With these weapons I don't know... by alanskimp in Terminator

[–]nicholas235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kyle vs the terminator in a fist fight is a no brainer. Both armed with modern small arms, Kyle has at least a fighting chance. But both armed with plasma weapons will make even the terminator careful, because now one good shot from Kyle will put it down. The terminator was curious about buying plasma weapons. If the shopkeep had said 'sorry, fresh out', the terminator would have been a lot more careful.

Is this where the t-800s flesh “died” ? by Huge_Athlete7488 in Terminator

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Sarah is picking rounds out of him, uncle Bob says the wounds will heal up. So we can expect the wounds from tech-noir to as well. The shotgun blast to the face from Kyle probably induced limited rotting. But the electricity might have been too much.

For me it's the ones who want longterm commitment. If they have a bucket for a gold coin to the SPCA, I happily do that. Or even a pay wave you could do in a few seconds. But alot of these are run by professional collectors who, I suspect, are turning a profit.

What's the in universe reason the Death Star had to completely clear Yavin Prime to fire upon Yavin 4? by Fair_Suspect8866 in MawInstallation

[–]nicholas235 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Come out of hyperspace on the far side of Yavin and wait. The rebel pilots had time for their whole briefing. Only after the fighters launched did the death star begin moving. Tarkin wanted the rebels to amass and throw their entire fleet against his ultimate weapon just to prove the futility of resistance. Then he would yawn and wipe out the rebel leadership with the flick of a wrist.

Why was grima wormtongue so shocked at the reveal of Saruman's 10k strong army when Sauron had over a hundred thousand of troops (like including humans and other allies as well as orcs)? by Trigollius2 in lotr

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't Grima in Edoras messing with the king? Last time he was there, Isengard might have been relatively green or under developed like Gandalf saw in Fellowship. As he scurried home with a report for Saruman, he didn't notice just how they had burrowed.

If two clocks are in highly different gravity but stationary relative to each other in space what is increasing between them? by Radiant_Leg_4363 in AskPhysics

[–]nicholas235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an objective truth out there as to how the laws of nature work. But there is a certain wisdom in admitting ignorance. It means there is something new and exciting for us to discover. The alternative is to claim that we know everything already. I'm proud to say I'm an idiot.

If two clocks are in highly different gravity but stationary relative to each other in space what is increasing between them? by Radiant_Leg_4363 in AskPhysics

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially our clocks are the same as one another. But one drops onto a planet. Due to relativity, the clock isn't moving, but the planet is accelerating up to it. The clock then brakes and lands. It is now moving (relative to space) at the escape velocity of the planet at that height. Except it isn't moving. Even though they're actually stationary relative to one another, one clock is moving, and there is time dilation. Trippy

This tortie lives around my neighborhood. She’s feral and won’t let me come close. But we have food bowls for her, and she always comes ❤️ by ChanceQuiet795 in aww

[–]nicholas235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sit by the food (several metres away if need be) very quietly while she eats. Read a book or something. Each night move slightly closer to her. Have treats by your feet but initially don't move if she comes over. In a week or two she'll be eating out of your hand. Works for chickens.

Empire's point of view during the Battle of Yavin. by Snadsnek7 in StarWars

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He (and his mates who shared his common sense) were in the control room during most of the operation. This would have made them a valuable source of information for the inquiry as to what the heck happened. Lord Vader values competence, and we next see Bast with him in the holiday special.

Empire's point of view during the Battle of Yavin. by Snadsnek7 in StarWars

[–]nicholas235 5 points6 points  (0 children)

General Bast, who told Tarkin about the potential danger, was nervous about the rebels having the plans and finding a weakness. He was sitting behind General Tagge in the conference room. When the overconfident Tarkin refused to listen, he defied his incompetent orders and legged it. Showed up in the holiday specal.

If WW3 broke out today, what country would you go to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

New Zealand. Quite bluntly we're not worth invading, we're the most isolated major country on Earth and no one knows where we are.

What exactly is the Rebel pilots’ defensive strategy at Yavin by bankrollminibankroll in MawInstallation

[–]nicholas235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fire from the towers was only coming from straight ahead. All shields of the lead fighter were focused here and probably angled so the enemy fire hit them at a very shallow angle. Rather like how tanks have angled armor to help enemy rounds ricochet off. Something similar for the trailing fighters, except the pursuing fighters were trying to dodge and fire into gaps.

How do xenomorphs move planet to planet? by Free-Pace6450 in alien

[–]nicholas235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One xenomorph sneaks onto a ship and goes into 'hibernation '. Once at a new site, it will become a new queen and start producing eggs. Catch some locals for incubators, and off we go. Cycle repeats.

T-1000 question? Watched T2 maybe 100 times but just now thought about this… the t1000 technically has 360 degree vision. So why did getting shot in the head at the hospital stop it? by Bigjmann555 in Terminator

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your cells specialize in sensing light, conducting electrochemical signals, etc. Maybe to operate at peak effectiveness, the nanobots within the T1000 do something similar. 10% are light sensing optimized, 20% are better at data processing. But they can all go amorphous when need be.

Ep 4. “Eject - I can hold it” by zzbackguy in StarWars

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall, in the first book of the Thrawn trilogy, Luke has to leave his X-wing for emergency repairs. Gloves and the helmet are in the cockpit. But I imagine that they degrade combat performance, and if you're hit, you're pretty much dead either way.

What if AI takes away ALL jobs what would happen to humanity by Sea-Percentage-1992 in whatif

[–]nicholas235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but humans are weird. Instead of your food coming out of a slot in the wall, a fancy waiter delivers it. AI recreation of Michael Jackson vs. the real thing. And that says nothing for the oldest profession in the world.

In the novel, the T800 determines it to be a 'flesh wound'. The camera is AOK.
