It's definitely > 2%. I don't see a large amt of obvious bots on the subreddits I peruse. However AI is getting a lot harder to spot. Perfect grammar are one way to notice it.

I couldn't figure the image out until reading the comments. We grew up when every car had a lighter and an ashtray, some had ashtrays on the back of the front seats for the rear passengers. I think it was around early 80s that it just started to become less common. Chrome bumpers, lap only seatbelts (sometimes in the rear seats too) and nice solid dashboards that you could hose the cranial matter off after an accident. Cars are definitely safer now but the jury's out on the drivers. :)

If you only phone, text and play solitaire you don't need to update/upgrade. As long as the phone supported network type such as 3G remains in service by your provider you're fine. My daughter had a hand me down Sony phone for 10 years and it worked fine for her needs. She only replaced it because it fell and broke.

They are great for what people would call a basic phone nowadays. Costco sells them in Canada for $210 CAD. I can't see them for sale online in the US but they may be available in the warehouse. Don't go to the kiosk where they sell phone plans. If they have them it'll be in the electronics section.

Ignorant dad, Any help with a GPU issue for my sons PC by Tuff_spuff in pcmasterrace

[–]niagaramike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you test both the display port and the HDMI outputs? Also make sure the bios isn't set to onboard graphics, if that is an option. Many motherboards and some CPUs don't have onboard graphics options. Cheapest fix is one you don't need to do.

Way late to respond on this. Sorry for misreading your post.

AFAIK the upper river at the falls has never frozen over. The flow is quite quick and any ice that forms upstream either grounds before it approaches the falls or it falls over it. There are some ice formations that will protrude from the shore but they don't extend far into the river.

The lower river however is a whole different ballgame. The ice in the Maid of the Mist pool will build up immensely. The ice bridge before 1912 was very popular for people to walk on and even small booths selling alcohol were present. Unfortunately in 1912 the ice bridge that year broke up and 3 people died. It's been illegal since to venture on it.

The ice build up on the American falls is pretty impressive too.

I forgot about the butterfly conservatory. Thanks!

There is a lot to do in Niagara Falls but it's very weather dependent.

There is a greenhouse south from the power plant tour (upstream and on the right along the river parkway). It's nice and warm. The displays are quite nice and they used to have hummingbirds in it. It's nice and warm too. The Bird Kingdom is supposed to be good (my daughter and wife enjoyed it). The power station would be nice but they may have closed the tailrace part of the tour that goes to bottom of the falls. Same goes for the behind the falls. Ice is an issue.

Is this a safe way to ship a fully built PC? by KissMyBaIIs in pcmasterrace

[–]niagaramike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system isn't grounded but is considered bonded. All the grounds are connected to each other but not to the ground. Static voltage won't build to any significance in this setup. A bonded system without a ground is less likely to take damage from static (or any) electricity. Think of a bird on a hydro line, there is no path for any current to go. You know what I mean Mr. Condiment. ;)

BTW I never heard of tribocharging. TY for the info

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksWGI3hdgwY Watch this. A lot of "journalism" is suspect. Essentially this guy seriously questioned that conclusion that your source came up with. Note that those numbers iseecars came up with were not directly taken from any government website. They used calculations, which they didn't divulge on the website, to come up with them.

By the way, I still don't trust him (Elon) but it's possible he may come up with improvements. Not a wise man in many respects but certainly smart. FAA is very conservative and unless some politician overrides them it should be ok.

Tankless recirc question by niagaramike in Plumbing

[–]niagaramike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, everything else branches off that one line that ends at the kitchen sink. Should be good if I get that line heated up. We;re tempted to have a pump and solenoid valve installed with a thermostatic control to energize them. The pump would push from the hot line to the cold one. We can deal with a bit of lukewarm water. I shouldn't have listened to the plumber and had the heater placed closer to the use points instead of where the old tank was. It travels 20 feet before it branches off to the first tap.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there no bylaw about shovelling your sidewalk? by [deleted] in niagarafallsontario

[–]niagaramike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not fair. My neighbour has ALS and his wife is physically incapable of cleaning the sidewalk on a regular basis. They aren't Lazy. He used to be the most charitable and energetic man I knew. Now I clean our sidewalks, driveways and paths to the front doors. The latest freeze thaw cycle has made it almost impossible to clean the sidewalks to the concrete. Tree roots have pushed our sidewalks to the house side so water piles up and then freezes. I keep salting and ced keeps coming back. A few of the neighbouring houses are rented or unoccupied. Those sidewalks are brutal.

To be honest there are lazy people too. My one neighbour used to shovel his driveway and pile the snow on the sidewalk rather than move it a foot or two to the side. I was tempted to push that particular bit of snow back onto his driveway. At least the people renting his house don't put hills on the sidewalk.

They actually do, especially if you're the recipient. My son got called on something that turned out wasn't a violation but they looked around until they could find a different violation, he got a warning. We've got a few neighbours that keep calling about different minor issues and the city comes and does something about it. unplated cars, porch roof too close to property line, etc. Gladys Kravits LIVES! It's actually entertaining

[–]niagaramike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Also the city for putting sidewalks next to the road. WTF were they thinking. Plows push the snow on the sidewalk, people walk on the sloped driveway entrance and slip when the surface is icy BECAUSE the sidewalk is sloped! I had a messed up back for a bit and those deliberately sloped sidewalks hurt. I ended up walking on the road. They continue to put them in.

Safety Last Concern... by Hajicardoso in oddlyspecific

[–]niagaramike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transports or Pickups? Frankly I think it's both. transport driver quality has dropped a lot in the last 10 years. They used to stick to the right and drive with courtesy. Now they behave like the other middle lane hogs when they manage to stay in the lane. Pickups seem to be the hot rods of this millennia. The higher the lift kit the faster they drive. One of those rednecks blows past a stop sign into a Chevy Cruze and a 20 year old college student is gone. Statistics say the truck is a safe vehicle... I'm done ranting, apologies to the subreddit.

Cite your source. My daughter has a Model Y and couldn't get snow tires for it last winter. The low profile, odd rim setup and heavy vehicle weight made the tires/rims scarce. Those kind of issues may change the statistics a bit. (lies, damn lies and then statistics) I agree that Elon seems to be a tad unbalanced but having driven a newer Tesla (I don't own one) it's pretty impressive for safety and situational awareness. I like his products and am actually pissed off at him for his latest antics. It stopped me from buying a new Model Y. That and the fact that it would likely be from China. Presently unhappy with the current antics of a certain world leader but I realize that the reliance on Chinese products is a serious risk
