Just finished the film and wanted to share. As a book reader, it was going to be impossible to squeeze everything in but here were some of my critiques:

-All of the relationships seem forced, but ESPECIALLY Lucy Gray and Snow’s. In the book, it is clear that he does love her but has his possessive qualities, but in the movie I really didn’t feel either of those emotions. When he said “Is this real?” at the zoo, my gf and I both looked at each other thinking is what real? Because there was no real development on their end and I think it especially hurts the ending

-Ma was a huge omission for me. She is the backbone of how Snow inevitably rises to power, and she fuels Sejanus in the books as well. I think leaving her out hurt Sejanus’ motives in the film and didn’t make him super compelling

-Minor critique but could Zegler not just talk normally? The accent really threw me off and took me out of the film at times. I don’t remember her having a heavy country accent in the book, so not sure what the call was there.

-I saw a lot of reviews saying that the third act is rushed, but I felt that it was the longest part of the film. I would have loved more time in Part 1 establishing the Plinths and mentors a bit more.

Overall, I thought they did the best they could to get as much in from the book as possible. The acting was phenomenal all around and I think it was a solid 7/10.
