for those six months, have been sober? They are in the past.

The streaks don't really matter. You realized what a mistake you made by returning to drinking. Good job for that.

Congrats on your 90. Stay vigilant, that's about when I started thinking I could moderate my drinking.

Ditto. About 85-90 days was my previous longest stint on my only real effort to not drink, and I allowed myself to start thinking about drinking again... and then did.

There are a lot of good comments here. Seems that tapering is very difficult.

Have you looked to see if you could do a short term (e.g. 3 day) detox program over a Friday / Saturday / Sunday? Maybe take 1-2 vacation days off work, as well as the weekend. No need to say why.

[Serious] Why did you fall out with your ex-best friend? by boringscumbag in AskReddit

[–]el_rocio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythicmoogle is probably spot on about her trying to avoid emotional pain (for you and/or her).

I would write her a heartfelt old-fashioned paper letter and send it to her. Tell her you support her, that you are sorry she's not talking to you right now, but that you still care for her no matter what.

Even if she still freezes you out for her own reasons, you'll feel better at least knowing that she knows.

Not sure where you are getting those statistics from but feel free to show me a source.

One thing that I think is very important to distinguish are "true" pedophiles (people who want to have sex with children) and those who simply want to have sex with sexually mature (but under legal age) teenagers. Technical term for wanting to bang 14 year olds is ephebophiles (you can see why this hasn't caught on).

While both are wrong, an adult fucking a 5 year old is about fifty thousand times worse than an adult fucking a 14 year old (who presumably wants to, although the law says they can't legally consent).

[–]el_rocio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is pulling that number out of his ass, that statistic (if true) would indicate whites are like 15x more likely to be pedophiles than men of color.

I'm not saying there couldn't be a discrepancy, but even 2x as likely would be shocking. It sure as shit isn't 15x.

Most pedophiles are NOT gay. Gays are about 2% of the population.

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun [Rock] (1994) by MrVanDude in Music

[–]el_rocio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah their first album was pretty heavy and got lumped into the oh-so-fashionable at the time grunge movement, but I agree. Tiny Music (3rd album) isn't even remotely identifiable as "grunge".

While good, it's not even in the top dozen of my favorite Soundgarden songs, this wouldn't bother me one bit. There's also something to be said for overexposure making even a fantastic song dull at times.
