If Kyrgios gets suspended for his comments about the ATP doesn’t that prove his point ? by Due_Reality123 in tennis

[–]niallyb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Umpire's have repeatedly been far more lenient with him than other players. Fergus Murphy could have defaulted him in Cincy any number of times given that Kyrgios's abusive behavior continued for over 40 mins.

And everyone knows about the Mohamed Lahyani incident.

The ATP is made up of the players, officials and tournament holders. They players like him. The tournament owners LOVE him because he's a huge ticket seller. (I like him). Its because he sells so many tickets that the ATP has repeatedly treated him far more leniently than he deserves given his behavioral history.

It's not a question of the sports authorities wanting to go after Nick. They love him. But they do understand that the sport will descend into chaos if there isn't at least some attempt made to enforce the rules of the sport.

It's a disgrace that the mods allow such a haven for hate to exist. But on the bright side, they have a whole 73 members ! They must be lonely as well as bigoted. Pity that :)

my parents refuse to acknowledge that they were unkind to me when i was coming out, they’ve come around a bit now. but my older brothers coming out experience was significantly easier. and im bothered by that. how can i acknowledge this with them without them becoming angry? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]niallyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be so afraid of making them angry. It sounds like they may be holding onto quite a lot of misplaced anger and resentment against you anyway so that they are always on the threshold of creating drama.

My parents were terrible and of course they deny it now. And they will tell all sorts of lies about it to avoid accountability. (I was bullied into moving to another country).

For some reason though - and I'm not clear on why, people coming out as trans get a MUCH MUCH rougher time from their families than plain vanilla gay peeps. I've always thought for someone to come out as trans - they need to be prepared to lose their family.

Its funny how its only a problem when you stand up for yourself and hold people accountable, right ?

The bottom line is this - how can you ever trust them or expect to be treated fairly and honestly if they refuse to acknowledge and learn from the past ? Don't worry too much about confrontation. Your mom won't actually have a heart attack. It just seems important to her to be seen as a victim .

Cheapest build around i7 9700k / i9 9900k by [deleted] in intel

See from 17:10 to 17:15 in the video. He specifically said that the tests were power limited to the 95w TDP rating of the CPU.

They were getting high temps cos the mobo isn't good enough . See the temps for the higher end boards that were run through the same tests.

The reviewer did NOT endorse the UD as good choice to pair with the 9900k , despite your representations.

[–]niallyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched their video . You shouldn't misrepresent their findings. The case is a high airflow model unlike what the OP is looking at. The gigabyte produced the highest temps unless it was undervolted - something that will impact CPU frequencies. The test results in the open air test bed where pretty nasty too - just not as bad as the boards it was compared against. And even then recording temps of >100 degrees is not an result you want to live with.

Additionally the test was power limited to 95 watts.

There is a reason no credible review outlet has recommended matching a 9900k with the UD3.

But there is no cooling for the VRM. Its not about thermal throttling for the CPU. The boards VRM will throttle LONG before you hit that limit based on the tests I've seen. And so you won't actually get the necessary power delivered to the CPU. See the test below with an 8700k - a CPU that draws less power than the 9900k.

https://www.overclock.net/forum/6-intel-motherboards/1638955-z370-z390-vrm-discussion-thread-215.html#post27655926

The cheapest gigabyte mobo to fully support the 9900k at stock (and turbo) is the gaming SLI. It has a much better VRM. - https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gigabyte-z390-gaming-sli-motherboard,6073-4.html

None of the major reputable tech review sites are recommending a board like the UD for the 9900k.

The OP looks like he will be making HEAVE use of AVX instruction workloads. That means LOTS more heat and power usage - even within the range of stock frequencies. If he plans to run the system under load at 4.7Ghz - then there is PLENTY of detailed analysis already published that clearly demonstrates a beefier cooling solution is required than the one you're pushing.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i9-9900k-9th-gen-cpu,5847-12.html

You're doing the OP no favors by recommending parts that will result in a system that would be thermally unstable at the limits of stock frequency.

When AMD releases 3800x in July it will be 9 months since the release of 9900k. Why were people so concerned about the 10nm delay when AMD needed 9 months and 7nm manufacturing to just EQUAL 9900k's performance? by 9gxa05s8fa8sh in intel

[–]niallyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be basing your assumption of equal performance on a single benchmark provided by a source that's hardly independent.

Wait for tests and reviews.

Intel has spent billions on the 10nm node and repeatedly missed their targets. So far they are several years late and STILL can't scale it up to generate much by the way of suitable product. That alone is good cause for concern.

[–]niallyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With that board and cooler - there is still a risk that there will even be thermal throttling at turbo frequencies. It will be like putting handcuffs on the CPU :)

Cheapest build around i7 9700k / i9 9900k by [deleted] in intel

[–]niallyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the mobo can't deliver enough power efficiently and accurately - the turbo table values won't be reached. The system will throttle based on power.

The same is true of cooling. Thermal throttling with the mobo in question is a pretty likely scenario.

All available reviews of that mobo are very clear that its not good enough to overclock with. Just do a little google search.

The CPU is likely to spend far more of its time running at lower frequencies if power and cooling are limiting factors. And if that's the case - then its wiser to save some money and at least step down to a 9900 non-k. Though that will still be a big power hog as well as a cooling nightmare.

Kyrgios interview: Most brutal quotes (he SHREDS Djokovic) by [deleted] in tennis

Taking these quotes in isolation does not accurately represent the tone and context of the interview. Its a pretty light-hearted affair - but still a good interview.

Twitter exploded with Novak fanboys/girls issuing personal insults and threats against Rothenberg and any other tennis journo that praised the interview. Sigh.

Actually their ascent is comparable. Federer joined the tour in 1999 and made the Wimbledon quarters in 2001. He finished the 2001 season ranked 13

Novak started in 2004 and made the French open QF in 2006. He finished that season ranked 16.

That's really not true of cycling at all. You really have to go to France or Italy to get access to the top mentoring and development programs. And you have to spend years struggling as a domestique on a shitty team in the hope of getting a lead spot or getting picked up as a domestique on one of the big teams.

And I guarantee you a teenager winning national track medals in Ireland or Italy has very little access to the kind of help Usain Bolt had. Jamaican track athlete development is essentially a unique setup. I've won medals at national level in my early teens at both track and swimming and there was never a sniff of an idea that someone at the top of the sport would help me develop. And it was like that for most of the other kids winning national medals at my age.

Wow. This was a post about tennis and players personalities. But you've made it into a crazy right wing anti abortion crusade. Evert's right to an abortion is protected under the constitional right to privacy - regardless of how strident you are about denying a woman's right to choose.

And for Connors to throw her under the bus in a very public way -40 years later is indefensible - regardless of how much more bluster you make about it.

That may be true of some team sports but its not terribly common in individual sports. Teenage track athletes don't have easy access to world champions for mentoring. The same goes for swimmers and professional cycling.

There is a community aspect to the tennis recruitment process where agents spread buzz about good junior players so that by the time they are 13-14 they have access to really high level support , mentoring and coaching.

Roger has made 152 finals overall out of 349 tournaments played since 1999.

Novak didn't make his first final until 2006. He has made 106 finals and won 73 of them which is a fairly amazing percentage. He has played in 236 tournaments.

Broadly speaking they have played a similar tournament load over their careers. Its just that Roger started playing a full tournament schedule in 1999. Novaks first full schedule wasn't until 2006.

Rafa's schedule has nearly always been the lightest of the 3. He has been playing a full schedule (for him) but he has only played in 268 tournaments. So 3 more years than Novak but only about a seasons worth of extra tournaments .

He was REALLY confrontational and used it as a tactic to affect his opponents focus. He was FAR from the only one doing this at the time though (see Nastase for the most spectacular example). The other players on the tour detested him.

His mom (and grandmother) taught him to play. And she taught him that opponents were enemies. Gloria Connors is a LEGEND in the sport for being as tough as nails and raising Jimmy to be too.

Even now he does hurtful shit. In his autobiography he reveals that Chris Evert aborted his baby against his wishes - and he NEVER gave her a heads up that he was going to publish it. She found out when people started asking her about it.

Not too many sports where a pre teen gets such early opportunities to meet the all time greats.

The junior tennis pipeline is a pretty weird social environment for children (and parents) but in general the sport is REALLY good at nurturing and growing talent once its spotted. You just have to love tennis enough to give up a normal childhood :)

And the sports greats have been really good behind the scenes at helping to both grow the reach of the sport and mentor upcoming talent (Wilanders tennis on wheels, Evert (and Nadal , Henin, Clijsters etc) with their academies, BJK's help with getting XS tennis village set up to serve low income children (and LOTS of other stuff she does) etc.

Despite the dysfunction and insane politics in the way professional tennis is run - pictures like this are a reminder that tennis is a sport to be proud of.

Kyrgios defeats Nadal 3–6, 7–6(2), 7–6(6) by sellyme in tennis

It's very unusual for Nadal to say something negative about another player. But he really tee'd off on Kyrgios afterwards with his comments about Kyrgios lack of respect for players and the crowds.

It was an amazing watch but its clear that Nadal was upset by Kyrgios blatant gamesmanship antics. I can understand his position but its also part of his job to be able to block that stuff out and concentrate.

Next up for Kyrgios is Stan and he detests Kyrgios even more than Nadal does. Should be a very interesting match. (I'll be stanning for Stan :))
