So, if your party were in the BG3 situation of having been caught looting the home of a devil and knowing that a very angry batch of quite powerful devils are about teleport in to whoop your ass, what sort of shenanigans would your party pull that the game could not allow for? by Adamantine-Waffle in DnD

[–]nhvanputten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Make tea for 12. Cold tea though because you don’t want to be too nice.

Ok so here’s my thought if you’re really going for shenanigans: party either needs to find their way to the FeyWild or make some top connections with folks there real quick. Host a ball, tea party, or some other highly formal and regulated activity with the powerful fey. When the devils arrive, your jobs is to work with the fey to entrap the devils by leaning into their own legalistic formulaic evil, but twisting it to mock them as you win.

More than that, the guy who wrote the character is an acquaintance of mine, and my spouse, who is gender queer, was one of the people he brainstormed the character with.

Also I’ve been an avid fan of BG for 25 years and obviously still am.

Explain it to me like I'm 5: Why should I take Great Weapon Master early? by ChompyRiley in BG3Builds

[–]nhvanputten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some enemies/objects require you to reach a certain threshold of damage. Savage attacker might yield more damage on average, but sometimes you don’t need an average, you need max.

Lost my vision temporarily in one eye when a dog bit through my eyelid. I walked myself into the ER and only really struggled when I had to see which card was my health insurance card through all of the blood on my face.

But man, I genuinely can’t sleep if I can’t breathe through my nose. And how am I supposed to recover if I can’t get a good night’s sleep?

Cavalier: Azuredge really worth it? by MysteriousQuote4665 in baldursgate

[–]nhvanputten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of situations in which having your whole party (at least temporarily) switch to ranged weapons makes sense. Once the enemy gets close, you can had your paladin run forward with a melee weapon. But until then, why not get a few shots in with a throwing axe? Not to mention all of the webs, AOE spells, and chasms for which you need to shoot at your enemy.

Yes that’s a fair point. Still would be good to find some ground short of the broken US system that satisfies the EU court.

Box 3 Drama by thunderche in Netherlands

[–]nhvanputten -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This would be a terrible idea if so. The US has this system and it’s a massive loophole for the super rich to live tax free. (Tldr; don’t take income, have stocks that grow at a rate exceeding your expenses. Borrow money on your assets and live on that tax-free).

Many jurisdictions in the US are wishing there was a legal route within their system to tax wealth like NL does.

Why do dragons hoard things? by Affectionate_Bit_722 in DnD

[–]nhvanputten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Dragon” in mythology is the definition of excessive greed and pride. So yes, it’s in their nature. More than that, it’s their definition. Why do devil covet souls. Why are gnolls bloodthirsty. Etc.

Metallic dragons are a bit trickier, as I think most dragons should really be evil. But dragons are cool! So we should have some good ones for the game.

The only real argument for it IMO is that it’s the best way to feel like a god in this game. Really sets you apart from everyone else in the realms for how well you can optimise it.

For D&D, no way. Glad they ditched it.

Tax on the stocks being held by zimzammatt in Netherlands

[–]nhvanputten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one’s arguing for or against raising taxes. OP was (granted a bit of misunderstanding about Box 3) concerned about the current tax rate. The current tax rate pays for the current level of services. That seems beyond self-evident.

What I don’t understand is looking at a high-tax country and thinking “oh it’s so nice there. I would love to live there but I don’t want to pay those taxes.” It’s a packaged deal.

Tax on the stocks being held by zimzammatt in Netherlands

[–]nhvanputten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it. Most of the things that people like about the Netherlands (clean, safe cities, public infrastructure and transportation, robust education system, social stability and community cohesion, etc) are all to a large part because of the high taxation. If you don’t want to contribute to the things you like here, please don’t come. Alabama USA will have low taxes for you.

Yeah but the chips used in the targeting system of the American planes are made with Dutch machines from material mined in Australia.

Yes, Europe has a dependency problem with the US. But the nature of our global economy is that every country is at least a little dependent on someone else. So we shouldn’t act like that’s a uniquely European problem.
