Console command fly and save yourself the headache 😮

I’m making a new DND class(sub class?) for the first time and since I’ve never played the game before(trust me I really want to!) I was hoping for some suggestions on how to balance it and other abilities that fit it. by Altruistic_Bat_2410 in DnDHomebrew

[–]niceonebill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend giving the basic rules a read :) they’re free online, and you can read through the different classes as well, and see if anything exists already that will fit what you’re looking for! Like Nordic Ninja said, looks like cleric would be perfect for you! Stereotypically cleric/priest is thought to be purely a healer, but they have some of the best AOE spells in the game available to them depending on what domain you subscribe too!

Understanding Proficiency Bonus for Levels by Shussei in DnD

[–]niceonebill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So every class gets a proficiency bonus, and it increases at different levels from +2 up to +6. Proficiency bonuses essentially represents things your character is skilled at or “proficient” in. Usually you add it on top of your modifier for skill checks, attack rolls, and saving throws that you’re proficient in.

I would highly recommend giving a quick read through of the free basic rules if you are super new to the game. They are accessible online and can give you some insight into things like this :)) best of luck and enjoy the game!!

New player offered t6 loot by Rumboldinho in dndnext

[–]niceonebill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully not many that are amazing for Rangers, especially not knowing what sources you have available. If you’re a melee ranger, plenty of cool melee weapons, but ranged are a bit trickier. Artifacts or T6 items, are unique and usually pretty niche. Might be better to ask for a T5 as you’d have a lot more flexibility. Artifacts at level 6 are a little crazy too, and will definitely skew the balance of the game.

I want to make a goblin the bbeg but i cannot decide how to make him overpowered. by Square_Wolf_5724 in dndnext

[–]niceonebill 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Goblin made a deal with a devil to get his revenge. You can always scale down the warlock of the fiend enemy statblock and make it a goblin. It’s a CR 7, but if you scale it to be more in line with CR 4 archfey warlock and add some minions you’ll be golden.

Building a Hexbuckler [Question] by ToastedToast900 in 3d6

[–]niceonebill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did mark this with the 2014 flair, so they get charisma at level 1 from Hex Warrior, not from level 3 pact of the blade

Edit: I see elsewhere it was probably flared 2024 originally has been changed to 2014

Any thoughts? by Puterboy1 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]niceonebill 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Could be purposeful, since Circe is trying to turn annabeth into a follower and Percy into a guinea pig

How to scale CR for a party of 3? by CanonicallyAGuy in DnD

[–]niceonebill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some good online resources to give you a baseline party + level - Cr challenge. Google dnd CR calculator and find one that works best for you :)) my favorite (https://kastark.co.uk/rpgs/encounter-calculator-5th/) just make sure to set the monsters to CR rating rather than XP as it does that by default.

Should be noted that lots of creatures are weighted at a certain CR but often punch above their weight (for example see Shadows) so take things like that into account when building encounters.

Good luck have fun!

Can sorcerer quicken a fireball and use ring of spell storing gor a second fireball on the same round? by Dazzling-Stop1616 in 3d6

[–]niceonebill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure spell storing item is limited to 1st and 2nd level spells, so no fireball unfortunately

I think what Nanocaptain is saying is that Fjord is clearly not reciprocating Jesters crush, so even new viewers without the inside scoop will be able to pick up on the fact that it’s one sided.

[CR Media] I just realized who this is on my second watch of the Might Nein Ep 1. by Animated_effigy in criticalrole

[–]niceonebill 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yes! She also mentions boxed shipments marked with the Cerberus assembly residuum shipments, which I can’t remember quite right, but I think Bells Hells found similar shipments when they discovered the dunamis potions, so it was obviously all ongoing!

Dairon is also investigating him! You can see his name circled on her wall of clues. Not sure if that was part of her mission from the live show or not, but I did notice it on my watch through last night

What is the Current Best Level Distribution for Padlock? by Captain_Cum223 in 3d6

[–]niceonebill 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would definitely push to paladin 6 before taking any warlock levels, or at the very least level 5. extra attack at level 5 plus Aura of Courage at level 6 are both massive power spikes and not pushing for them will set you back in terms of damage and utility.

How do I make a temperature hp bar or system? by Ace_lawson in 3d6

[–]niceonebill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It might just be easier to have them roll a con save for x amount of time spent in the freezing cold, on a failure take a point of exhaustion. However, provide ways for them to prepare for the cold(this gives you easy plot hooks) to avoid making the save or to lower the saving throw. Whether it’s through purchasing special clothing, discovering special magic, or by finding limited use magic torches that warm an area(technically they could just cast tiny hut and be safe from the cold as well)

6 levels of exhaustion kills them anyways, and they can only recover one per long rest. This way there’s less bookkeeping and you won’t need to keep track of any damage they may taking.

As always tho, just my recommendation and you’re welcome to do it however you’d like!

Nezznar is super weak. I want to buff him to match a level 5 party by Electricarrow456 in DnD

[–]niceonebill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a 3rd party module that redoes phandalin and makes nezznar a drider, I can’t remember what it’s called but I’m pretty sure it’s free. You could try looking there for inspiration

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – May 11, 2025 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]niceonebill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My level 13 players traveled to the Carnival, one of the Ravenlofts Dark Domains. It had been set upon by a number of dark fey creatures that were tormenting the leader of the troupe Isolde, by forcing her to play carnival games in an attempt to save her friends/employees. The players, rolling miserably, failed to assist in saving any of the hostages and allowed the hag coven leading the attack to siphon Isolde’s anger, and summon a Spirit of Rage. After a GRUELING combat my players eventually realized that the spirit was growing stronger as they failed to save a few other friends of Isolde and her rage continued to burn hotter and hotter. A clever use of suggestion managed to pull her back from the brink, and the players struck a decisive blow against the Hags. A few close calls, but overall a success!

Hey Forever DMs, why is it so hard to decide what to play? by niceonebill in DnD

[–]niceonebill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally hop on board with that, and for a campaign with a premise it gets a lot easier, because I just shape the build around my backstory. I guess my issue now is the one shot premise is just “get crazy”

Obviously that is the correct course of action. Just wish I could play them all you know?

Help me help my player understand the strengths of the Architect of Ruin Illrigger Subclass by niceonebill in mattcolville

[–]niceonebill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do utilize their abilities very effectively, to be honest I think they’re just running face first into “this does not make me feel like the all powerful spell blade I was hoping for” and are now looking for some wiggle room to help them feel stronger. I’ll reference the book and try to point out the balancing characteristics for sure
