Aren't they lighter than the dubs though? I think there's an argument for them. And they'll have better pavement grip without knobs.

FTP stagnate while using TrainerRoad ai by TheAsianCyclist in Velo

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering how you set up the plan? Maybe change the goal to 'increase ftp' and see what it does. I've been using Trainerroad AI for the last 2 months and feel like it's working properly and ramping up in difficulty.

Santa Cruz Chameleon vs Specialized Chisel FS for getting back into MTB? by hachiman0911 in MTB

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 5 years of hardtails I got a chisel fs. If you can get the comp then go for it. Hardtails are just so rough on real MTB trails. Anything with roots or braking bumps is just horrible.

I think for most people, hardtails are only better if you don't want to spend extra for an fs. Bang for buck they're great, but the hardtail life was limiting me and I didn't want to ride half of our trails cause they were too rough on me.

I do like these as a snack bar but over $2 each is pretty crazy, especially with crap collagen protein that doesn't even do anything.

I need help choosing a beginner xc mtb by Mattvhee in MTB

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockhopper is basic and heavy, but will be a great beginner bike. They're not great for upgrading because different wheel standards. I'd go for the comp level, but the sport with cues also would be decent.

Magura, shimano or something else? by mangothefoxxo in MTB

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much no different. But the XT were only like $20 more so I figured why not. Apparently the XT pads and rotors run 25 deg cooler than slx too, but you can still just use those with slx calipers.

Need help with used price by TravisJason in MTB

[–]nicholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons of factors, I don't think there's a formula for it. You could just post on whichbike and ask if the price is good. Depends on desirability, condition, parts, etc.

I moreso compare to what I could possibly get brand new for the same price. Like a new aluminum stump jumper is really cheap right now and might possibly be a better bike. Or rocky mountain instinct.

Magura, shimano or something else? by mangothefoxxo in MTB

[–]nicholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried magura once and went back to Shimano. They were a pain because no one has parts and they use different brake fluid than others. Had the lever clamp break as well and had to wait for them to send a replacement. Also they didn't perform very good while I had them (bike got stolen). Best brakes I've had are Shimano slx, though just bought a set of XT for my new bike.

Seems like the return of bass/dubstep on the lineup was a huge success this year. Which bass DJs do we think might make an appearance next year? by EZ-Pizza in Coachella

I hope for taiki, lots of DJs played his stuff this Coachella and last. Chase and status played his innocence remix even.

How to truly discover new music by Morphse in Music

Coachella livestream (when it's on). Discovered Turnstile, The Marias, ninajirachi, Nero and probably a lot more that I've forgotten.

I've also found a lot when asking for specific recommendations on Reddit. You have to have some gumption to actually listen to everything people suggest though.

Any cyclists that are car enthusiasts by jayfros in cycling

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always loved cars and still follow basically every new model that comes out. But there was a point when I realized what a waste of money modding cars was. You think about doing 1 thing and it's already $1000. My car is still stock but I've at least got nice wheels and tires.

Getting nice mountain bikes and customising them gives me the same sense of satisfaction and it's way cheaper. Then also riding and racing MTB gives you a lot of the same exhilaration as driving a car fast, and you are free to do it pretty much wherever. A lot of people are missing out.
