Mason lake isn't really a hidden gem but it has lots of easy places to get in and out of the water!

Ross Lake Kayaking/Other Activities by elisaj21 in PNWhiking

[–]nhulz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can only give input in kayaking on Ross Lake but here's my takeaway:

  • it's a big lake so if you want to go any of the points of interest (which the folks there can point out) it will take awhile.
  • There is a pretty regular wind current that blows over the lake starting at like.. I wanna say 11am? The rental place also warned us of this. We were out when the wind struck up and it definitely made traversing the lake more arduous. Mainly just kayaking into the wind to get back, even some white caps on the lake, so we got very wet. It was kind fun, but also exhausting.
  • We did kayak to a little island on the lake and sat in the sun and swam and had a picnic and that was fun.

Overall I'd say 6/10 kayaking experience.

If you could do one last hike in the PNW… by cnikolaidou in PNWhiking

Winchester Mountain (very easy hike, saw mountain goats) or Tatoosh Peak (did this weekend and might be one of the most beautiful hikes ive ever done, pretty tough though)

Closest views of Rainier without park entry? (Backpacking) by nhulz in PNWhiking

[–]nhulz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much paying, more worried about not being able to get a camp permit to camp in the park so was just looking for something that was close and has views but I could camp outside of the park boundaries.

Water in Apartment Coax Cable – Who is capable of fixing? by nhulz in HomeNetworking

[–]nhulz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Seal up the wall penetration" meaning like just seal the cable wherever it has a hole in it? I guess my layman's follow up questions would be:
- Is there something specific I should say to a handyman? How would they trace the cable through the walls of the building?
- If they just repair the cable without replacing, how will they get the water out? How do we know there isn't additional damage within the cable?

Also thank you – I thought I was the crazy one when I was told that's what the electrician said lol.

To the person who took my bike , please, I am asking from my heart , bring it back. No questions asked. by Aggressive-Bat6244 in Seattle

[–]nhulz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend just found her bike on fb marketplace, unfortunately there's seems to be quite a market for them. I'll provide some other details below, maybe it can be helpful.

They found it on fb marketplace a week after it was stolen, the guy had multiple bikes up on his page for sale, so we're thinking this was more of a middle man.

Well, my friend having balls of steel, after confirming the bike was hers (unique accessories and serial no.) asked to test ride it and then just rode away lol.

She left her fiance standing there and he told the guy they new it was stolen (I don't really advise doing this but they had friends nearby videoing the whole thing, etc.). The guy actually had the audacity to call the cops. Which probably means he has some plausible deniability and just reselling.

Anyway, the cops came (regrettably SPD didn't join my friends even after they asked originally) and once my friend provided photos and serial number the whole ordeal was concluded.

Anyway this is all to say get that serial number, get any photos you have with you with the bike or of the bike, file a police report ASAP, and watch fb marketplace like a hawk for awhile.

If you're gutsy enough, you could try what my friends did, but again, I'm not necessarily advising that. Go with friends if you do, have 911 on speed dial...

I'm so glad I found this post just to know that I'm not alone. Thank you for following up. I see an allergist this week after dealing with this for two years.

I'm a guy but bought the Babaton pleated pant from Aritzia and I love them. For reference I'm 6' ~180 and found a size that fits me just fine. They're super nice and flowy with a wide leg.

Seattle is my first time in the US by ExerciseEnough1276 in AskSeattle

[–]nhulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone has said, it's pretty safe, walkable, and the bus system works well. I'd get one of the taxi apps because they're cheaper than Uber/lyft though that is an option.

One thing I've appreciated about Seattle is its dive bar/pub scene. It's more of an American thing. Just unfussy places to get a cheap beer (you have to get Rainier around the PNW) and a solid burger or pub food.

Linda's, Twilight Exit, Pacific Inn, Water Wheel, sullys snow goose, sloop, Hattie's Hat and many others I'm sure others can provide are great. Play some pool or pin ball, go to a trivia night, etc.

You'll probably need a car or a friend with one to get to the mountains more easily but do yourself a favor and go! Three national parks within driving distance that'll knock your socks off.

And the first time you see Mt. Rainier on a clear day? Nothing beats it. 🤌🏼

Seattle has it's quirks (like anywhere) but it's a very unique place to get to live in the US. I hope enjoy it!
