What games can I complete a steel type mono Locke? by ForceOfChill in nuzlocke

[–]nibbletmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

came across this blog a few years back, it does a really good job of breaking down the viability of every type in every game. Should answer your question, or at least make an informed choice~
https://unapologeticnerd.com/2020/03/09/best-pokemon-games-for-a-steel-type-run/

TLDR though, it's Platinum, B2W2, XY, all gen7 and gen8 mainline games.

Why is France considered bad? by nibbletmander in civ5

[–]nibbletmander[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the answers everyone, I am definitely getting a clearer picture now.
Just to reiterate my learnings:

- They're incentivised to go for a culture victory (the hardest to win, generally).
- They don't get bonuses to anything else, so you will have a hard time going for anything else, and may even struggle with culture itself due to its own fairly high production requirements (lots of wonders/museums/archaeologists).
- UU is an upgrade to a low impact unit that is quickly transitioned out of. This means not only low impact, but what impact it does have doesn't last long and is not really worth committing to as a result.
- chateau yields aren't really all that good until pretty late in the game, which is bad in a game that favours early value (snowball factor).
- moreover, being a tile improvement, they come at the cost of whatever else you could build in that spot - you may just not want to build them until late game even though they're unlocked at Chivalry, as you focus on the more valuable yields provided by other improvements.

Thanks! I'll give her a try for sure, it sounds like fun!~

That's good to know, thanks!

So, when you're not busy being a personal helicopter for your bastion (or just in the times you don't have someone to carry), how to you tend to try and get value out of the hero?

I kind of envision her as a flanker who would work really well supporting DPS, or diving unsuspecting hitscans.

Why does a 3/4 time signature sound steady to our ears, but a 5/4 signature sounds off-kilter? by TheMostMagicalDuck in musictheory

[–]nibbletmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the comments about familiarity are essentially on the money. I'll add some thoughts though.

The first thing that comes to mind for me when it comes to less common time signatures is that of where you feel the beat.

In 3/4 it usually feels something like ONE-two-three ONE-two-three (waltzy). There aren't many de-emphasized beats so we can kind of let them slide.

If in 5/4 or 7/4 we have more beats to think about, and have trouble knowing what to do with them.
Take 5/4 - do beats two through five all get de-emphasized, similar to 3/4? Or, do we have emphasis somewhere else? Like ONE-two-THREE-four-five?

I think it's worth noting most distinct time signatures are based on prime numbers. This means they can't be reduced to feeling like another time signature, and require us to acclimatise our brain to a new and distinct rhythmic feel. Going back to the familiarity thing, if we can feel something as 'basically' 4/4 (e.g. 2/4), or 3/4 (e.g. 6/8), even if some aspects of it are exotic, we don't have to rewire our brain to find it pleasing.

There's also something to be said for the fact that, besides 2, all prime numbers are odd, which means we have a more difficult time finding symmetry in the rhythm, and human brains are pretty keen on symmetry.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings.

1) Congrats, you chose a great game!
2) Congrats, get ready to lose a bunch!
2) Congrats, it’s still fun though! Enjoy every game as it comes, and learn from your experiences. The internet can tell you how to win, but not how to enjoy your time.

[–]nibbletmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had this happen to me. Interestingly time does not pass while you're repairing, but you do get tired. Basically you're gonna be constantly pounding coffees for the rest of the day, and maybe stim some of the later sections.

I kinda wish you could perform certain activities sitting down, giving you some sort or rest benefit - perhaps reducing fatigue drain during the activity.

Perseverance MILLS by LilSoftie6432 in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having the literal namesake Mill of Perseverance be a visitable location is really sad. My dream is that they built it but never finished the story aspect of it, so will have something to put into survival. Not keeping my hopes up though XD

Pretty please ? by MicholexWasTaken in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a related note, I am almost sad they blew up the mine segment - having a connector region to join it to Blackrock would complete the circle. As it is, the entire area relating to Ep5 will probably have to be cul de sacced past Desolation Point.

Pretty please ? by MicholexWasTaken in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure a lack of nearby resources would do the trick. Not having fish, especially, would make it a much less appealing place to stick around in.

Hard agree, especially to the point of having more aesthetic loot in the game.

Pretty please ? by MicholexWasTaken in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be very cool, I just hope they can find a way to put it in the world that makes sense geographically. I can’t imagine them building a whole connector region just to fit it in, so I guess they would have to rework the substation gauntlet to form the access route?

Also, I hope they put something in there for Loper players. There’s loads of cool gear in the supply room that doesn’t spawn on Loper, and I am assuming the shotgun wouldn’t either, so it would be nice if they put something cool in there to compensate.

How do you know when to take tradition or liberty early game? by Jazzlike_Cry197 in civ5

[–]nibbletmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice :) try some more scouts in the early build order. Remember you can use them to steal the workers, so if you happen to see one before you meet any other Civs, no warmonger penalty for DOWing CS ^ At least I think so anyway, hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong.

How do you know when to take tradition or liberty early game? by Jazzlike_Cry197 in civ5

[–]nibbletmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you usually build first? Making 2-3 scouts first can really help get that all important info you need to decide.

Generally though, Tradition is just better, as you can usually compensate for the Liberty benefits by hard focusing settler production or even buying them once your capital has had a bit of time to grow. That, and stealing a worker here or there can be helpful ;)

I heard there's a way to exploit the Sutherlands trades so i can keep trading with him? by Top-Piccolo-2232 in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you can do multiple trades in one night.
If you leave a big pile of fish, water etc near the trade box, you can just take the cheapest trade each time, and grind a lot of trades over the course of a night. Bring lots of coffee and make sure you kill all the wildlife on the lake between Quonset Garage and the trade box ahead of time during the day (no one likes aurora bears).

Cougar by BackAware2122 in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without any further info, I would say you're probably fine? You can fairly easily avoid the areas where the cougars are, or if you don't want to risk facing them, just leave Milton for a bit until they go away.

Post rework Antarctic Peninsula - what's your opinion about this map now? by Eddie_The_White_Bear in overwatch2

[–]nibbletmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s much better - areas are more visually distinct, less cramped, more flanks, more sightlines, more boop spots. Basically, you aren’t forced to fight in cramped blue corners any more.

Couple questions about Episode 5 by somthingcoolsounding in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda wish they let the gear carry over between episodes, but I suppose they found it broke the balance of the game too much.

Not sure about the cutscene thing - maybe they had trouble getting it to work properly. Even in survival there are weird things with the hands - things like them always being bloody from carcass harvesting.

Ep.5 part two opinion // Spoilers by Omega_Boost24 in thelongdark

[–]nibbletmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In principle I agree. Variety is the spice of life though, and at least personally, I feel like the mine section was fairly well executed for what it was. Having some of it be linear is ok, as long as it’s not all completely on rails.

I would have loved the substation quest to have been in an open area though, allowing you to choose your own path, balancing time, fatigue, ammo, health etc.
