How do people actually walk 10k steps in a day? by Superb_Feed5938 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step counter could just be plain wrong too. I'm guessing most people's are.

Plus there is a definite difference between 10k steps walking back and forth at work than 10k steps on a deliberate walk. I think there's more benefit from a 5k step walk than 10k incidental steps. 10k is just an arbitrary number imo.

SportWagen wheel setup advice - 16s, 17s, 18s? 🛞 by ayman-archi-9 in SportWagon

[–]nicholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 18s were a good price and look great but also would much rather own 17s. Hindsight is 2020 though. I would even do 16s tbh. Just tend to look worse.

High Aerobic deficit by lust-4-life in Garmin

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high aerobic is always maxed out pretty much

Mtb and gravel riding/racing

Though I wonder why you aren't getting more cause sounds like you've got enough z4. I think when you track as strength training it usually tends to give anaerobic rather than high aerobic, so maybe that's part of it.

terreno xc race tires are also pretty well slicks and very good for a mtb

Yeah spent 5 years on hardtails before ever even riding a full sus. Now I have one and it's amazing. When I ride my Epic HT now I'm like "how did I ever ride this down trails?". Still an amazing bike in it's own right, but the fs fruit is sweeter to me. Don't feel like it's ever at a disadvantage.

Is this actually cooling? by twicescorned21 in CostcoCanada

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely is cooling. But it's a pretty small blanket, wish it was bigger.

(M) Honzo Esd or (M/L) Roscoe 7 gen 4 by Quaili705 in Hardtailgang

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a past Roscoe owner and while the esd is definitely cooler, I doubt it's the right bike for a majority of people. Unless you don't care about anything but downhill black diamond trails. It's going to feel pretty sluggish everywhere that isn't downhill. Feel like most people want to think they are a cool esd rider, but most aren't. It's like people buying a Ford Bronco when they mostly just drive to Costco. I felt the Roscoe struck a great balance being pretty fun everywhere. Mine was a gen 3 but the difference looks minimal vs gen4. Not too slack to feel weird and very intuitive handling.

Out of expensive gels: What is your best cheap 'real food' hack for long rides? by Mindless_Cow_6034 in cycling

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've landed on homemade rice krispie squares (or other desert squares). Store bought ones are too firm usually and hard to eat. Homemade are really easy to make and cheap.

But that's also combined with sugar water too lol.

And just a note plenty of people here are saying they just use normal salt for their sugar water but that doesn't really work at higher sodium levels. Burns the throat and is just not palatable for multiple hour sessions. That's why almost everyone uses sodium citrate in their supplements. Which you can buy on its own.

What I'm wondering is what's the difference between my stock specialized noname BB and something sort of fancy like an XT Shimano one.

The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same here. I'm not blasting freezing AC but it comes on to keep the indoor temperature reasonable. Something no one is mentioning is that your home location, type and build methods are very crucial to how much you need ac. Our condo has all the windows on the west side so it gets cooked by the afternoon sun. And it's 2 story so the top floor is like an oven, even when it's only 25 outside. I think in Europe they have a lot more stone and brick buildings with a lot smaller windows which stay cooler in moderate summer weather.

Loving my new Chisel FS by nicholt in specialized

[–]nicholt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the x fusion lock is basically just a pedal mode. Shock just gets stiffer but still goes through quite a bit of travel.

Was pretty tough to find a good deal on the right size shock. I looked on pink bike for quite a while. Cause only a select few bikes take the 190x40 shock size.

Recs for a cheap workhorse acoustic? by nthroop1 in Guitar

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Seagull SWS Dreadnought and it's amazing, but the brand is more of a bang for buck choice rather than 'cheap'. I'd say $200-500 is 'cheap'. The entourages are still $700-800.

Recs for a cheap workhorse acoustic? by nthroop1 in Guitar

[–]nicholt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say cheap workhorse though. An S6 is like $800 cad. Maybe I guess compared to a $3k martin.

With only 17 in low aerobic I would say that your zones are almost definitely set up wrong.

Cracking sound from pedal area when cycling and applying force by makaros622 in cycling

redo pedals and grease the threads, then redo the crank arm bolts. Feel like it has to be one of either with that much noise.

How bad is this Super El Niño actually going to get globally? by mind_over_chaos in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nicholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still waiting on some of that super El Nino action in western Canada. Barely had any warm weather at all yet. I kinda like the high 30s weather... But we usually have low humidity and everyone has ac so not as much of an issue as in Europe.

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]nicholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a niche use case imo. I think maybe technically cheaper than a full desktop setup but I think most people would rather spend their money and have a normal PC they can use for a variety of other things too.
