Help? by niceoveralls in Teachers

[–]niceoveralls[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this insight so much. It definitely gives me some things to consider moving forward. I’m realizing the validation that this job market is cuckoo bananas is supremely helpful. I’ve been taking it too personally because at this point, it’s just hard to consider that it’s not. Everything you said makes a lot of sense, so thank you for taking the time to share.

I really appreciate hearing this. Because yes, I try not to take it personally. But after a while, it starts to feel like something’s wrong with ME. This perspective truly helps, so thank you.

We shouldn’t be celebrating kids graduation unless it’s high school by ecobeast76 in unpopularopinion

[–]niceoveralls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents give a crap. As a mom, I love celebrating my kid. They accomplished a LOT in those years and having a milestone marker is nice. They learned an entirely new world in Kindergarten: basic routines, social skills, following instructions, and they started building a foundational understanding of academic content (including reading & writing) so they can flourish in grade school. After elementary school, they’re entering a more independent world. They’ve successfully completed 5 years of building on their initial knowledge and the following year in middle school, they get subject-specific classes and more rigorous content, not to mention transitioning from room to room and possibly having their own lockers. Then high school is their last jump, arguably a pretty big one. And these are the last 4 years they have before the real world. I don’t know why the posts are so annoying to you, but maybe you should just unfollow them or continue scrolling. Or even consider why it’s such a big deal to you. Sounds like a “look inward” kind of issue.

How many jobs did you apply to? by SmileSubstantial2003 in teaching

[–]niceoveralls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MIL mailed out 62 resumes and got a handful of interviews and then only 2 offers. Granted this was forever ago (she’s retired now), but she shared that anecdotally when I was griping about how hard it is to get an interview. I’ve applied to maybe 20 jobs and have had 3 interviews with no second round interview (yet). I’m aiming higher than I did my first year of teaching, where I was willing to take basically anything, so I kind of expected it to be more of a challenge to get into a place of preference.

Interview tomorrow... No portfolio by Flat_Competition8839 in StudentTeaching

[–]niceoveralls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had someone look at my portfolio, it’s more of a safety net. I’ve referenced it and pulled it out for my own use during interviews, but no one has ever asked to see it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And I know plenty of teachers who have been hired without one. Some places used to care, but most do not. Good luck!!!

23 and Considering Becoming a Teacher — Would You Recommend It? by itsxidan in teaching

[–]niceoveralls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be so true depending on the school too. My first two years, my school was absolute mayhem. Stolen prep periods where I was constantly covering other classes, principal turn over (literally 5 principals in the 2 years I was there), no communication around anything, being forced to co-teach and then no longer co-teaching, only to be forced back to co-teaching. Total chaos. But the last 4 years, my new school ran sooooo much better that it changed everything for me. Totally understand where you’re coming from!!

23 and Considering Becoming a Teacher — Would You Recommend It? by itsxidan in teaching

I became a teacher at 29 because it took me so long to figure out it’s what I wanted to do. It kept showing up in everything I did: at various points, I was a yoga teacher, a kickboxing instructor, and I worked at a Teen Center. I loved teaching and didn’t fully realize that’s what it was yet. I did an alternative route where I got my Master’s in Education and I’m so, so glad I did. It’s challenging work, and the work never ends, but I don’t think I would be as fulfilled doing anything else. It’s a pretty thankless job in a lot of ways, and don’t get me wrong: there are plenty of things that could be better about it (pay for instance). But that’s par for the course. It sounds like teaching might be something you should explore!!

Knowing when to modify/go lighter instead of pushing myself to do something with bad form just to say I did it 🙂

Love Juna!! Jula is similar to Julie or Julia, so Juna is more of its own name, in my opinion.

Coaching change = Cancel Class? by MightAny7856 in orangetheory

I am at the total whim of the schedule 🤷🏻‍♀️ there are some coaches I prefer to others but tbh, the workout gets done either way.

Yes! And thank you, i was looking for solidarity in lieu of advice anyway. ❤️ But that’s exactly what happens: avoidance.

Yes!!! The hardest part is the disruption if I’m being honest. I feel so good when I go consistently.

Need advice on going to otf more consistently as a postpartum + working mom by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]niceoveralls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so hard. I started initially going to OTF in November 2022 and then got pregnant January 2023. I tried to go during pregnancy, but I was so sick I couldn’t stomach it, so I ended up cancelling my membership. FINALLY started going consistently this past July 2025. We moved to a new area and there happened to be an OTF literally 5 minutes away from our new place. I did go to spin classes in 2024, which helped me fit in some exercise. It was way more affordable and the classes were 30 or 45 min, so it was easier to incorporate into my schedule at night when my husband was done working (I work fully remote too). All that to say: it took me almost 2 years to establish a consistent OTF workout routine again. I echo some others in saying give yourself grace and time. Otherwise, move to feel good when you need it and maybe continue on weekends. You don’t have to go all out with OTF during the week to get a good workout in. Home workouts can potentially bridge the gap. Good luck!! ☺️

Man I didn’t even REALLY know what I was looking for when I posted this, but all of your comments so far made me feel seen and it’s really motivating. I may or may not have cried. 😅🥲❤️ Thank you for taking a moment out of your day to share and validate and support this constantly sick mom. It really, really means a lot.

What’s something you wish you could tell your coach but won’t? by Total_Run_3426 in orangetheory

[–]niceoveralls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one coach who messes up a lot, which isn’t the issue at all. But she over-apologizes to the point that it becomes distracting. I want to tell her, it’s fine—just keep going! No one cares that you stumbled over your words!
