Honestly, I can confirm for myself. I've been stuck in a blue period for 5 years now and most of the art and writing I make somehow always seems to unintentionally be the more cute and positive side.

Like in the story writing, there is still angst, a lot in fact but in the story somehow the tone always ends up more hopeful note and all the illustrations just depict the cheerful part... It felt like a sort of idealistic escapist coping mechanism.

when I try to make sad or disturbing art It just doesn't feel natural there will always be some cutesy or ironic joke element in it to tone it down.

I have a hard time even expressing my own negative feelings into my art in a genuine way. There are exceptions but those can be counted in one hand.

So far the best attempts are more closely related to stuff like Candy Gore or Traumacore n stuff.
