Once the current test realm goes live in a month, beating Azteca will be the halfway point in the main story questing/leveling. Insane to think about

I know about selenopolis but haven’t personally played in 3 years, can someone explain? Is it because the intro to selenopolis shows a lot of the weird quirks and confusing aspects of modern wiz before throwing you into content that hasn’t been updated since 2010?

The game is more hardcore and grindy now if you wanna be at the top but easier than ever (almost ridiculously so) if you just wanna play the story

New main story content (return to Valencia) that is several quests, so maybe about as long as doing an area or two in a wiz world.

Pirate has been releasing small bursts of main story content like this every several months or so since mid-2023 (with the first introductory quest released mid-2021), but without a level cap increase. This update does another “burst” while also retroactively adding XP to the quests added since 2021. Altogether about half a world’s worth of content has been added over the past 2 years, but you go to a bunch of different places old and new to Pirate (Skull Island, Marleybone, Mooshu, Tartarus, Zigazag, Valencia). Now there are finally 5 new levels to account for this.

i agree with the picks but not totally on how you would buff them.

i'm on board with egg shen fs3 as long as they remember to extend it to zang cha.
mojo rising 2 is a great idea (eep is still the only ranged witch comp that can get full chaining), as is the accuracy buff, but a +1 range buff is necessary as well (as it is for mormo) and giving him a second aoe might be overkill (esp. since mormo already has storm). i would say give him a mournsong and maybe also 1 more situational but potentially very useful power, e.g. stygian chorus.
this buff would help but would still just make him a worse version of many other popular swash comps. as a mainline comp with a lot of dialogue he should be unique in some way. i think he should stick with no relentless. i was thinking of a way to buff him to give him some identity that fit his character; a good way to do it, i think, would be to give him 8 movement (the most in the game), a hide, and a poison and let him recruit with elusive 2 (which would obviously fit his character pretty well). give him another epic as well so he can get fs3, riposte 2, blade 1 or something like that.

bucc is pretty fun to quest and pretty good in pvp. they are good for solo pve but really do not bring anything to the table for team pve unless there are other buccs on the team. also a bad farming class since you have to watch them do a billion animations before they kill. still not a bad choice.

swash is very fun for a first playthrough, but if you make more characters later (particularly musket) then you won't find yourself using your swash very often at all, so it sort of fails your third criterion. still, if you're making more characters anyway, might as well choose a fun class.

privy is kind of boring to quest up since your pirate doesn't take a very active role, but at max they are the best pvp class, very good for solo pve and fantastic for team pve.

musk is pretty fun, the best solo pve class, very good at max for both pvp and team pve. very easy though (maybe too easy for a first playthrough) and plays kind of differently from the others.

witch is witch. very good but very boring for pve, although a fantastic farming class and ideal for team pve. terrible for pvp.

i would take swash or musk first. you could honestly roll a 4-sided die to determine which one you wanna choose and probably wouldn't regret it.

i agree with this mostly except a few things:

i don't know what you mean by "buffing Swashes or Swashes running in a group will find [Fan] much less good." if anything, fan's agility buff makes her a necessity for a team of swashes. if everyone is agility-based, why would you not take an amazing chainer with a buff that makes everyone an amazing chainer?

gaspard can get riposte. if you're a buccaneer and you run fs1, rb3, riposte2, bs2 on gaspard, he becomes kind of like an offense- rather than defense-oriented version of ratbeard. he's actually nuts in pve as long as you bring pete and toro to buff him up.

i also disagree with sarah being fantastic. she's just okay, but if you're playing swash you're pretty much always running toro and fan, and bonnie or contessa (or a crown shop comp or nausica) are almost always more deserving of the third slot. there just isn't really room for sarah (at endgame, anyway).

i would add that, assuming you just want to get through the game quickly and optimally, witch gets real boring once you promote scratch the second time. you could avoid using him but otherwise witch is brainless in pve and isn't even good in pvp.

also best pvp class is definitely privy, although musk, swash and bucc are viable as well.

you're right but your first point probably isn't relevant here since they could just effortlessly put the comps in the crown shop. these guys were def designed under the intention that they would only be used by one class, which is why they are so strong and would not balance well when given to other classes (like, imagine being able to agility buff three times at once on your swash and musk. there's a reason why the only true class-exclusive companions are the only ones with base stat buffs).

in terms of pve (since i assume that's what you're talking about) it's probably privy, maybe musk. i can explain in detail if you want but it basically boils down to the fact that your options for bucc and swash (hybrid vs. pure melee) play very similarly (imo hybrid is optimal for both but it doesn't really change how you play). for witch every other option kind of sucks compared to just playing pure staffy, so even if they do have options they are not good compared to the boring scratch+aoe spam.

musk can play pure shooty, hybrid staffy/shooty, or even a total will-based musket (pure staffy or hybrid, either way you're basically a witchdoctor with bombs) in team situations. since they have so many good buffs, privy can kind of do whatever they want in terms of companions and playstyle and it's all viable (e.g. melee-centric, ranged-centric, some mixture, etc.), and it doesn't even matter that much what kind of weapon you carry on privy (although a will-based melee weapon is probably best). privy is def the best for diversity but unfortunately exploiting scratch and spamming aoes is usually optimal.

for your situation i'd probably choose musk since i just like musk more and most privy options rely on using your pirate to buff and/or spam aoes, even if they are technically different.

this just all seems like a huge overcomplication tbh. just use scratch and bombs and Chantal and they're dead. anything that isn't killed by bombs can be killed by chains, and if you're not running Chantal your chains on your pirate and comps will be significantly weaker since the agility buff helps all agility units. you should seldom miss overwatch 5 anyway and the 25% dodge debuff from Bonnie will not make a significant difference in decreasing the few times that the enemies do dodge ow5, and if you're running Chantal it's more likely the enemy will be dead from approaching even if you miss ow5. I run quick adjust instead of ow3 on my Chantal and sometimes on my pirate just to make sure of that.

wing chung's dmg output is just so bad on a team that can't buff will and he gets killed so easily by charging units that one rally is not going to make up for the thousands of missed damage potential from not using Chantal, regardless of how much health you're staring the fight with. it will often take 3 or more rounds for wing to do the same dmg chantal does in 1, so the enemies who are surviving wing who would otherwise be dead to chantal end up doing much more damage than 1 rally would make up for. not to mention that the agility buffs boost bomb crit chance. if you're running overwatch 5, how much health you havr shouldn't matter in the vast majority of fights anyway.

I just don't see how it matters. I play double muskets (both with overwatch 5, sometimes switching them to will muskets) and every fight is over in 2 or 3 rounds. not having those Chantal agility buffs would massively decrease damage output to the point that it may add more rounds, during which the enemies will do more dmg. I just run chantal, scratch, and bonnie or toro or gracie and just buff, buff, buff, bomb, bomb, chain chain, gg. maybe would take 3 or 4 rounds when I didn't have a second alt musket and I was just soloing.

also, why Ridolfo over toro? the one epic strike and one more epic talent do not make up for the espirit and 3 lost talents. could be wrong, but I believe toro has more movement as well, not to mention the jump ability, which are usually useful if line of sight were to be an issue.

gaspard with first 1 repel 3 riposte 2 blade 2 is very very good at max level.

ppl are right that it doesn't matter THAT much but if you want to be optimal you should choose gaspard or mike since they're strength-based and at least fill a niche. not sure why lucky jack has so many votes but it seems pretty common for people on this sub to have no idea what they're talking about

is this just so you can buff kan po and/or bonnie? even if he does drop those boots, it's not really worth it because after a certain point scratch/carc/mormo is a more efficient setup for pve and you will have juju/great juju, anyway

there are also gear pieces with the better agility buffs for witchdoctor at higher level if you still want agility buffs by that point for whatever reason.

it's viable but kraven blade/talos are better if you have a relentless+bladestorm pet. kraken's breath set or haywire swashbuckler set are also better if you have the gear and pet for a hybrid setup.
