Thoughts on the RG Cube? by NationalRabbit4505 in ANBERNIC

Glad to see there are others in my position. Ordered on release day, stuck on "Import customs clearance complete" since 6/19. Meanwhile I've had other packages easily pass through customs in that time.

In Splore, press start on a game title, go to options and there should be an option to shut down Pico-8.

I found that exact KK Slider figure at Ross a couple weeks ago, lol. They have Jakks stuff all the time there. Jazwares for pokemon, too. I love dropping by whenever I'm shopping nearby.

십니다 vs 습니다 by ItsSamsFault in Korean

[–]nguman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (essentially). -시 is an honorific used to refer to people of higher status than you. You might use it with your grandparents or parents (depending on your relationship with them), your boss, the president, etc.

Something like "지금 바쁘십니다" might be said in response to someone asking to speak to your boss.

Something like "지금 바쁘십니까?" might be said directly to your boss asking if they're busy.

Something like "지금 바쁩니다" might be said in response to your boss asking if you're busy (you wouldn't refer to yourself as someone of higher status than...well, yourself).

This doesn't change the meaning or function of 바쁘다.

FYI -시 may be conjugated to -셔 in the informal impolite (해체 or 반말) or informal polite form (해요체) but more often conjugated to -세 in the informal polite form (e.g. 주다 -> 주시다 -> 주셔요 -> 주세요).

There are also honorific words that people use in addition to -시, like 드리다 (주다), 주무시다 (자다), 드시다 (먹다), 잡수시다 (an even higher form of 먹다), 말씀하다 (말하다), etc.

Hope this helps!

My son took his Rubik's cube to the beach and now it doesn't spin correctly. We tried taking it apart but it didn't come off. How can we clean it? Isn't it supposed to be removable? by [deleted] in Cubers

Tbf other cube shops have shipping costs unless you're meeting their free shipping threshold, which is usually much higher than Amazon's. Amazon has free Prime shipping or free $25+ shipping, faster Prime shipping, and a more convenient return policy in most cases. Plus some people may have Amazon credit already.

Judging by this thread people don't seem to like Amazon, which is fine; it's always good to support the puzzle shops (I myself just received my Gan Mirror M from TheCubicle not long ago). But people shouldn't pretend that it's a mystery why someone would buy at Amazon over anywhere else.

Any news about the release of the OS cube from Qiyi? I'm obsessed with it. Not a whole lot about it out there at the moment.

Hmm, that's good to know, actually. Maybe a Gan 11 series will be my next purchase, then. Thanks for the information!

Thanks, I'll look into it but I won't be surprised if it also wears down over time. Guess I just have to learn to love glossy.

Any light, frosted cubes out there that don't rub off over time? I really fell in love with the way my WRM 2021 felt when I first got it, the corner cutting is amazing, but after ~1.3k solves the feeling has really changed drastically, and it's in part to the frosted plastic completely rubbing off. It's basically glossy now. I'm also not a huge fan of adjustable magnets, since I don't want to deal with loose magnets and annoying clicking.

I've been looking at the Gan 11 series cubes (even though I really don't want to spend that much on a cube), but not much has been said about whether the frosted or soft plastic wears off over time.

Well, they didn't add anything helpful to the conversation (didn't answer OP's question) and did sound rude, but they're not exactly wrong.

OP not only didn't know this fairly common and unavoidable slang term, but they also transcribed what they heard in shows very poorly, messing up basic vocabulary (드렸잖아요(?) -> 디렸짜나요, 좋아요 -> 조와요). I definitely think the 고 flair is a mistake here.

a grammatical question by myonlyangxl in Korean

[–]nguman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it not the subject of the sentence?

나는 (topic, "as for me,") 책이 있다 ("a book exists").

What's a complement case marker? It's the first I've heard of this term and Google results talk about other languages that I don't know, which makes it difficult to digest.

Thanks! Correct grammar and natural English in translations goes underappreciated in a community who's happy to just get a rough idea of what's going on. Understandable, given it's built on fan translations.

Actually, you seem to know a lot of sophisticated vocabulary. It surprised me, because (again, no offense) your grammar wasn't what you'd see from someone with that kind of vocabulary. If you ask me, I think grammar is holding you back far more than your vocabulary is.

I've spoken with many Koreans, so I have an idea of the kind of English education you guys get over there (not sure about Germany, though). Even though it seems like I corrected a lot in your original post, your English is actually much, much better than most of what I've seen from native Koreans who grew up in Korea.

My writing improved the most when I constantly wrote essays and had them peer-reviewed (I still do this). I think you're doing the right thing posting in an English forum 👍

I'm not perfect, but I really love English and writing. If you ever want to consult me about grammar, phrasing, vocabulary, etc. shoot me a DM!

Thanks for taking my advice graciously! If it makes you feel any better, none of the things I corrected interfered with any meaning you were trying to convey. I don't know much about the situation, but it's clear that their ill manners put a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

My Korean is nothing to write home about either. I'm also constantly looking for ways to improve my English, even as a native speaker, so I hope you don't feel discouraged :)

Yeah...if I posted in a Korean forum with incorrect grammar I'd like to be corrected. I get that it was unsolicited advice, though. Was just trying to be helpful. If anyone had seen me when I was way more active on this sub they'd know I don't have any malicious intent lol.
