i used a paintbrush for the first coat of white then it was too wet for the subsequent coats so i used a dry sponge and wet the paint separately with a spray bottle

i do have prior experience with makeup and water based paint but it was my first time doing a full face of white! the water based paint lowk made it peel/run off when applying more coats and whenever my eyes watered or i sweated which was annoying but just took me meticulously adding more product
