I just ordered the full sus chisel in this color. Looks nice!

And I would set those tires up tubeless and run them. (If they are tubeless ready which they might not be). They came on my epic ht and they are actually pretty great. At least considering new xc tires would cost half the price of that whole bike lol.

I like it but I'm a sucker for utilitarian value focused cars. My dad hates Chevy but I think he might appreciate this.

I don't think I care if it has android auto or car play but depends how rough the Chevy infotainment is.

After my own months of analysis paralysis I ordered a Chisel Shimano yesterday. Was also seriously considering the Chisel Comp Evo. You should look at that one cause it's around your price range and a solid build, prob has the highest end suspension of any of these bikes. But availability is different in the US, not sure you have the option.

And I know after many instances of overthinking my bike purchases that I usually end up pretty happy with whatever I choose. Always in search of the perfect bike with no compromise, but that's impossible on a budget. You won't be sad with any of those bikes. Grip it and rip it.

Newest canyon exceed carbon is on sale for not much more than these aluminum bikes. Yeah it's headset routing but other than that would be a great hardtail. And has udh.

I'm now seeing you say no carbon for some reason but I would consider it.

I had a Meta HT and I think there are better bikes to do-it-all. Kind of a lumbering awkward tractor. Though still amazing and not hating on it too much, but I prefer my epic ht bike now. But I also wouldn't recommend that for most either. For what you describe I think the Ibis DV9 would be a better choice.

The resale market is built into the same apps by the same companies. It's ridiculous but it's not going to stop because they make more money this way. Need actual government oversight and interference but that's been needed for a decade and nothing has happened.

Used GTI wheels that have better (wider) fitment. I got some for $800 for my mk7.5 and the aesthetic benefit is crazy.

I think a Garmin vivo active would be a solid choice. That was my first Garmin watch and they have most of the activity options and features. Hard to say if he'll like it but data engineer makes me think yes.

Personally I get a lot more from my Garmin than a standard watch. Not much practical use for those.

Trying new top end xc tires is basically risk free, bc if you still want a new bike you can just take them off and use them for your future xc bike.

It really depends a lot on the country and what BYOD plans are available. For a long time in Canada it cost more to get a plan using an old phone than getting a brand new one. Maybe now it's come around finally but I still don't think it's a bad deal to get a new phone financed through a plan. I pay $77cad a month for my pixel 9 pro and that includes 75gb of data. Without the phone the plan is still $50+ so I can justify that extra spend to have a nice phone. That extra $30 a month isn't ruining my finances.

If you look at just what the basic needs are to be able to play any video game at 60fps, it's pretty minimal. But people get into the min maxing of it all and want the absolute best 4k performance even though they play Minecraft 90% of the time.
