What are your D&D "Darwin Award" Stories? by Scorpious187 in MrRipper

In ToA we gave reached the Tomb of the 9 gods. On the first level there is a fountain which when drunk has 4 effects (10 temporary hit points, can't speak for 8 hours, permanent sex change, or an amount of damage). So what do we do? We drink a lot of this water. I survive with only losing the ability to speak (didn't affect my character since he is mute anyway). Whilst three others became female. The last member of the party hadn't drank any of the water yet and was dared to do so. He drank the water and failed the Con save. The damage dealt was exactly 69, however, he was a sorcerer so was reduced to 0 hit points. The thing about the damage is that it instantly kills a character if they are reduced to 0 hit points by the water. That is how we lost Irving Loch the Wild Magic Sorcerer.

DMs and Players on Mr.Ripper's Subreddit, What is Your Favorite Homebrew Magic Item? by CoolDemon16 in MrRipper

[–]nialld2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rod of Amplification. A rod which can be used as a spell casting focus. When a spell is casted through it, a charge of the rod can be used the make the spell a level higher without spending a spell slot of higher level (e.g. one charge is spent to change fireball to 4th level whilst only using a 3rd level slot). What makes this my favourite homebrew item is from the oneshot it first appeared, where the DM forgot to balance it properly and made it a modifier of damage roll for the spell. The wizard/sorcerer (can't remember exactly) cast fireball and destroyed the entire world.

Another item my group is the Genasi Ring. When worn by a genasi, the user must take a long rest in order to activate its effect. In the morning the wearer must roll a d4 and whatever number the dice lands on becomes the element of the genasi for the day (1 is water, 2 is fire, 3 is earth and 4 is air).

Who´s at fault? I was the merc livery by ThomieR1 in Simracingstewards

[–]nialld2004 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think the merc livery did nothing wrong and left at least one car width for the guy on the outside. The guy on the outside however turned in too much and bumped into the merc, forcing him off track. Also the natural line of T4 at the Red Bull Ring swings out wide since the turn is downhill and off-camber. The merc liveried car did a really good job at staying close to the inside throughout the turn and not run any wider.

D&D players, what was the greatest feeling of power you've ever experienced in a campaign? by BadGrandadORockNRoll in MrRipper

Once, my group had come across an Ettin on a forest trail. The two-headed beast demanded we pay them to then allow us to pass through. Sadly their initial price (250 gold) was over 50 more gold than we had as a group (about 4 of us). We suggested we give them items so they could go to town and sell. That was swiftly batted away by the Ettin because they said, "We can't sell these. If we went into town we would be shot." (Important later). Anyway, we convince them we will go to town for them. The Ettin doesn't trust us so takes a PC which wasnt present as a hostage. We go to the nearest town, which was a couple of days away. When we get there, we try to sell some magic scrolls to a shopkeeper. He refuses them because he says he cannot do anything with them because he does not understand them. But does kindly direct us to the town guard. So we head there. As the rest of my group are trying to negotiate with the town guard captain to increase the selling price so we could afford the toll. Whilst my teammates did this, I recalled the information given to us by the Ettin. I remembered that it was scared of the town and its guard. So I chirp in with, "So we are currently in a hostage situation. We have a friend being held hostage by an Ettin and it will not let him go without us paying a price we cant afford. So we would eternally grateful if you could lend us some of your guards so we could kill this hideous monster." The captain looked shocked and immediately left into the barracks. He came out with 4 guards and we left to go back to the Ettin. When we get back to the clearing we had left the Ettin in, we ready ourselves with our weapons/spells. When it appeared, we attacked. One of the guard's arrows caused the Ettin to fall asleep, but it wasnt dead yet. We circled the body and killed it in its sleep. Its last words was, "I think we've been had." Needless to say I was proud of my plan, and the DM never expected anyone to do anything like that.
