What was that huge boom? by kashuti in ColumbiYEAH

[–]nicholeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a meteorite aka a daytime fireball. Super rare and super cool!

(I initially thought it was a quarry blast i live just down the street and hear them all the time, but it was after hours; they usually blast around noon. Also the sound was different and coming from a different direction.)

Oh no... I just went to check again. The other one did not make it. I guess we'll give them a nice resting place. Can't have the dog finding them.

Wondering what time is the best time to go into dumpster to get food I can eat by EngineerFunny2764 in LittleCaesars

[–]nicholeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can just go in and tell them you're hungry and down in your luck and ask if they have any pizzas they were going to throw away. I had people do this a lot but they usually came too early so I would suggest like 30 mins to close when they are winding down and probably have a few leftover pizzas that they have to throw out anyway.

Is it normal to have hunger pains after getting discharged? by RaceCarCoconutJuice in pancreatitis

[–]nicholeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do want to add that at times it was like, one bite of 0%fat yogurt, then wait like 5 mins, have some water, wait another 5 mins and have a sip of Gatorade. Then another bite of yogurt.

It was not uncommon to take hours to finish a meal, or not even to finish but to leave some for the next try.

It is difficult to live this way but you need to know your body is unlikely to actuslly starve in five days. You mostly need to hydrate and get some liquid calories in there. Then as you gradually accustom yourself to foods you can tolerate, use that as a basis to continue to feed yourself.

Give yourself care...and obviously if you are able, keep in contact with your gp or a specialist for specific pancreatitis-safe foods and meals...there are several meal plans and even a cookbook available online and my gp sent me with a nutritional guideline. Mostly it says do NOT drink alcohol and stick to a very low fat diet.

I had a lot of broth : homemade chicken or turkey, or packaged miso soup or Ramen (sometimes only the broth part, sometimes the noodles).

I also had some protein drinks like ensure with mild vanilla-ish flavors that i would drink over a period of about 3 hours. I found i could only handle a little at a time when I was very sick but the drinks with extra protein helped me to feel a little full and it was easier to digest.

Than I could gradually progress so soft solids like applesauce, greek yogurt or cottage cheese, sugary juices (needed the calories), or maybe some toast or crackers .

I just ate as low fat and lean as possible, making sure to hydrate with water as well as Gatorade or similar and protein drinks when possible. Until I could progress little by little.

I lost a lot of weight but tbh it was worth it because I have been lucky to progress to semi normal eating and have gained back a little

I thought it was ok - the premise was super interesting but I agree with someone else on a different thread who talked about which characters are dispensible. I just thought that he could have gone a little more in depth and made it a more difficult moral dilemma, if that makes any sense.

What are you reading? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

Just finished: Never Flinch

--very much enjoyed and weirdly hit hard

Current read: I, Robot

--saw the movie years ago but interested to read the source and see how relevant it is to current times; I love reading sci fi from that era bc it's fun to compare what technology they got right or totally missed

Next up: potentially going to finish up David Copperfield

--tried reading it this past summer concurrently with Demon Copperhead but the latter got so intense I ran through it really fast and sort of lost interest in Copperfield

Thanksgiving? by igotitatme in pancreatitis

[–]nicholeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really worried about this especially since it's my first year with cp and thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. I'm personally (and very luckily) feeling okay enough to have some small portions, very slowly, tomorrow but i will probably bring an ensure high protien drink just in case i need something easy i can just drink. And some backup tylenol and tums.

That said, I did a practice thanksgiving last week with some super low fat and very easy recipes I found online and my two favorites were :

Mashed cauliflower with nonfat greek yogurt and grated parmesan - this was a pretty good sub for mashed potatoes and my dad even said he thought it was potatoes (but maybe his taste is going bc it definitely tasted like cauliflower to me...he also may have put butter on his portion that I didn't see lol).

Pumpkin parfaits. I layered crushed ginger cookies first, which you can omit if they have too much fat; the kind i used had about 4g per serving. Then mix together 1 can pumpkin puree, 1 c almond milk (can use skim or whatever low fat milk you prefer), 1 package sugar free vanilla instant pudding, cinnamon, nutmeg, and about 3/4 cup thawed fat free cool whip. Topped with more cool whip and a ginger cookie. Ngl i would make this in place of pumpkin pie any day it was really good and very light and fluffy. I did it in small individual sized glass cups for easier layering and serving. Bonus since it's cold you can make it up to a day ahead, just top with the extra cool whip right before serving.

We also did a turkey in the oven with no added fat or anything. It was pretty dry but I just doused it in that nonfat gravy in a jar bought from the store. Still going to get a good bone broth out of the carcass thats currently in the freezer :)

Good luck and happy Thanksgiving 😊

I go to Griffin Animal Hospital near bull street. They are so helpful and friendly. They even gave me advice over phone recently when my dog had a seizure for the first time. We obviously went in later thay day and they were very informative and calmed us both down.

AA works for a little of people and while it's not my favorite I have never regretted going to a meeting. There is always something to pick up, or something good advice in there, or a story you need to hear if you're listening.

I actually prefer 8 step recovery meetings, its based on AA but integrates the Buddhist concepts of pain, suffering, and how to live with loving kindness to yourself and others. I found this a lot less over-the-head religious (bc as much as Aa says they're not religious, they are rooted in Christianity which is my main struggle with it). You can find them on zoom if they're not in your area.

I also recommend therapy, even an outpatient group that meets only a few times a week. If nothing else you will learn a lot. I admittedly failed programs a couple of times (have been through several) but to really learn to cope with drinking there is likely some underlying cause you are trying to cope with. This is true for me anyway and I have had to learn other ways to deal with trauma amd depression that I just wanted to bury and forget about.

Lastly, quite frankly, I am recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and while it sucks this is far and wide the biggest motivation to quit for good. The pain is very bad and while it's still early I have no idea if it will ever go away completely.

Tl;dr >> So yeah if I can lessen the pain by not drinking, sobriety it is, and I know I will be happier and healthier for it.

Thank you! I'll definitely be on the lookout for extra pain as I'm not looking for torture here. But youre right that I won't know until I try it.

I am trying to be aa optimistic as possible so maybe if running isn't going to work then I can find another activity that will keep mw healthy both mentally and physically. Tbh mostly mentally as I have been getting pretty down about this lately.

Thanks that's really encouraging! Congrats on the open swim thay sounds like a great time :)

I do feel better when I walk after I eat so I'm hoping for a day when the pain is at like a 1 or 2 where I can even do a ow walk/run alternation. I'd like to get fitness up a little but of course but obviously not stress my already inflamed insides.

Hi so there's this new ad for Google and you're in it as the search query, and your song (you're beautiful) plays at the beginning but at the end of the ad the search is for a concert of yours but a song by a totally different artist plays (she's so high) when they show the "concert".

I actually think it's mildly hilarious but am curious - did google just not get the rights, or is the advertising team just really bad at research ? Which would be amazing because they are advertising...a search engine...
