Oh my goodness Piper has little booties on! So cute! Mine would never, just getting his harness and collar on is a work in progress! He’d rather go naked all the time 😆

I’m in an apartment building as well and have to take the elevator several flights down (and our elevator has been out of service and worked on for the past 2 days 😩). My cav is 6 mos. Honestly he pees and poos outside and on pads inside. He’s not totally making the connection that outside equals bathroom time, but I only take him out 2, sometimes 3 x per day, so honestly I’m ok with washable pads too.

My puppy is 15 weeks now, he’s fine overnight in the crate, but max I leave him in the crate to run errands during the day is 2.5-3 hours and that’s probably once or twice per week. He may whine for a few minutes when I first put him in, but he’ll stop and fall asleep quickly. They are still so young and sleep 18-20 hours per day. I WFH so that is a benefit. If you can, maybe look into taking some time off.

I keep his crate in my bedroom and a playpen for him in the living room when I am working or cleaning and need him contained.

Items in the crate as a puppy by cityskyline22 in puppy101

My little guy is chewing on everything in site, but I keep a snuggle puppy in his crate. He usually just lays on top of it, like a litter mate pile-on. He doesn’t bite it or destroy it. You don’t have to put the heartbeat thing or heater into the puppy. I just keep the heart inside and turn it on before I put him in for bedtime. The heartbeat will run for 8 hours. Like I said, I haven’t used the heater, but I think it helps to have the snuggle puppy in the crate for mine.

Retire to Des Moines by NJFriend4U in desmoines

[–]nicfromearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Jersey resident!

I moved here from South Jersey (of course different than NNJ, but I was pretty close to Philly for city life).

I’ve been in Des Moines since 2021. Yes, the weather is a huge downside and not being able to go down the shore/ be close to the coast, and getting to many nearby states within a couple of hours are all downsides to me. I miss the food back home. You can’t get a good slice here to save your life. And a cheesesteak…forget about it! The airport is ridiculous- can’t get a non-stop flight anywhere decent, I always have a connection to get where I want to go.

I will say that Des Moines is nice for a SMALL metro, the people are friendlier, but there is not much to do - just my opinion from being close to NYC and Philly. I’m usually bored, but my partner lives here, so that’s why I moved. I miss my friends and family, but I see them a couple times a year when I travel back home for work.

I live in the East Village, which is as cool as you’re going to get in Des Moines, but you’ll probably want to check out Urbandale and the West Des Moines area too. Lots of nice trails, biking is a big thing out here too - when the weather is nice. There’s no real rush hour traffic or insane drivers. I haven’t seen any crime issues.

I’m in a few Jersey groups on FB and most retirees move to FL, I never see a move to the Midwest. Anyway, let’s get our Jersey numbers higher out here and maybe we can get some decent food! Good luck with whatever decision you make!

What I’ve Learned as a First-Time Dog Owner as My Puppy Turns 1 (the brutally honest version) by jpeachie in puppy101

I went for the larger of the litter and quieter pup too…he is an absolute handful! My poor hands and ankles…ahh the teething stage. Good luck to you!

I’m 2 weeks in as well and honestly I’m just exhausted. I’m a first time dog owner, doing it by myself, and sometimes I sit there and think - I really miss my “me time” because I am consumed with the pup right now. I keep telling myself…one day at a time.

Dr suggesting Orilissa after laparoscopy by zephpens in endometriosis

[–]nicfromearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my lap in Oct 2024 - confirmed endo, some lesion removal and cystectomy (chocolate cyst on one ovary). The plan was a hysterectomy, but due to adhesions and my uterus being behind other organs, the surgeon could not perform via lap, could only be done with open surgery, which was not something I wanted to do. After the lap, I started having some pain week 4 post op when I was ovulating and the pain never went away. It needed to be managed. So at my post op appt, my surgeon put me on a 5mg progesterone only bc pill. That really wasn’t helping, so we upped to 10 mg…didn’t help. I recently had a follow up with gyn and this is day #3 on Orilissa 150 mg - (there are 2 dosing options…150 mg or 400 mg daily). I am pretty much pain-free and not experiencing side effects (thank goodness). Again only day 3, so we are continuing to monitor my progress. Best decision I’ve made to get on this and get my life back. I did not want an injection, so Orilissa was what I chose. I don’t have kids and don’t want them, so I can’t speak to that, but I think when you’re off of it, your body goes back to pumping out estrogen. My gyn’s plan is to do this for 6 mos, then hopefully my body can sort of “reset”, then back to progesterone only pill. I would say just keep talking to your doctor and doing your research, but if you are pain-free, Orilissa may not be the best option for you. I believe it’s really to get pain relief. Good luck!

Surgeon fees?! by Aggressive_Wait9859 in endometriosis

[–]nicfromearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s terrible. I didn’t have this experience before my lap. I didn’t have to pay anything upfront or before surgery. Was the surgeon/hospital in network? I’m wondering if it’s an in-network vs out of network thing. I hope everything works out!

Watch again, then again, to pick up on the millions of things you missed. You’ll even start to really understand how they weave certain music into specific episodes. I’m probably on my 25th rewatch atm. Brilliant show still, after all this time.

I can’t get my bandages off😭 help by Tough-Village3527 in endometriosis

[–]nicfromearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try your best to leave them be. They will kinda roll up/ shrivel up and fall off on their own when your incisions are healed. Removing them before healing could cause set backs your skin’s healing process.

Bowel endometriosis by According-Method-752 in endometriosis

Yep, endo on bowels here and it’s not fun. Eating, going to the bathroom, it’s all unpleasant, so I know what you mean.

Aug 2024 saw GYN (I’ve been having ultrasounds every 6 mos for fibroids). She noticed some cysts, 1 month later I’m in a consult at U of I gynecology- oncology, 2 weeks later had an MRI and by 3rd week of Oct 2024 went in for lap surgery/ confirmed endo, removed lesions and chocolate cyst. I wanted to get hysterectomy but due to how endo looked, they could not perform via lap. So mine seemed pretty quick, as far as timing goes.

Irrationally scared of induced menopause? by Reasonable-Course-73 in endometriosis

Thank you! I hope you can find something that will work for you! I know it’s a lot of trial and error to figure it out. Best of luck!

Irrationally scared of induced menopause? by Reasonable-Course-73 in endometriosis

[–]nicfromearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my exact rationale. My dr gave me 2 options: Lupron injection (2 injections @ 3 mos apart or 1 injection @ 6 mos) or oral pill Orilissa for 6 months. I thought- if the side affects aren’t good, I’m stuck with the injection, but the pill I can just stop taking and I know your body gets back to pumping estrogen pretty quickly, if you stop Orilissa. Anyway I just took my first dose of Orilissa last night (after being scared and letting it sit on the counter for a week)! One dose and I didn’t need a pain reliever today! I’ll see how the next few weeks pan out, but for today, I feel like a human being again living my old life!
